- Open All Hours
Season Two, Episode Six - 5 Apr. 1981
To the envy of Granville who has never attended one,Arkwright is taking Nurse Gladys to a wedding and has taken his old suit out of moth-balls, but it still reeks of camphor. Nurse Gladys makes him hang it out of the car window as they drive along but the trousers end up under a tractor's wheels. Thank goodness Nurse Gladys is wearing a trouser suit. - Zábava
This episode stands out as the one that has stuck in my memory and made me laugh the most. 😂😂😂❤
Massive fan with pure Comedy reciting the late Ronnie Barker and Sir David Jason.😊👍
One of the best ever!
The little old lady coming in seeing Arkwright holding the axe and leaving FAST!😂
A gem from 1981. Before my time, but beats anything made today
Roy Clarke knew how to write ! Not like today
@@craigslater2321 He made some great comedies! I love comedy but dont watch any made today
@@Greenpoloboy3 I agree 100%
I was 8 then
@@victoriasmith2512 Aw, I was 6. It was a sweeter time.
Mrs Blewitt/Norah Batty/Kathy Staff is my favourite customer in this series 😂 Thank you again for the upload.😊❤
Just found this, I'm Boston old guy and love the characters, the little cnr store, old fashion, different time. Thank you
i can still remember these sort of shops on the corner and open all hours
A master comedian and his favourite apprentice weaving their magic! Brilliant writing!
I would put up this comedy against any American comedy
Love the relationship between Arkwright and Gladys Emmanuel! They don't write female characters like Gladys anymore. She is more than a match for anyone without making too big of a fuss about it.
Not just her they dont make characters like the whole cast
Not just her they dont make characters like the whole cast
Plenty of us about in reality...
Isn't it wonderful that we can watch the reruns?? I love these shows
Couldn't agree with you more, she is lovely
Classic brilliance! Love this episode.
These shows are a stress reliever.
It’s great that so many of a younger generation have had the chance to watch some real British comedy.
It’s wonderful seeing the comments from a generation that can appreciate good humour and they can get an idea of what we were like back then, we are naturally offensive, it’s not with any malice, it’s just the way we are, we’re very sarcastic and witty, political correctness and cancel culture of today would most certainly find issues with this, it would be sexist, or racist, or something else.
Damn! am stuck fabulous series watching one after another....addictive and nostalgic
Ronnie Barker and David Jason can't get anyone like these no more good duo for this love the way Ronnie portrayed Arkwright brilliant
I think this must be my favourite episode. Fantastic show with brilliant performances. Thanks for uploading 👍🏼👍🏼🎉🎉😀😀
One of the best episodes I have ever watched.
Love this program. Absolute classic
So much funny in one place!
So many jokes and gags in this episode. Love it.
20:01 Gets me every time I watch this, I've even done an impression of this when I go to visit my friend lol
The trip to wedding is funny as hell 😂...It must be funny while they were shooting that scene..
I think that 'Gladys' was not acting, when smiling or trying not to laugh, at the close ups of her in the car, with Arkwright struggling with his trousers...
Love this series, before my time but happily watch this again and again!
Holy cow.. Fantastic episode 😂
Totally adore this comedy! 😆😆🤣🤣
Hilarious… 😂
They had me laughing constantly in those last 10 minutes!!
15:35 ... forever Nora Batty!
As an American we only saw certain British comedies. Now with the internet we can see the ones we never heard of like this series. I did watch Only Fools and Horses so I know David Jason and love his work. British humor is a bit different than American humor not so much ...in your face. I've always found this refreshing. Been watching British comedy for over half a century and I still love it.:o)
@** That's why most people in America have Netflix, Prime, HBO etc so they don't have to deal with commercials.
Me too, I love British television.
@@lewisbale1 Well hon, it's because we have good taste is how I like to think of it. lol I have found with Americans they either love it or hate it, no in between. If people don't "get" the point of reference be it British slang or event mentioned then the joke fails. Some of us lost our minds with Monty Python and others didn't find it funny at all. That was my first introduction to British comedy and I've been a fan ever since. Glad to meet another fan :o)
Try the young ones and bottom
@@craigobrien31 Thanks, I check out both. :o)
Enjoyed every minute ❤️😂🙏
Amazing that a comedy series could be so enduring even though it was based on just a few well worn jokes
Arkwright's extreme stingyness
His unrequited passion for the unattainable Nurse Gladys
And Granville's non-existent love life
It never got old 😁
The money/finger-grabbing till ... lol
@@SarahDeelicious and they never move that tumbling red tin from top of it ☺️
Good comedy never fails in time.
