Ron Paul repented and came back to the Republican Party. On domestic and foriegn issues as well as trade Rand Pauls endorses Trumpism one of Trumps biggest supporters. Thanks for the clarification. I was confused by Zelenskyy's visit to Argentina, and Milei's warm reception, until your report made me realize I had been mislead by the media. Sadly, it's typical for reporters to take one or two issues, and use it as a lazy political barometer to pigeonhole any politician. The in depth analysis helped my comprehension, considerably.
It’s understandable, the average person doesn’t get much far in understanding politics from the left-right (pro unraine-pro russia, pro palestine-pro israel, pro choice-pro life etc.) divide, so most news outlets classify things into liberal left or conservative (despotic) right, which is a shame because traditional conservatism is pretty lame to me, and to label these kinds of policies as conservative or just right wing is indirectly preventing this other type of right wing ideas from spreading. I would consider myself a liberal, but It’d be way better imo for the main politic divide to be liberalism-libertarianism instead of liberalism-conservatism, because I think it would create competition in the political system and force politicians to be more proactive in their roles, as well as bring new interesting political debate to the mainstream instead of the same stale stuff

Milei is an actual libertarian. Not the misplaced caricature of libertarianism you see in America. He is not a conservative or a reactionary, his social views are very progressive. On economics he is not protectionist either.
This is the very first time in history that a true blue libertarian has gotten to the top of a country. This is actually history.

Argentina undergoing Polish-style shock therapy is the only option available to get out of its economic decline created by the Peronist politicians for the past eight decades.
Sadly there aren't any wealthy nations around Argentina, Chile is struggling for years even though it has more wealth. I do wish Argentinians take accountability of their actions and pay taxes so that things can start to move somewhere.
They tried it in the 80/90 with the Cavallo plan and it failed misserably.

Milei, on the contrary, is very decided to have zero fiscal deficit. If that was accomplished no crisis would be possible.

I think Milei has a Bachelor of Economics degree and at least two Masters degrees relating to Macro Economics and Finances and was a Lecturer of same for some time. This fact is often overlooked by the mass media - preferring to focus on some of his non-academic activities.... strange they would do such a thing! 🙂

PS: Milei said he is against abortion as it is against his own moral ideals, but he also said that if the referendum showed that the people was in favor of abortion he would respect it, as freedom (of choice) is also a core moral ideal of his.

@@mrcookies409 Honestly it’s always surprised me, South America should be home to a number of economic juggernauts. Many are some of the most resource rich nations on the planet with relatively large populations, very few regional conflicts and healthy demographics
I do understand the difficulty of building infrastructure and the long term damage caused by the Spanish and Portuguese Empires but at the same time the fact Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela don’t all have GDPs double or even triple their size comes down almost entirely to political discourse. And it’s a shame because having large economies on the continent like that would boost the trade and economy of the smaller nations as well through proximity and shared infrastructure investment.
The world would be a better place with a wealthy developed South America, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for positive changes in that direction over the next few decades

It reminds me of the economic reforms of Leszek Balcerowicz when Poland was slowly starting to clean up after soviets and he also went with shock therapy which resulted in one hell of economic miracle that probably saved my country future and made him the most hated man in the country for 2 generations saying that "whose fault it is? Ofc it's Balcerowicz" was prelevant idiom 2 decades after he left parliament. Ppl just don't want to wait with their judgements until long term changes materialise.
yeah reforms take long time to make effect. In Czechoslovakia too first 8 years were difficult but then the growth was much bigger. So these kind of reforms have real positive effect in about 10 years which is why it is so hard to do any changes because it is much more than mandate of government and the they do not get any credit for that because people remember from that only the hard times and then give all credit to the new government which just spends and makes debt

