This past 13 August, the Open, Simultaneous and Obligatory Primary Elections (PASO) were held, a kind of election where all political forces are obliged to participate in order to elect or ratify their candidates.
And you know what? Their results have been a real bombshell. Argentines have said enough is enough. Javier Milei, the libertarian outsider who came to Argentine politics in 2019 has won, against all odds, this particular election. And not only that, Peronism was relegated to third place. One way or another, Argentina is heading towards a historic change.
But what explains the Peronist debacle, why Alberto Fernández's government became so unpopular, what this political tsunami could mean for Argentina, and will Javier Milei become the new president of the republic? In this video we tell you all the details.

Wrong. Both the left and the right have serious problems. Pretending that one is 'good' and the other 'bad' is a pinnacle of deliberate ignorance.
People who sincerely want to change things for the better don't continue playing the 'left vs right' game. They want to take the very best parts of the right and the left and put them together into something that's genuinely better than either side is by itself. People who don't want to combine the best of both worlds are clueless bigots.

Seems like the world is becoming tired of their country’s career politicians and wants an outsider.

    • @RichardHarlos
      @RichardHarlos Před 8 měsíci

It does seem that way. However, what the world seems not to understand is that government isn't actually necessary for a society to run well. And this mindset is what keeps politics buried in corruption. Until people are tired of government overall, they will continue to hope that some outsider will fix things. It isn't possible. The world's politics are woven together. No country is operating completely alone. Is decisions are, in large measure, made with the effects that those decisions have upon other nations. And all of these separate nations are tied together in their common reliance upon central banks for economic stability.
No outsider is going to be able to withstand the world's economic pressures. And if ever someone came along who persisted in trying, that person would almost certainly die in some freak accident like a plane crash. That, in a nutshell, is how the world works... how politics works... how central banks work. So, with all that in mind, the conclusion is inarguable: there will be no substantial political reform that happens with the people's well-being being the primary reason for change. Everything revolves around the economy, and the international politics that are necessary to keep the economy running _for the benefit of those in power._
It's a sad conclusion to entertain, but as far as I can tell, there isn't another conclusion with more evidence and history to support it.

One of the thing that contributes a lot to J.G. Milei rise it's the fact that the JxC Coalition (Spearheaded by Bullrich) is seen as soft and too keen to go along with the Peronist-Kirchnerists
    Some examples:
    - Tax on Financial Rent approved by JxC but promoted by Sergio Massa (Current spearhead of the P-K Coalition) => Results: destruction of the stock market
    - Rent Law (A lot of Libertarian Economists warned that this will damage the housing market) promoted by Massa and JxC (Why did they do it? Bullrich admitted on TV that it was so the P-K Coalition will vote for JxC's future projects in exchange for passing this law) => Results: the housing market is a hellhole, paying rent is now best described as p a i n
    - The IMF bailout => To prevent default, JxC voted in favor of the IMF bailout despite it pretty much giving a lifeline to the P-K Coalition, full of deficit and just kicking the can down the road for the next government (Who will have to fix x100 the problems that we currently have)
That and more, a lot of former voters from JxC flocked to J.G. Milei
(Of course this is just one side of the rise of J.G. Milei, there are topics that are even longer such as the young voters, the economic catastrophe, corruption and so on)

When it comes to minimum wage, it's the way politicians attempt to paper over the prior failures of government interference. 1. Ruin the economy with spending and currency debasement, 2. Raise minimum wage to appease the populace. It's permanent job security as long as the populace remains ignorant to the fact that it solves nothing and is just kicking the can. The politicians created the mess in the first place. All a corporation will do is pass on the higher cost to do business in the goods and services, and quickly the new wage increase is compensated for with a higher cost of living. And when we look at the obverse, we see how it is now illegal to pay people less to do a job that has less value than the minimum, so people who may be on the fringes and who may have some benefit are now prohibited from entering the market and developing their skills to earn more. It is a needless destruction of immediate opportunity under a fallacious political and emotional rationalization. If a country can, it will implement automation to replace those individuals it has lost due to the governments myopic policies. If it can't, it will just stagnate even more, and in both cases, people who are the poorest are going to be the hardest off because wealth is being siphoned away from the market into the hands of political elites. They will continue to promise more and deliver less, and you have to ultimately extricate yourself from their controls to survive.

