First Video of 2024! 🎊 What Airlines do you really want to see this year?!
British Airways
Royal air Maroc for sure ❤🇲🇦
Norwegian vs Finnair
British vs Air france
brussels airlines should you go to!
Aussie Flight Attendant here, ngl when I clicked on this video I half expected straight up slander, was really nice to see an open and honest review. A couple of things I would like to mention that may or may not provide some clarification.
1. No electronic devices on the tarmac areas is much like not being allowed on your phone when filling up your car (or a least that's a rule here in Australia) in addition to that because there's heavy machinery around and it's considered a 'sterile area' any distraction to yourself could lead you to accidentally doing something dangerous. We as crew are also trained to spot people who may be trying to record their surrounding with the intention of trying to find holes in security on premises so there's quite a few reasons why this is a no no.
2. The REX (short for Regional Express) lounge is indeed quite small, however they are only just gaining a foothold in the greater australian domestic market and up until now have been too small to lease any particularly major infrastructure within the airports. They are expanding quickly for the moment and their service is actually really good as well, highly recommend trying them out next time as they were recently rated as one of the best.
3. Jetstar recently introduced a pay-to-view in flight entertainment system which are still being rolled out onto aircraft, the most interesting part about it is that there isn't a screen in the back of the seat or in the armrest. You connect to a system on your own device that allows you to stream shows or movies and it's pretty cheap so for longer flights (2hrs+) its in my opinion really worth it. Just gotta remember to bring your own headphones for that one
4. Free water on the flight is actually a law as the crew serve alcohol, under the Liquor Regulation 2002 laws it's a requirement for a licensed premises including aircraft to provide free drinking water upon request in Australia.
5. Qantas banning recording onboard is an interesting topic which I feel quite a few people have misunderstood. At first glance I totally get that it looks like the company trying to cover itself up on a few fronts but there is some reason to it. First and foremost a handful of crazy/nasty people have intentionally gone out of their way to capture footage of crew in the midst of their duties because they are unhappy with any number of menial things. The faces and name badge photos of these crew are then distributed online paired with an exaggerated version of events and a crew member who may have only been trying their best within the scope of their job is then harrassed by a large group of people. 9 times out of 10, the reason this has happened is because someone hasn't wanted to follow simple instruction on board or has neglected/refused to comply with the law or airline policy. It is a requirement under Australian Law that if a Cabin Crew member gives you an instruction for operational or safety reasons then you must comply. The amount of incidents in which this happened flared up over the last holiday period and as a precautionary measure to protect crew and some passengers who suffered a similar fate, the no recording rule was rolled out. I myself was a victim of this, and the reason the guy in question flipped out and recorded me was because I asked him to put his armrest down, seatback upright and to have his window shade opened for landing as part of standard protocol. The biggest issue is that our crew ID is actually a form of government ID so if someone takes a photo and distributes it with the ID in the picture it actually poses a massive security risk as flashing one of those will let you into most secure areas of an airport.
5 tldr: A few idiots that thought they were above the rules ruined it for everyone.
Hope this provides a little bit of insight :D
Good read, well formatted and good information
Which airline do you work on
Thank you. Unfortunately, like most media these days, the truth, as you have here, doesn't get views, and even the most respected CZcamsrs are chasing views, since views equals income.
As someone working in the aviation industry in Australia THANK YOU so much for this comment!!!
As a travel agent in AUS, this is a great comment. I sell a lot of REX as I am in a regional area, and find they are fantastic!
It should be noted that JetStar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas.
Also I wouldn’t call it a budget airline on the same level as Ryanair or Spirit. Ryanair and Spirit are Ultra Low Cost carriers (ULCC), whereas JetStar is just a Low Cost carrier (LCC)

The security checks have nothing to do with the airline. This is more of a comparison between Brisbane and Melbourne airports. The biggest issue with Jetstar is if you get delayed or cancelled. The flight itself is usually ok
this is exactly what i was coming here to say. Security is about the airports. We live in AUS and my family does FIFO and there are some security that pick on our family EVERY time. and some that never do.
its also fun cause going from Brisbane to Melbourne recently.