I think it was either the previous or current Czech president who I remember saying that the worst enemy of democratic state is democratic elections because that's when politicians will rush to drive the country into debt on thoughtless public spending and start promising peaches on pines in order to get elected. I don’t think Milei is far right. He is far right from the Argentinian left, but the reality is that he is speaking the truth on where the country stands. He also speaks the truth of what many Latinos would like to express to their leaders. He also speaks economic sense. All of these things are only fiction in far right governments. Milei is a classic liberal.
He only uses some voters from far right, conservatism because without them he could loose.
Indeed, his formation is libertarian but he know that Argentina is not ready for libertarian ideas. So he is using classic liberal formula to reduce the state. He is gonna change Argentina in a positive way, but only if Argentinians have patience.
This was a very biased analysis. First of all, there has been many examples in history that economic libertarian ideals can go hand in hand with far-right authoritarianism. Pinochet was backed by libertarians in Chile and implemented libertarian economic ideas designed by Chicago economics school graduates. Frederyck Hayek, the famous libertarian economist and philosopher, visited Chile and complimented Pinochet's government for his economic policies while hundreds of political opponents were being tortured in Chilean prisons. Ludwig von Misses, another libertarian economist, supported the fascist government of his native Austria. Bolsonaro, who was grossly misrepresented in this video, had a libertarian economist as his Finance Minister and, unlike the video said, they never talked about protectionism or buying local products. In the commercial side, Milei wants to break commercial relations with China because they are "communists". China is the second largest trade partner of Argentina. So it really seems that Milei puts his politics well above his love for free trade. The first trade partner of Argentina is Brazil and this is possible due to the Mercosur, which is a free trade agreement between the countries in the South of South America and he wants to kill it. The video simply took his words about the Mercosur as the truth and didn't bother to check if they are correct or not. Well, the are not. Mercosur is a free trade agreement that benefits all economic agents located in any of the member-countries. There is simply no basis to argue that it benefits only crony businessmen. Mercosur has just finished negotiating a free deal with the European Union and, guess what, Milei is against it and doesn't want to sign the deal. On the proper authoritarian side, Milei proposed a law that provides that protests can take place only if they are authorized by the government and if they are done without this authorization, the organizers can be sent to jail or 6 years. And last but not least, he is against abortion, which definitely not very libertarian at all. Do you think that he is all that faithful to his libertarian ideals? Do you think that any politician with libertarian ideal remain faithful to his ideals once in power?

The Libertarian position on social issues is to keep your nose out of other people's business. So on abortion it's the parents choice and no one should interfere with that choice. So on that subject he is anti-Libertarian.

This is my reaction and interpretation after listening to the new president of Argentina on the world economic forum over there in Switzerland there.
After listening to him several times.
I began to like all of the points that he was making and as I was liking the points that he was making with his facts I was very much reminded of an old book that I had read.
The book I refer to is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.
For his speech embodied many of the same elements that were embodied in John galt's speech from that book.
The new president from Argentina also introduced a few other elements from that book from the speech that was given by the character in the book Atlas Shruggedd, known as Francisco and his speech on money.
His speech though shorter than Atlas shrugs material was most enlightening and entertaining to listen to in the real world as opposed to the unreal real world presented in Atlas Shrugged.
On the subject of books there is one book that I highly recommend that every person on the planet would be well advised to read.
It is not a book of fiction, it is a book of fact.
The book's title is natural law the books author is Lysander Spooner.
I have found this book to be the best little book I have ever read on law of any kind. A three chapter 17 Page book. If you read it you will understand where mankind has gone wrong by moving away from natural law and moving toward authoritarian man-made law.
After considering the information in these books I decided I would take up the challenge of rewriting one of the most special laws contained within the Bill of Rights that I would rewrite the Second Amendment.
I call it Second Amendment 2.1

The fact that the NRA the National Rifle Association changed its View to a more radical View of the second amendment in the year 1970. If you listen to the recent video on CZcams concerning the latest Omnibus gun control act worked on, they bring up every mass shooting event that ever occurred in history. Except for ONE "mass shooting" got no mention. What is this "mass shooting" that the government doesn't even want to talk about. What is this event that in 1970 rocked the boat of the National Rifle Association, and caused every second amendment organization to literally "freak out" in the year 1970.
On May 4th 1970 members of the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of Kent State University demonstrators killing four, and wounding nine Kent State students. The impact of the shooting was dramatic. The event triggered a national wide student strike, that forced hundreds of colleges and universities to close.
I find it sadly ironic that the demonstrators were demonstrating their displeasure over the war in Vietnam in general and the bombing in Cambodia in particular, carried out by President Nixon.