It's not difficult nor baffling to see why Peronism has so much power in my country. If you think about it rationally, these people are taking an entire social class hostage, all while forcing the neighboring one to drop down in order to grow its number. That, of course is the low/poor class, which now encompass over 50 % of the country's population. They've got an iron grip on them by using the state as the only source of income that they can get reliably, and it doubles during election seasons of course. That's why Milei's speech hits so hard on us. It calls the government a as it is through its behavior: a caste. Hopefully after October 22, which is the definitive election day, he manages to win with over 45% of the votes so he wins in the first run, with no ballotage (a 2nd round where the 2 most voted candidates face off), and this could be the last of Peronism.

Milei’s main proposal (trying to shrink and rein over a gigantic state and that its inherent corruption) is one solution but not the solution (as it would be to find effective ways to diversify the economy in a globalized world where everyone is trying to outcompete others, with complex technologies that make it quite harder to begin on a leveled ground) and could (if successful, something extremely rare by itself) merely mean mowing the lawn only for the grass to grow again, beginning the cycle once more. Such change of paradigm would need a constitutional change (to limit the state’s expenditures and clarify where and how the state's money can be used) but also would need to solve how the provinces work on such regard (as each one repeats the national model, and worse as many do it with the sole assistance of the central government).
Nevertheless, the problem with such analysis is that they rarely envision or solve how to transition from a state whose expenditure also keeps a huge chunk of the population with the livable basics to one where such people can stand up by themselves. You can’t doom millions to starvation (lest you react like a dictatorship, empowering those with guns and the active political supporters, and begin a terror campaign that would make those very millions trying to escape country). And any realistic transition would need a very long term plan, something that no single candidate can grant unless there is a multiparty accord to make such scheme viable (at least on paper). When you have many generations of people who never did formal jobs (only menial ones) it’s hard to break the cycle.
Nevertheless Argentina is one of the few countries whose natural resources make it workable: it’s one of the few countries of the world that can easily feed itself without importing and it would only need 5% of its territory to do so (while other countries could not feed themselves not even if they could use even the last fertile inch of their territory, and we are talking of very populated countries) what in a unstable world for many reasons (whether wars, climate, etc.) can’t be discounted. You can renounce tp many luxuries and products but people will always need food. Yet such privileged trait can be a bane, a Dutch Disease bane, too.

He said if he had a mob come after him, that he's got security. However people can stand up for themselves pretty quickly when people are put under real pressure much easier now than 100 years ago without mass production. Also it spirals up, once productivity goes up that attracts investment which creates jobs which in turn creates more productivity. Eventually the jobs get to a point where even the easiest jobs get paid something liveable.
Having them leave the country wouldn't be a bad thing as it'd remove the drain on the system.

All the so called libertarian / neo-liberal experiments have always depended on the privatisation of huge public assets for short term gain and always end up in another round of socialisation, rebuilding and high taxation. In the case of Argentina the meltdown would be even more spectacular because there is nothing there to begin with. I'd bet good money that if the nutjob gets eected the markets will crush the economy and it'll need yet another bailout. What argentina needs is a non-corrupt government that focuses on social issues and security... after 5-6 years of that, we shall see. Something that I'd like to add as an argentinian is the greatest loser of this primaries, Horacio Larreta. While in the video it was glossed over that he lost to Patricia Bullrich for the domination to be the candidate of Juntos por el Cambio (understandably so), it has quite the tragic story for him. You see, ever since the start of his second term in the position of governor of the capital, when this term finishes and by law he can not run for a third one, he has aimed to get the position of the president of the country. Now, to get to this goal he has spent copious ammount of money from a virtually limitness wallet to arm his campaign. This was all that held his campaign together, he has recruited most of his allies and kept them on his side by throwing money at them, and making very expensive projects to help on his public opinion. When the election day was just around the corner, it was generalized in the country that Larreta would win the PASO. I guess we were blind sided of just how much we are done with this political instability as it was predicted that Millei would get around 15% to 18% of the votes. But that is not all, when the day finally came, Bullrich, with not even a tenth of what Larreta spent on his campaign, won the nomination to be the candidate kicking his butt. Oh man was I shocked of the results, but I can not say that I didn't enjoy watching his face on the stage rethinking his life choises.

The US is far away from being the richest or enlightened society. They have the largest PBI, nothing more. 80% of US science and technology is made by foreign professionals, immigrants or temporary. Most of the US population despise STEM and the country is known for mocking intelligence. While having some of the best universities it is a niche. Russians in average for example are much more educated and mannered than the US. A higher percentage of college graduates, more in STEM, basic education has classic literature, music, ballet. They go to classic music and ballet events as US people go to sports and movies.