Brisbane they checked my bag

Hey Eric, I was a Qantas Engineer in BNE. There is a Qantas Lounge near the suitcase store and the eatery. Where you were you just have to walk through the walkway again where you can see Qantas and QantasLink and on the right will be the lounge.

I think the big difference between the two is status for frequent flyers, if you’re Qantas gold or above you get separate security/lounge access, premium seat selection, extra baggage allowance and priority boarding, which makes a huge difference. Keep in mind, Jetstar is wholly owned by Qantas so aside from what you pointed out in the review they do have some operational synergy’s.
I really like your perspective reviews. It's upfront, informative, real time action, and honest. I look forward to more of your videos. Happy flying Sir !
I’m excited for more videos at last! I got bored for so long and now we’re back! YEEEEESSSSS. Thank you for this video THANK YOU.
Hello! You should definitely do another video in Europe doing
EasyJet vs British Airways
Those airlines, used to fight about who was better, so it would be great to see you opinion 🤩
With Qantas I’ve noticed when my dad was a Qantas gold status and the gate agent didn’t realise they told him it was a full flight in the same situation as you and then they realised he was good and magically a business seat opened up for him 😂, and I was in Longreach and a woman chased me off the tarmac for taking a photo of the nose 😭And the good thing is that you had a good time in the air, but I think Qantas has a great in flight service whereas the ground service is quite the experience, those self check in kiosks are quite common especially after the pandemic now so foreign travellers get confused sometimes, but they offer great service for Introverts
went to Longreach for a roadtrip once 🤞🤞
i live in australia and i agree with you. jetstar is a underrated airline. their customer service is questionable but they have very comfortable seats and good food. qantas has gone down hill considerably. i hope you had fun flying with both of them!
As an Australian I"'m happy to see this video and for you flying from my Home city in Brisbane. Keep up the great work Eric.😃
thanks eric i was scared to ride Qantas but for you i got enough courage to ride qantas thanks eric

Please man don't hate on Brisbane airport, they are getting a huge revamp of 5 billion USD, to make airport security faster and easier without having to take anything out, they are rated the 2nd best airport in Australia by SkyTrax. There is a reason they are hosting the 2032 Olympics. This hurt man😔😔
Jetstar has been okay recently! I took two flights with them last week and it was great, no delays. They even gave me a free aircraft model, beautiful gesture 😊
Thank you for finding my comment and making this video ❤ I live in Melbourne
Hey Eric, I had the same complaints about the IFE on my qantas flight Brisbane to Singapore. They are in the process of replacing the IFE so no worries! The new ones are really flashy so look out!
FINALLY, YOU’RE BACK FROM SUCH A LONG TIME!
you should do FlySafAir! Named as one of the best budget airlines, globally, 94% punctuality rate. Let’s say your hand luggage is overweight, guess what! NO EXTRA FEES! only R30-R50 to choose your seat (that’s cheap, trust me) also the carrier that carries the South African national rugby team! The springboks! Happy you uploaded again! Hoping for a lot more videos to come!
I've gone on both, and I have to say Qantas is better for plane quality and Jetstar is so much more better with basically no flight delays, good management, good staff, and more reliable.
Edit: The reason the Brisbane security took everything out of your bag is because Australian airports have very strict item rules and security.
As an Australian, I've flown Qantas and Jetstar many times over the past decade, and frankly I actually don't mind Jetstar, the flights I've taken with them have always been on time, and I don't mind paying extra for food, or I simply get something at the airport prior to boarding. The free food on Qantas for what you pay for isn't really much in the scheme of things, typically it's a simple snack and a drink or a meal that's been heated up if you're getting the breakfast or dinner service which are only on a few selected flights that depart at certain times. The good thing about Qantas though is that you generally do get better overall service for the most part, and they even provide free entertainment that you can access, and that I'm willing to pay for with a bit of extra money.
The biggest downside with Jetstar are their strict baggage rules and how heavy your bag can be to bring it on board, it's also quite expensive to pay for extra kgs for baggage, which for someone who lives with a disability and needs to carry medical equipment on board, can be a bit expensive.
Spot on with your summary of the 2 airlines. There is very little difference between the different Australian airlines though most people have a favourite.
