Love fried green tomatoes! Lots of variations to make them. My Momma would slice them and salt and pepper them, dip them in egg, flour and cornmeal mixed, fry them and very lightly sprinkle them with sugar while they were hot They were awesome! At the end of the gardening season, after canning the ripe ones, she prepared them to get, layered them between pieces of waxed paper, put them in air tight containers and froze them... We had them all winter long. ❤

Momma always made sure they were green green. Flour, salt, pepper, a touch of sugar to reduce the acidity. That's it. I always looked forward to the tomatoes coming in because we ate them every day for supper. My dad loved them
We cook ours in cornmeal and self rising flour mixed. They are always sooooo good.

I love fried green tomatoes! Been eating them since I was little. But i, like you, S&P only and no cornmeal. I live alone so when I make them I eat the whole plate full and nothing else!
Tammy if you put your salt on your tomatoes first then put your pepper in your cornmeal you don't even have to put buttermilk on them, just dust them in your cornmeal and fry until crispy. Yum yum..
I make fried green tomatoes as long as I can get them. Nothing better. God Bless.

My momma always chopped up the tomatoes. She salted, peppered, and put self rising flour on them and scrambled them in hot bacon grease. They were delicious. I fix mine like hers and also the way you make them too, Tammy! Now my sweet mother-in-law would make fried ripe tomatoes for breakfast. They were also delicious. Thanks for your videos! This was such a great video showing them both!!! I don’t have cornmeal on hand but the flour ones turned out really beautiful looking!!! Just so happened during this whole lockdown the only flour I could find was one huge bag of self rising flour so I love this recipe!!!! I can’t wait to try it!!!!

I cooked these today (all green because that’s how my mama did it). I dredged them in flour (even though I love corn meal). They were perfect and crunchy. Tasted like my mama’s used to. A great and easy way to fry them. Maybe next time I will use tomatoes that are beginning to turn and try the corn meal method. Thanks for showing us both ways.💝

I found green tomatoes at my local grocer and decided I wanted some fried green tomatoes. I searched your videos and found how to make them. I followed your directions for the flour battered ones today and they were so delicious!! This southern girl was in heaven on earth!

OMG! I hav'nt had fried green tomatoes in ages! Here in New England , green tomatoes are hard to find. When I was younger used to love on bolognie sandwich with lots of hot sauce...! Loved them !
Never had them that way but it sounds pretty good.

You REALLY have to be careful with them. Mine did not last too long. But I am rough on pans.

I'm new to your channel and after watching five or six of your videos I subscribed, I just love the way you make your videos it's down home warm friendly Southern hospitality and cooking what I like most is when you make a mistake you don't edit it out you leave it in there and it makes the video real the same mistakes I would make if I was cooking at my own house like dropping something on the floor that was funny. It's a real pleasure watching your videos. I like the recipe done two different ways side by side.

My father-in-law and i would always fuss over the first green tomatoes. I wanted them fried and he wanted rhem to ripen to sell ah, well....... I prefer my tomatoes with some cayene in the breading, fried in bacon grease, and served with remolade sauce. Yunnnnnn!!!!!!!!!

They would be very crispy if you draw the water out of the tomatoes with salt before cooking. I do the same when frying squash.

Is I dice my tomatoes , soak in buttermilk then flour and fry. Sometimes I do the tomatoes with okra. Yum. The only time I slice and fry is when I make a BLT sandwich

I like mine a little red too. They have more flavor. I also don't care for too much cornmeal! Last ones I made the other day were not very good but my cow loved them! I have tomatoes coming in from the garden tomorrow. So I will be trying your recipe with more of the self rising flour.

Cornmeal with a little flour mixed in is how I do it. Get them good and browned. Eat them just as they are too!!
It all looked yummy to me. I haven't had a fried green tomato in ages. We've had several years of blossom rot on all our tomato plants so we've not been able to make any. Dont crowd your pan it cooks more evenly. Love the flour and cornmeal teaspoon of cornstarch (makes good crisp) mix, season with salt, pepper and some cajun seasoning, egg and butter milk, touch of sugar. Pure perfection
My copper pan sticks but either way with flour or corn meal is ok. the corn meal does burn quicker in the pan.

i love fried tomatoes, i love orange and a little rip also. but you left a thick end cap, i could have gotten 2 more slices of that and cooked it, but in our house, it was waste not want not... and yeah i grew up dirt poor and with out running water or a inside toilet, so I know home cooking, i love love love your videos! thank you for sharing, i am not being mean lol... just i eat all of the tomato.

My Daddy was a fry cook and his favorite coating blend was half cornmeal and half flour. Of course somethings he only used flour! Tammy my Daddy was bald and my Mama use to kiss him on the head like you did Chris, Lol. My husband has a full head of hair @ 66 but our oldest son is bald and youngest son has a full head of hair. Chris is nice looking and so is my son, they don't need hair to make them nice looking! I half to say our youngest son is nice looking I was just trying to make a point.

Try remember what we putted in them? Did zucchini like that also YUMMY. paprika, cumin, curry, coriander ....kitchen sink.....! Did that with rice w/raisins, sunflower seeds, onions, cumin, curry, coriander, paprika, garlic, salt, pepper........kitchen sink, yumm! We call it kitchen sink rice :)
Oh yeah, and chili powder, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder....
