Time to talk text and open minds or my analysis of VA-11 Hall-A's dystopia and its effect on its characters.
To put it bluntly, VA-11 Hall-A is a unique game. It's an exceedingly well thought out look at a cyberpunk dystopia that actually adheres well to the genre's conventions, specifically with who it focuses on. The regular people on the fringes of society. All the characters you meet, especially Jill, are wrapped up in their own problems in spite of how horrible a world they inhabit. None of them, except perhaps Alma, can really do much to change the state of the world. Instead, everyone has to keep living their lives. Keep paying rent. Keep coming into work.
VA-11 Hall-A is about everyday life in a dystopia. It's mundane and it treats its world as mundane. In many ways this is more disturbing than the more traditional dystopian stories since everyone just accepts the world and even one of the major events in the city is little more than a footnote, at least until it directly affects one of the bar's regulars. Ultimately VA-11 Hall-A is about good people in a horrifying world and what one must do to keep moving forward.

It's a unique experience and one of my favorite games of the past five years (if making an 11 minute video doesn't tell you enough).

I didn't even noticed it was 11 min. Great video.

That was very insightful. With me being a newbie to the Cyberpunk Genre, I've focused too much on the story of the characters and never really thought of the implications.
Thank you for doubling my enjoyment of this wonderful game!

Glad you enjoyed the game and the video! Trust me when I say there was a lot of sitting around thinking before I actually got this to be anything coherent. Welcome to the genre, it's a doosey!

Got this video in my recommended feed because i've been binging any valhalla stuff i can get my hands on after discovering the game, and gotta say, really good job ;d. One of the many selling points Valhalla's had for me is exactly that, that it somehow managed to make a dystopia _cozy_ :D.
It's a game about a miserable girl living a miserable life in a miserable world that, somehow, ends up more hopeful, cheerful and optimistic than a fuckton of media that's not supposed to be miserable in the first place.