As for the Second Amendment as currently written, I have some serious issues with it. It is poorly written, it is so poorly written and confusing that it must be reinterpreted by the Supreme Court. It does not explicitly say anything about self-defense. This has inspired me to write my new and improved version of the Second Amendment. I have named my new version.
Second Amendment 2.1
In order to maintain the blessings of liberty and freedom throughout the land.The pre-existing natural right of the individual to self-defense, shall always be upheld and protected. The right to manufacture, keep and bear arms ammunition, and parts and accessories for arms, will not be infringed or impeded. By any law or mandate, by either the states, or the federal government. A free market being necessary for a free people.The right to manufacture arms for sale, including, ammunition and accessories, for arms, will not be infringed or impeded. By any law or mandate. By the federal government, or the state's governments. This includes both carrying for an individual, or carrying for a company, for trade or sale in another state. Or any city or town, within a state. For any other moral reason. Uninfringed or impeded by law or mandate.
And there you have it my new and improved version of the Second Amendment 2.1 and for further Clarity, let me explain the term "pre-existing natural right of self-defense". The Second Amendment to the Constitution was adopted December 15th 1791. The concept of self-defense was created and adopted after the Norman conquest of England in 1066.
Coming back up through time back to 1970 and the mass shooting event at Kent State University there was a famous rock and roll band called Crosby Stills Nash & Young they made a song called "Ohio".

In terms of major difference the removal of the bureaucracy in relation to imports and exports in Argentina would be the easiest and most effective first step he could possibly take. I would expect that in itself would relieve the countries economy and reduce inflation substantially in one move.

I think the world has existed long enough that if people who genuinely care are in charge they will understand what buttons will work best. Problem for any government is that pushing all the buttons together or turning them all off both break the system. For me the import/export minefield in Argentina would offer an easy win and put what will be many doubters in the background to let him try his more extreme ideas; because you never know, some might just work !!
In just 3 days of government he reduced government size by 34%, gov spending for 3% of gdp and eliminated all restrictions to imports while giving a new tax regime to exporters that should give them a net 50% gain over the last one. Things are Fk rough here rn but people voted for this change and we are hopefull he can get us through it

Trump and Milei are very similar in their campaign styles. That is why they are often compared. Ideologically, Trump a populist and Milei is more of a libertarian.

You don't get it! Argentina just like Mexico right now was ruled by a party that overspends in giving free money to students and people who just don't want to work. For example, normally in summer young Argentinians used to get jobs in tourist sites. They no longer do so because they have free money from the government. Not only that economy is bad because the government doesn't build new roads or fix bridges. Government construction projects are an important part of Latin American countries' economies. Mexico has zero and the economy is bad for people. Governments expending money on welfare just cause inflation and poverty.

There is a difference between running for office and governing. What Milei provides is vision and if he provides clear leadership he will compromise on the less important and stand fast on the more important. What makes a good leader is to know the difference.

What should be minor petty interactions can cause real problems and large sweeping changes pass through. I believe the other parties and especially the powerful unions are the real players that have to be dealt with and either appeased or defeated. In the commercial side, Milei wants to break commercial relations with China because they are "communists". China is the second largest trade partner of Argentina. So it really seems that Milei puts his politics well above his love for free trade. The first trade partner of Argentina is Brazil and this is possible due to the Mercosur, which is a free trade agreement between the countries in the South of South America and he wants to kill it. The video simply took his words about the Mercosur as the truth and didn't bother to check if they are correct or not. Well, the are not. Mercosur is a free trade agreement that benefits all economic agents located in any of the member-countries. There is simply no basis to argue that it benefits only crony businessmen. Mercosur has just finished negotiating a free deal with the European Union and, guess what, Milei is against it and doesn't want to sign the deal. I started to play with libertarian ideas in Obama's second term, until Bernie ran and he gave me hope. I have always been left, but if the government isn't going to spend its money correctly, then by no means do I want to pay taxes to it (and honestly we could have a much more progressive tax base as is, starting by removing taxes for lower and middle class and imposing land value taxes). I am for open borders, legalising all drugs, deregulating our zoning laws here in the US (amongst other nonsensical or crony regulations) and am prochoice, so parts of libertarianism were very appealing to me. I don't think pure libertarianism is feasible or a good idea (healthcare, education, housing, infrastructure, workers rights etc so many things require a collective approach). These days I am basically a communist libertarian (mostly because I am tired of the tenant landlord relationship and being gouged both on taxes and rent, would rather just pay rent via LVTs to a government that is focused on the collective good and focuses on decision, not debate - china builds shit, we lot our country rot, and due away with landlords all together. If you want to make $ by starting a business then have at it) and I am curious to see how Milei's policies will affect the country. Although him being pro gun, anti environment, pro life, and unable to see any benefit to left wing politics makes him a bit too far right for my taste.
Unfortunately, "communist libertarian" is an oxymoron based on the simple fact that the latter is a focus on individualism while the former on collectivism.
That said, to be clear, I see neither as inherently good or bad and they can coexist is a larger holistic government structure. Both have their place in different levels of government.
For example: My *opinion* is that the US federal government should be purely libertarian, while the lower the government levels should be increasingly socialist (with local municipal governments being nearly full socialist). Why? Sociopolitical diversity. Socialist/Communist governments always have failed historically because they have the equivalent of a massive federal government that is balancing the needs of very diverse groups, leading to all of them usually not getting what they need (hence the "bread line" stereotype). Conversely, hyper-local governments ideally should be dealing with a far more focused sociopolitical population, and thus be far better able to address that population's specific needs.
Interestingly, this is not dissimilar to what US founders wrote about intending for the US, but the US Civil War and then President Roosevelt during the Great Depression largely destroyed that idea.