You were lucky to get an international-spec plane for your Qantas leg and note that the poor legroom is the same on all Qantas flights including longhaul international.
Qantas domestic legroom on 737 is 30". International is a tiny bit bigger at 31 or 32" depending on aircraft.
@@mark123655 thank you for the correction. I've done more than my share of 10+ hour flights on Qantas' ageing A330's with 31" pitch which the bulky IFE screen makes seem even smaller. I much prefer to fly ANA with their 34" pitch.
So cool! You flew on the same jetstar plane as I did from Melbourne to Cairns
Keep up the good airline vids because i've always wanted to go to another country!🎉
Hey Eric I work for Qantas and I’m glad you like it lol. Maybe next time your in Sydney I could get you in the lounge if I’m working😅 (also Qantas made Jetstar 😂)
1:34 "swap"? "swab"? I'm sure there is the option to pay extra for an exit row seat for better legroom. The fact that you were on a Jetstar A321, rather than a beat-up old A320, made a difference.
Finally! I was waiting for this day
I am coming here to state that I could not have been happier with Jetstar Australia. Coming home from Christmas in Melbourne , tired and overloaded with extra luggage we were told at the check-in that the flight home was overbooked. I had no words. My wife was exhausted. We sighed that deep regret of acknowledgement that the world's business sometimes overwhelms the simplest people. I remember that I was clutching a life-sized Santa stocking full of Christmas gifts and that we were dragging a couple of those wheeled supersized suitcases, plus shoulder bag carry-ons, all full to burst. My wife sort of leaned against me and looked forlornly down at the carpet, both of us expecting to have to spend the night stretched out on that carpet over nearer the closest wall. " We can get you onto the next flight, first thing in the morning", explained the Jet Star check-in chicky with genuine regret at our dismay. ( OH, I know that is not the politically correct way to address the stressed out, overworked staff of a professional organisation. At near to seventy years old, even middle aged well dressed and coifed women are young enough to be my daughters and I still think, in passing ,that I would not have resentment against those lovely girls being so addressed, excepting as by a lout in a temper. Which I was not, am not and will try to be not.) Check-Out-In Chicky it is.
At that moment , dark had long since descended outside of the terminal, we were too tired to care about anything. To have come so close to home, one short hour's flight after a month away amidst the bustling city, the joyous relatives, the explosive energy of grandchildren and the unused to smaller than comfortable beds, , the packing, the thee farewells, the escape.. we were spent. We had also blown a wall sized hole in our pensioner's credit cards. All hopes were downcast. Then from behind the milling crowd;
A guardian angle descended upon us, her glorious smile irradiating the goodwill she wished to share. " Would you like the airline, JetStar, to put you up in an hotel for the evening? We can arraign that for you.", this said by the well meaning Angel oblivious to our depleted finances and our overall depleted reserves of energy to move further. " We have a limousine waiting to take you into town where all of our JetStar staff stay.", she explained in so kind manner that I was sad to almost say , " No, thank you. We will flop down against a wall. " Seeing my lack of enthusiasm arising she forestalled my objection with that magical phrase," The airline, Jet Star will pay for the room and give you gift certificates for meals. Please take this offer." Glory be and wowee, our spirits arose like larks singing at heaven's gate, ( forgive the misquote from some school suffered poetry.) A uniformed chauffeur took our bags, so many bags, and stuffed them into the accomodating rear end of a stretched LIMO. My first LIMO and whisked us off throught the swirling morass of busy Brisbane city to hand us off the also uniformed DOORMAN of the PULLMAN HOTEl. ( HOLLY SMOKES BATMAN.) They were expecting us. Ten minutes later we were stretched out on the double-wide beds debating whether we migh crawl down to the restaurant to eat or just go to sleep immediately. Yeah, well, Free food doesn't wait for the lay-a-beds so we washed up and leaned against each other in the elevator back to the lobby. Low and behold my hands, the restaurant was BONG TONG dontcha know. First class, suit and tie. It was by fortune's fate that I had worn long pants to fly. A small drink, not fruit juice. A long sumptuous meal, ( have you ever had a sauce hand made by the Chef from exotic ingredients, some pomegranate stuff? ). Couldn't fit in a dessert for I would have had to lean my head back to keep it down. I loosened the old trouser belt I will say, 'Top Notch Tucker.' Then to bed and a deep, sound snooze, too soon interrupted tov then reverse our course back to the airport in another LIMO. It seems we were to get our extra luggage all stowed away without an extra charge too. How good was our misfortune? By golly , that missing our flight was the best bit of bad luck ever visited on poor travellers. Looking back, I still smile and nearly laugh and wonder how we were so chosen to be picked out of a crowd. Perhaps we will miss another flight, anytime, with JetStar. Thanks folks. See you in the sky over my house all of the time whereas I never bothered to notice before. A big thumbs up for the JetStar service and a bigger wink to all of the Chickies.
