The funniest part about this scene is that for all aunt may knows, Peter just ran off without her.

I love how Doc’s sunglasses resist everything thrown at them except May’s mighty umbrella 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That umbrella is just Mjölnir in disguise.
Forget about the glasses, how can his head resist a single punch from spidey's superstrenght without it blowing up like a melon. Anyway, who cares, without this "plot hole" we wouldn't have a movie.
@Devin Corbett So why not punching him with just enough strenght to knock him out? Again, "plot hole" but who cares, the movie is awesome.
Peter had to beat an old lady with that umbrella, Aunt May just let him borrow it

Even better is that the movie takes the entire situation seriously.
It's close to the comics.
And the bank stores the money in literal bags with coins lmao 💰
Its pure Stan Lee /John Romita in this scene.

I still love that "Shame on you!" from Aunt May. Little old lady has been used as a hostage & beanbag by a guy she saw rip out a vault door, definitely terrified, probably traumatized, but using Spiderman's concern for her well-being for a dirty trick? Not on her watch!

I love it too. Doctor Octopus looks awesome. As a fan of Marvel, I started off with growing up with watching Spider-Man The Animated Series first then I went crazy to see the first 2 live action Spider-Man films when they came out. One of my first episodes from the TAS is Make A Wish with Doctor Octopus as the villain. And finally, when this movie came out after the first one, man, the way the filmmakers bring him to life is insane.💥 BUT… my 1 little problem about this movie though that at least didn’t killed the movie, is that they go too far with the romantic relationship drama scenes where MJ is nothing but being a b*h & Peter was being a cry baby about her. And then it keeps going back & forth with the too, It’s just stupid to me. It’s REALLY so stupid.🙄
I just love how Tobey’s Spider-Man was a toe to toe, straight up brawler whereas Andrew’s relied more on agility and avoiding attacks

The fact that they actually dangled the actors from the side of a building for this scene is great. The fact that Rosemary Harris still did that age 76 is just badass.
2000s Spider-Man fight scenes were always the best for me, it has the perfect balance of cgi and actual props that it makes the scenes look so real. Christ died for your sins and rose on the third day, showing that anyone who trusts in him for salvation, will have everlasting life.

(John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
No they didn't. It was green screened.
[Edit] My bad. I thought you were referring to the scene where Doctor Octopus was climbing up the side of the building.
This is something I really missed about these original Spider Man films. The pratical effects trumps the visuals so well compared to the newer spider man movies. I am super excited this may very well finally become connected to the MCU which would be such a great way to bring this back to life again.
Can’t understate how impactful the performance of Rosemary Harris is in all of these films. Brings a tremendous amount of depth to Aunt May.

3:30 "Butterfingers." This line delivery is so funny to me, especially the subtle shoulder movement he does right after.
The action here is iconic, we all know this, but nobody talks about how heartbreaking this opening is. Peter and May can't do a damn thing to find financial stability, and May is so poor that she looks at a free toaster as a gift from the gods. You can feel her pain as she's denied even something as simple as that, which we take for granted each day as a general household appliance. It's such a great moment, building up their humanity as characters and their relatability. You feel for them, and want them to finally get what they deserve.
Damn that’s deep, raimi is a genius
and we can add to the fact that she respect herself not being wealthy and being honest towards herself. When the bank guy wants to take the dollar she stops him from doing it acknowledging the fact that its not right to do so
It’s these bits of relatability that I feel are lacking in the new Spidey films. They’re good in their in own merit but these movies really feel like they have a breath and a beating heart when you watch them over and over again.
Also that “Don’t worry… we’ll figure it out.” from Peter sounds so defeated like… Even Web-Slinging Spider-Man cant get around these problems!
They just don’t make them like they use to

