It was originally written in the 1930s by American composer Dana Suesse, Apparently just for record/performance; so a ballad, not part of a musical.
You definitely need a Tenor who isn't afraid to go for it to sing this song.
I'd put this up against Mario Lanza any day, though this one has a slightly better finish.
