Over many centuries of ocean voyaging and cold nights, our polynesian ancestors developed body/muscle mass by 'shivering', which shocks the muscle into growing. Combined with a healthy diet of seafood with Taro, Uwhi and Kumara, you create a super human - no sugar, no flour. Apparently the pre-european Hawaiians have the largest recorded BMI (body mass index) of any human species on the planet.

Polynesians are just built different. You'd know if you've been around them. Pound for pound, on average, they're the strongest race out there - easy. I live in Australia. Played AFL growing up. Every other game there'd be a Poly on the other team and you'd dread it. We're all skinny teenage rakes while this dudes built like a brick shithouse and has a moustache - terrifying! Run through people like they aren't there. Dense bones, heavy muscle (and fat if I'm honest), but strong and fast as shit in sprints. I think people here are a bit intimidated and don't want to admit it. I've got some Maori blood but other than broadness, a bit of height and slightly darker skin you wouldn't know. Wish I had more of the genetics. Respect to all the Polys! 🇦🇺

Never did a max squat but did rep sets of 425 for sets of 10 5 times per workout. I met and trained with Samoan guys who were hitting my max bench on incline for rep sets. Straight embarrassed me. They would warm up with 315, and go right to 4, 5, and 6 plates. And these were not guys who trained all that much either. These guys were all under 6'4" but they were so fucking powerful naturally. Something which should be taken into account is that contact sports, especially rugby, have taken the place of tribal warfare in Pacific Islander culture, at least for Maoris (New Zealand) and Samoans. You can't go and fight another tribe and collect heads, but you can go and play another team and collect tries. It may not be a huge influence, but it is an influence.

A traditional diet high in possibly the best source or protein ever to exist, intercine tribal warfare to provide a reason to grow slabs of strong muscle, and ready (but not easy) access to that excellent source of dietary protein, can have a noticeable hereditary effect over a few generations.

Honestly rugby is like our main sport, even us Tongan girls participate in it for fun but size wise we are a little more hefty and built differently from others so I understand this. It’s nice to see Pacific Islanders out there pursuing what they love, you might not know them personally but the pride and joy is shared everywhere.

I'm an islander, a Melanesian, our Polynesian and Micronesian brothers and sisters are all built different. I strongly believe that all these came from our diet and the location we're geographically located. Our ancestors were great navigators, we have taro, sweet potatoes and other leafy foods as part of our diet before the colonizers came, you come to my country in PNG and see a small bloke and you think you can run over him 😂.... bruh think again. Most people outside know a little or none about the rest of the islanders except for Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Hawaii etc. There's New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Palau, Torres Strait (Australia), Irian Jaya (part of Indonesia) Guam, and list goes on.

Not overly tall, just densely muscular and powerfully athletic. I played a lot of rugby over the years and thankfully never had to play against too many as they are a hell of a handful. Even their wives look bigger than most I played against.

As an islander we have a high intake of protein and carbs in our diets and this has been the way since our ancestors. The food and genetics provide us with bodies that were made for survival as well as bodies to till the ground/earth for our livelihood and to bear the life in the islands, which was/is no easy fete. Even with western influence with the retail and tourism industry there have been some economic advances but a lot of people still live by the traditional way of life.
I 100% agree with no steroids or artificial adages to gain advantage, generally speaking. Growing up I played rugby with my brothers and boy cousins at our family get togethers and took a liking to contact sports early on and that made me one fierce player in the mixed league teams playing centre forward and wing.
I also was age champion for track and field numerous times known for my main event which was sprinting and then advanced to compete on multiple levels and also won ribbons and medallions for other sports over the years all without training. And truth is, I’m one of so many Polynesians like this.
Derived from voyagers, survivors, farmers and warriors this was the way of life before being introduced to sports. so yes. It’s genetics.

Many Pacific Islanders have strayed from the traditional diet of root crops and fresh fish and meat and are more prone to eating more industrialised foods, however they still retain their very solid frame despite the notion that their body is built on traditional foods. If anything the western diet; which is nearly impossible to have a deficit of calories (which also means a deficit of growth) has actually augmented and guaranteed the production of our hard coded genetics.

People from island countries are typically very strong. I believe the reason behind this is the force of gravity against them. Since areas of lower elevation have more air above them, there is more gravity pushing down on them. This is why in places like Asia, where there are very mountains, the people aren't as large. Any body of land close to the water is going to feel a lot more gravity. This is also why Samoans are so outnumbered in Rugby, and Icelandic people are outnumbered in strongman competitions.

Europeans win strongman competitions because of many supplements, facilities, training and organized diet for the competition....nothing to do with physical strength.
try fighting a central/north Asian one on one....you will have an idea who is stronger

Generally I would say nordic/scandanavian people are the strongest people but we all have opinions and I certainly wouldn't say anyone in Asia... North, South, East or west are strong at all. I have spent large amounts of time throughout Asia as my wife is Indonesian so it's easy to travel and I'm not even strong but I can out lift any of them in the gyms. They like to test me out being a big guy and I'm no professional, I don't take supplements or even go to the gym very often here in England.

Islanders and Maori lads make superb physical specimens, a history of fish diets, with vegetables grown in volcanic enriched soil has done wonders for them, when Europeans first came to NZ, they said of the Maori that they were the most physically impressive race they'd ever seen, HOWEVER there is a reason all island and Maori teams dont do as well as they should, becasue they lack certain tact, strategy and overall cohesion the white man brings to the table, mixed islander/Maori blood with european "pioneers" blood and you get scary results like the all blacks and sonny bill Williams, most of the top players have mixed blood.

Polynesians are best at contact sports, not because they eat taro, but because they harvest taro. It’s some of the hardest work I ever attempted. And the labor is constant. All Rugby players have powerful upper bodies. But Polynesians also have strong lower bodies as well. College girlfriend was half Japanese and half Hawaiian and played college basketball. She looked like a typical frail beauty, but had the thickest, strongest ankles I ever saw. Whether Jonah Lomu or Portia Woodman or the Tuilagi brothers, all are blessed with insanely powerful legs, as well as blazing speed. Portia’s dad was an All-Black, which gives her an unfair advantage.

Unfortunately the tradition of bulk servings of over processed and cheaply available foods in America, has made its way to American Samoan who come under America’s protection..
Samoa, (formerly Western Samoa), are independent but are greatly influenced by the New Zealand and English lifestyles, but the easy access to takeaway, and unhealthy foods, are influencing the whole of Polynesia.
Historically, the heavy demands of the day to day Samoan lifestyle meant, the men would naturally grow tall, and muscular.
Samoan men do the daily cooking which required harvesting of dry trees for the fire to heat the rocks for cooking. Harvesting of certain foods may require the climbing of trees, which the men have done since childhood. Fishing, hunting and gathering, are all performed by the men.
Western men hit the gym when they reach college age or even in their 20s…
The islanders day to day chores, is their gym…and they’ve been training their whole life..😂😂😂😂LOL

Unfortunately the influence of bad eating habits and over processed foods of the western countries has a foot hold in most of the Polynesian islands., including New Zeal. Fast food places like KFC, and McDonalds to name a couple, have taken away a lot of the natural foods, and gathering habits of the Polynesians, that have for many years been considered the reason for their size, bulk, and fitness, making them ideal for contact sports such as Rugby Union, Rugby League, NRL, NFL..etc.