If you look at the suit during fights, it's not that far off the Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Of course the latter still looks better, but you can clearly tell it's CGI, which is weird 10+ years later.
Same with Doc Oc's arms - I'd argue they look better in Spider-Man 2 than No Way Home trailer, because they used actual arms more often. A lot of people said that the new Spider-Man suit would look way better, if they wouldn't just slap the CGI all over it - you can see in "behind the scenes" that Holland has an actual suit on him, yet they still choose CGI.
The original trilogy suite of Spiderman looks much more realistic as for the new suite of the Spiderman movies look like its as if he is wearing his merch
The movies aged amazingly and the cgi still holds up. Especially in 2 and 3.
Ok 90s dude
In what world? The CGI has aged very poorly and sticks out like a sore thumb. Totally distracting by today's standards. If you can't tell that bank vault door was totally fake as soon as it was shown for example then you got some rose colored glasses on. As much as I love the MCU, the visual clarity of Raimi’s action scenes still sets the bar. White coin bags, yellow taxi cab doors, beige Aunt May, Red Spidey, brickwork background. He really cuts down the visual background noise and turns up the main elements, so you always understand what’s going on and none of the clever stunts or camerawork get lost in the noise. Yet it still looks grounded and realistic. Can’t wait to see what Raimi brings to DS2,

And the sound design is always on point. So awesome.
Yeah, it has a very "classic golden age comic-book" feel to it. Especially compared to superhero movies these days.
Even the cinematography has several shots that could look like an image in a comic book panel but live action.
That’s kind of comes with it being New York, so that might really extend back to Stan Lee’s and the original Marvel staff’s understanding of the New York environment.
Now that you said this, I feel like he may ruin Dr. Strange for me... possibly. I loved the first one for not only Benedict Cumberbatch and dramatic pacing (far better than other Marvel movies) but also the visual effects. If he makes it more clear what's going on, that may ruin the visual effects. I hope not though because I still hold those three Spiderman movies in high regard (yes, even Bully Maguire).

Well he’s the only one who knows how to fight it’s probably cause canonically he’s the oldest
My man landed a pretty brutal head-butt as well
You're softer than white bread dipped in pudding..
Wow yeah I noticed that. Tom's spiderman doesn't punch.
This is the moment when Aunt May figured out Peter’s secret. And I’ll never be convinced otherwise.
How so?
I think you might be on to something
This is the exact moment Aunt May became Heisenberg
Maybe she refers to Aunt May from the Ps4 game, where does she know Peter's identity?
@@dukejpc he’s referring to this movie. When Peter gives up being Spider-Man and visits aunt may (moving out scene) she gives Peter a whole speech on why people love Spider-Man and why they need him.
It’s incredible that this scene is very nearly 20 years old. And the only part of CGI that doesn’t hold up is the vault door.
Bro this movie is too good, still probably the overall best Spiderman film
I like how the bank vault is literally just bags of scrooge mcduck coins strewn about.
i love 2000 movies
Now its safety deposit boxes
Back when comic book movies were comical
Probably more visually interesting than just stealing bonds and boxes.
😂😂😂😂I thought the same thing
I really like this Stan Lee appearance because he got to be a hero and saved somebody too. Even if it is one of the smallest and quickest of his cameos
Time stamp?
@@Apophis.004 3:43
@@infragames5447 thanks
Stan Lee is the one above all so it makes sense he's in so many movies/universes
Imagine if Sam Raimi told Stan less than a second before the scene shoot. "BTW Stan thats not a fake - ACTION!!!"
Stan - "Look out!!"
Overall, this is probably the best Spiderman scene of all 8 movies. Best Aunt May, best villain, Spiderman makes quips, awesome cooperation between May and Peter, and excellent choreography.
I'm not saying it's best at everything; obviously Electro fight had much better visual effects and NWH final battle was the most exciting, but this fight reflects a Spiderman comic better than any other fight in all the movies.
The final battle in Spider-Man 3 has the best visual effects
Nah, NWH final battle was mid.
Are we just gonna ignore Stan Lee saving a life at 3:43?
Nah bro. Stan Lee was a hero. I forgot about that scene and seeing it again brought a tear to my eye.
The “Lookout” and marvelous save from Stan. LEGEND
I was thinking the same thing!
Stan Lee will always be in our hearts and movie in cameos forever. :)
I wondered if that was him then I remember he wasn't as old as he was In the other marvel films
Alfred Molina was perfect as Doctor octopus and i can't wait to see him again in the next movie
Me too (>w
Nice profile picture.
3:32 you’re telling me Aunt May survived this no problem but Gwen Stacy who is much younger & potentially flexible she couldn’t ?😂
Didn’t her head literally slam into the concrete
As good as No Way Home was, I still consider this movie to be the best Spider-Man movie
Not counting me but you're probably not alone with that
Agreed
No way home is overrated