Eric would fly on any airline for his CZcams channel, I respect that 🫡
Finally a vid I have been waiting for

I flew flight JQ288 from Christchurch - Wellington, 25 minutes gained early in the air. Great prices aswell. Thanks for sharing!

Its great to see aussie content, we need more content like this! What about the other aussie airliners like bonsa and rex
Brisbane airport does have check in desks well at least when i went in 2023. And when i went to brisbane airport the security was fine.
Im so happy you finally came to my home country, also you should do virgin australia vs Rex
Brisbane airport doesn't have kiosks, but Perth does, Qantas does have a business lounge, First class and rewards member lounge with unlimited drinks and food, and they have tvs int there and a nice view of the runway
Bro I love your reviews thanks for trying Qantas I live in Australia ❤❤❤❤❤😊
Hehe
To make it more fair you should take the flights out of the same airports and landing at the same airport as some airports have better ground services than others. That’s qantas didnt have much at Brisbane and didnt even have a lounge, but Jetstar had better check in, and they had a lunge. Love your videos! :)
online check in is the norm for domestic flights, those kiosks can print out a physical boarding pass if you want and can also check you in too, but they just prefer online check in and said check in can *normally* let you change your seat pick
actually cant remember if the Qantas ones will actually print a boarding pass cause i normally just fly virgin. always find it weird to do a virgin flight with a manned bag drop, kinda prefer the auto bad drop cause its just faster.
THANK YOU ERIC IT MEANS LOTS TO US AUSSIES
Great to see you in my Home Country! :)
Most of the time with Jetstar it's flight delays and quite strict in terms of weighing your carry-on luggage. If you can deal with those, go for it because after all, it's a budget airline.
I will be flying with Qantas on international next month. Will see how that goes. I'm quite excited.
You get what you pay for. Jetstar is a budget airline and I think some travellers expect 5 star service when pay minimal amount. I travel a lot and by using my phone app I can book, select my seat and checkin. Apart from delays I am a big Qantas fan
I really havent watched eric in a long time. Imma go back and watch his old videos for nostalgia
? ¿A qué te refieres?
You definitely got lucky and got one of the good Jetstar planes!!!! Some are so bad that the legs of even my 5’3” body hit the seat in front and don’t even attempt to move that tray table!
Honestly, i've only ever flown Jetstar. Of the 5 roundtrip holidays I have done, we only ever had one flight delay and that was due to a medical emergency. Plane was always clean, staff were amazing each trip and the seats comfortable. No complaints for me and would happily fly with them again. I will add, as someone with low vision, Jetstar's flight crew were very kind and helpful. They checked in to make sure I was okay throughout the flight process and I hadn't actually noticed that my ticket came with a $10 food voucher for each flight. They could have chosen to not mention it to me when they brought the food around but they showed me I had the voucher and read the menu for me as it was too small for me to read. Really, 10/10 service.
I’ve only ever flying Jetstar as well. Also it’s really ironic considering that I’m going to be flying from Melbourne to Gold Coast and I’ve already flown from Melbourne to Gold Coast so many times
Do Air New Zealand next. That unfortunately is the only airline owned in NZ, but you could compare it to Jetstar, who have some domestic NZ flights.
