Different take. I'm enjoying what Trevor's doing with the show. If he diverges to much from the old he'll lose the existing audience. Jon did the same thing as he started to settle in after Craig. Every episode it seems like Trevor takes it a little more into his own and I'm happy with his pace

Actually the question of Cruz's status is settled and has been for decades. Ted Cruz, like Obama, has a US passport; only US citizens can get US passports (I know this from I-9 documentation rules) There are only two ways a person can be a citizen, via birth (i.e. natural born) or naturalization. Cruz was never naturalized therefore he is a citizen via birthright (natural born citizenship). According to the Immigration And Nationality Act of 1952: If a child is born outside the US the child is a citizen if 1. The mother was a U.S. citizen at the time of the person's birth and2. The mother was physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for a continuous period of one year prior to the person's birth. Cruz's mother was a US citizen at the time of Ted's birth and she lived in the US for at least 1 continuous year prior birthing Ted. Again, Ted is a natural born citizen. He still a whacko, but he is a natural born US citizen and is constitutionally eligible to be President if elected.
You are not the ignorant one. The constitution simply says "a natural born Citizen" (or one at the time the constitution is ratified). Courts have not decided on what that means, so anyone can speculate on that, and some people have intrepreted it as meaning born in the US. It more likely means simply a citizen at birth.

We could not have a functioning government without the congress continually determining the meaning of phrases in the constitution. If there is a question of the constitutionality of something congress did, the Supreme Court has the final word. That's called judicial review.
The first congress passed the Naturalization Act of 1790. An act of congress does not have the same standing as the Constitution. Later congresses can change any law made by an earlier congress. The Naturalization Act of 1952 is the current law. Period.

Try reading the original post again. The 1952 Act clearly states "1. The mother was a U.S. citizen at the time of the person's birth." No, it's not enough for the mother to have been in the U.S. for one year, she also has to be a citizen of the U.S.
***** The Constitution isn't set in stone. The Founding Fathers knew that in order for our country to best serve its people it had to have a government that evolves. Hence, why we have amendments.

I think it was part of their genius that the Constitution is so vague. They knew that times would change and beliefs would change, and in order to ensure that our law system modeled the people's beliefs- even as those beliefs changed- they left a a lot of it up to interpretation.