I never noticed that either Lol
Because Otto learns from his mistakes
@@davidgordillo6583 Allen Tsai reference. Nice.
This movie still holds up 👌🏾
It's the best one of all the films
The villain is really good in this film and makes it way more memorable. Not only on an emotional level but also as a pretty unique "monster". Also, films these days rely on using CGI to create the scene. These films used it to supplement the scenes, not dictate them.
Better than the topher Grace's comical venom
Yes, that's why it is called the greatest superhero movie of all time. The CGI were revolutionary back then and it holds up and they also used a lot of props instead of full CGI.
It REALLY does. I'm absolutely sick of the Marvel takeover of the film industry, but this is one damn amazing sequence.
3:59 there is almost an identical shot in No Way Home
5:19 Aunt May doing an incredibly fast moonwalk.
🤣🤣🤣Aunt May has practised this all her life.
Legend has it, in her earlier years she came across a young Michael Jackson, and upon being impressed by his dancing prowess, she took him as a disciple. Though he was talented... More so even than anyone else she had ever seen, Michael could never master the final technique to the same level as his teacher.
I don't have nothing against Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland's movies. But this is the masterpiece that deserves all the credit. Sam Raimi was something else.
Facts 🔥
I don't have nothing against the spiderman raimi trilogy but the mcu spidey trilogy is twice as good as this trilogy will ever be.

How did that go down after, I'm pretty sure if I just ran off and left my old aunt in danger to save myself then my family wouldn't speak to me.
@@mast3rchief536 I think Aunt May secretly realised that Peter is Spiderman. From his voice and appearance of spidey immediately after disappearance of Peter.
@@mast3rchief536 aunt may secretly knew he was spider-man, you can tell later in the movie
@@TheRealRip-Tide wasn’t confirmed though
@@dipanjanghosal1662 She also said "Oh have I been wrong about you."
Which might be interpreted as her been a Spidey skeptic now convinced otherwise, but I think the more likely explanation is she was talking about Peter.
Now instead of her seeing Peter struggle with his priorities at school and missing events, she now realises that he's been doing overtime as Spiderman. Not to mention she had just thought that Peter had abandoned her, but nope he just went to disguise his identity and is the hero Spiderman.
Honestly Peter running away and then Spiderman immediately showing up who has the exact same build and voice as Peter was probably a dead give away for her.
That part when Doc Ock takes parts of the taxi and throws it at Spiderman is so badass.
Just want to say this, the use of practical and cgi on Doc Ock's arms are amazing.
Sam Raimi really has a thing about closeups of screaming women.
Yess
I just noticed that haha
Dude filmed horror movies and stuff like that before Spider-Man, I’m not surprised!
He's a horror film master, which makes it even more impressive how he was able to make superhero films.
Fetish?

4:53 the colors of the suit look so vibrant in this shot. I love it! Also I’m glad we can now sling shot in Spider-Man 2 PS5 like in this scene.
4:07 Easy to miss but Spider-Man is fighting very realistically here. He throws headbutts and knees. It's not just the clean techniques.
Definitely shows he's getting desperate and holding less back in order to get to Aunt May faster.
@@SeaFR well he’s still holding back a lot lol. He could easily knock doc ock’s face off with a single punch if he gets serious.
@@jamelgallagher6602 Yeah, I know. He was able to punch someone's jaw clean off in the comics, but what I'm talking about is his fighting style.

The scenes with May really show how much of a good influence she has been on Peter. When Doc Ock threw money on the ground and in spite of her money problems she didn’t take a penny for herself. And when Doc Ock was about to kill Spider-Man whom is a complete stranger to her, without hesitation or the thought of what might happen to her she saved his life. She also doesn’t seem to afraid of heights. So basically her traits are:
-Keeps there morals in tense situations.
-Risks there life to save people they don’t know.
-And Isn’t afraid of heights.(unless falling from them)