Thank u for that vid bc I’m from aus and I’m going on a 10 hour flight to Bali at te end of the year
My experience with Jetstar and Qantas, is that both has it's ups and downs in all areas of service and reliability. And in all honesty I don't mind both airlines, because I know what I'm getting when I fly with either of them. As for delays, well that's to be expected when you travel, whether it be by plane, train, boat, or bus, so I don't worry about it. And if need be make arrangements to travel the next day.
Worth noting that Qantas is the biggest domestic airline. They have check-ins in their international terminals but not domestic, because odds are if you live in Aus, you fly Qantas. So most people have the Qantas app which allows check in and boarding passes.
What a winger…….and be grateful for the good security too. Check in now days is mostly done in advance on your phone….you only need to use the kiosk if you want to check in a bag.
You are definitely pretty lucky because once I was meant to be back to my state by about 8pm but things got cancelled and delayed and we had to stay in the airport for hours, and got home about 12am. Then another time i was in the airport for 5 hours because of a DELAY. I cant remember if they were jetstar or qantas but yeah.
Australian here! Love the video qantas is definitely our best and Jetstar yes one of the worst but I fly with virgin airlines which is also Australian and there my favourite and so good maybe one day you could try them out too
As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Qantas Group, Jetstar Airways forms an integral part of the Qantas Group's two-brand strategy, operating in the leisure and value-based market. Our Australia and New Zealand based fleet comprises 76 aircraft.
Geez Eric, you have incredible patience
As someone who is going to be flying on Jetstar from Melbourne to Gold Coast, I see this is an absolute win
Jetstar is ok, not great, but defo not terrible. The problem is, it's not always cheap, far from it. If it had RyanAir prices, I think a lot of the complaints would just go away. Also, with the Qantas level of service having been drastically downgraded post-pandemic, it's difficult to distinguish between Qantas and Jetstar anymore, to a point where they are starting to compete with each other headon. And that makes a grand total of zero sense, as both are owned by the same corporate parent. Great video!
YOO thanks for going to Brisbane for that first flight my city
I just flew with Qantas last month and had absolutely no issues. I’ve also flew with Jetstar and never had any issues. Even Virgin Australia has been good but they’re the only ones that I’ve had a cancelled flight within like 4 hours of the departure time. But I was rescheduled on a flight the next day. Which wasn’t ideal. Also Jetstar is a budget airline. You can’t really be surprised that you have to pay extra for in flight entertainment and food.
In my opinion the leg room is amazing. I am 5’11 and it is perfect. It’s probably worse for you as you have a bag under the seat but if you were to stow it up your legs would easily fit under the chair and you can actually have room to move about. Also Qantas seats go back as well. Once you fly Jetstar more often you get worse and worse experiences like I remember flying back from Hamilton island we were flying jet star back to Melbourne with a stopover in Sydney however the flight was delayed for so long that we missed our connecting flight and we landed at the airport 20 mins before the domestic flights stopped for the day so we had to drive home from Sydney to Melbourne with no gift cards or anything which mind you is a 9 hour drive at 12 am
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! Jetstar isn’t half bad tho!
Last time I was supposed to fly Qantas, they delayed the flight twice then cancelled it. Our options were find somewhere to stay the night (at our own expense) or get on the provided mini van for an 4 hour road trip. Flight was an hr which is the whole reason I decided to fly. Instead of arriving at airport at 9 pm, it was 12.30am. No explanation as to why the flight was cancelled and no refunds on the flights…we didn’t take!
Yo Eric, you should do a Jetstar Asia Airways vs Scoot. The battle of Singaporean budget battle
The service is different in the northern part of Australia. Try a flight from Townsville to Mt Isa or Darwin even back to Brisbane.
Thank you for coming to Australia ❤
I went to Tokyo (from cairns) via Virgin... No in flight entertainment, wasn't even warned there was none. Seats were extremely uncomfortable too. No charging port for devices, on an 8 hour flight.
Aussie here. I think we're very lucky in our country to not have "terrible" airlines. I've flown all domestic airlines, and I've had lots of pleasant experiences for the most part. I think people poop on JetStar WAAAAAYYYYY too much. Yes, it's a budget airline, but they're pretty good in getting you from A to B, and any delays are usually warranted or necessary. Plus, you get what you pay (and sometimes more).
I see you included the names of the planes. Thanks!