When looking at politics on a economic left versus economic right and authoritarian versus liberal graph, Milei is definitely further right wing than Trump as stated by your own evidence. milei seems to be a libaterian where as trump is further to the left in terms of economy and definitely more authoritarian than milei.

I agree with the video that Milei and Trump are different in many ways. Where I have a disagreement is implying he is not right wing because of these differences. Right wing is mostly the belief in free enterprise as opposed to socialism. With that goes less regulation, lower taxes, smaller government and opposition to communism. Based on those criteria, Milei is more right wing than Trump. Right wing typically includes strong national defense and traditional values, but these ideas are flexible based on what threats you perceive and what your values are.
That is not inherently right wing lol. Facism is considered right wing yet has increased government, regulations, and less individual liberties.

This is the problem of viewing politics on a binary left or right scale. The political four square is much better. At placing multiple ideals. But even then you can’t just lump someone into “left or right” wings.
Argentina is a different country with different social and economic needs. Ultimately, their goal might be the same (positive) or really similar, but the ways to get there need to be different to adjust to their special situations.

My economic education followed the multiple theories :Keynesian,Marxist, Monetarist, Modern Neoclassicalist, social welfare, etc. Marxist is a failure it has been tried enough times to show this. Argentina and the USA are in different places. Both would do well to balance their budgets and cut Government spending. As a Federal Republic, the USA could massively decentralize in social welfare and offload the system to be closer to the taxpayers and beneficiaries. Argentina is in such a dire place it needs radical surgery, And the USA needs reorganization with more power to the states after almost 100 years of concentration of federal power.

Name a socialist nation (that wasn't made made socialist as a result of losing WW2 as a punitive measure) that was richer before it turned socialist, compared to after it turned socialist.
The only one I can think of is Venezuela. Apart from Venezuela, every nation that fits the parameters of the question was a pre or early industrial society before becoming socialist. To compare the economic situation of the Soviet Union and the USA is not at all a fair comparison, as the Soviet Union/Russian Empire had begun industrialization about 60-100 years after America had; same story with other nations that fit the parameters. A more fair comparison for the Soviet Union for example (in GDP per capita) would be Turkey, as they were both at roughly the same level of development at the time of the Russian civil war/Turkish war of independence.

That 10% is just for the EU as a whole each country compounds this by adding more on the tariffs. France, Germany and Italy have stupid tariffs on US vehicles.

Very good description! Great job. I pray that people, especially Argentinians, recognize that reforms are needed no matter political interest. And reforms WILL hurt on the short term. On the long term, if done right, everybody will be feasting!
I have wondered why Milei speaks so highly of Trump when their policies could not be more different. I think it's moreso that Milei admires Trump's popular appeal and campaign strategies. Plus, his coalition party (Libertad Avanza) was primarily a coalition of just about anyone who 1) wasn't a socialist and 2) despised the Peronists. Trump would've fit this criteria, so Milei probably would've coalitioned with him and others like him.
Many Argentines admire Americans because they are much richer. Trump, to them, symbolized capitalism even if that is a myth. So many of them like Trump.
Maybe they realize they're dealing with different contexts and thus the specific policies they advance may differ, but still are on the same side.
Milei is more ideological, so he might favor abolishing the central bank in every country, for ex, but we don't know if he would support dollarization for other countries, and we have no idea if trump's policy prescriptions for other countries would be the same as the US when it comes to economics, tariffs, etc.
And as you mentioned, neither are single people, but leaders of coalitions that are quite similar when you look at them.

It is not uncommon for ideologically different leaders to ally for mutual benefits.
Currently, libertarian and conservative are in truce, simply because liberals are losing their marbles and let themselves getting cucked by socialism. They will be at each other throat on any other day, but not today.

Despite their exorbitant cost American Teslas are also dumped as well as all our agricultural products and many of other products you wouldn't think of. As a result, the global market has become something countries have to either protect themselves against or be economically ruined by.