10:35 LOVE IT 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Wish we could say that today
I never tire of these, I laugh in all the same places every time!
9:39-9:45, funny every time.
All those locks on the door & it is just a glass (easily, silent cut into) door! but no doubt Arkwright could hear someone stopping to look at the windows ...
They missed an opportunity not having her be seen bent over smelling his pants! 😂 The optics from the passerby's point of view would have been priceless! 😄😁! I'll say again RB, & all involved in making this show were ahead of their time! Comedy gold! RB master of his craft! RIP 💝
Those two David Jason and Ronnie barker in the odd job is a good one
11:30 funniest part in any show. I've watched it time and again and still laugh about it.
Why don't they make something like this or yes minister anymore. Pure entertainment with loads of wit
I guess the closest modern equivalent would be The Office and Ricky Gervais's other shows. They did make a spin-off of this 2013 but I don't think it was very well received sadly.
There's a Canadian show about a Sth Korean shopkeeper called Kim's Convenience which is quite funny
The full epilogue at the end about nurse Gladys Emmanuel's pants and not one stutter. That's focus!
I just love the old English comedy I'm from an English family, I'm an big fan of Ronnie baker RIP. An Im also an big fan of David Jason I just the still open all hours
I sooooooooooooooo love open all hrs,i just crack up ronnie barker was like the benny hill of british comedy

That bit had me rolling 😂😂😂
a 90% glass door with 9 locks!!!
Locks on both sides of the door hinges side aswell
love them all from beginning to the new still open
They are ver ver ver very funny !!!!
I don't much like the new series; it's good that it continues on with Granville, but without Ronnie Barker, it just isn't the same. Still, glad that Mrs. Featherstone and Mavis are in it, that is something, at least.
harkeill Me either, exactly. Ronnie Barker brought the show together as he was a very clever actor. Also the humour isn't the same as times have changed and the innuendo and some humour wouldn't be acceptable even though it was harmless and funny.
Full movies
I love the way ronnie talks about his wood be mothing in law
Good enough for him 😜😀😜
Its a wonder that nurse gladys didnt give mr arkwright a right deck across the face for being cheeky naughty bugger
Morning mr bbbbristow
Very funny.
I woulud still use mothballs if I found them! I just keep finding those big discs of colored compression salts that so they say repels bugs! Not true! Tried them and watched them grow smaller each day with no use! 🤷🏻♀️
I am 80 years old,my Dad had a corner grocery shop,l did the deliveries on the bike after school
Sounds like a very interesting, fun life!
Impersonation of someone that's going to live forever🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣😂😂🤣😂😂this man was before his time no American are anywhere else for that matter can top him and some others out of U.K.

It's the Stig @ 9:12! Or some early form of it at least.
19 p for a tin of peas it's 20 p for a pee now
David Jason getting knighted and not Ronnie is criminal.
1:42 Make it 29! 😂
I know it’s a bit too late to wonder but did Granville and the milk girl ever make out ..also I’m glad our seeds were sold at Arkwrights store … Peter Sutton
“I wish you wouldn’t inflame me while i’m wearing these tight trousers; they’re still warm you know.”
Have you save me 1/2 a dozen of ...aaargh
Anyone notice when he opens the door as locks on both sides of the door
Very funny
Lol. I remember a long time ago having to use a sledge and the biggest chizel I have ever seen to remove the entire top of an oil barrel. Got 'er done one afternoon while my infant was being babysat. Lucky for me there was a "Tool Library" called my next door neighbor across the road who was a farmer. I had no me time back then. I do now. I am not in a hurry. People who are often in a hurry end up in an accident during the unexpected eh?
16:09 tea caaaaaake
very funny this
10:34 Oh Dear 😥
Not to do with skin colour its to do with Mr Bristol “dying”
1:41 That just looks ridiculous: Down from 29.5p to 29p.
Nothing over 1 pound.
Funny
Another very funny show, but I remember a time when I was in college and I was traveling with friends and that actually happened to one of my friends but it was much worse because he dumped at least a half a gallon of water on his thighs and everything else and he was soaked even through his boxers.. And the car seat. And yes he had his pants tied to the back of the minivan to dry.....
He was also seen in a parking lot , in his boxer briefs putting his Slack's on next to the car so I don't know where the producers got the idea for this episode,,,
but that actually happened for real,,
but the college girls, did not seem to mind at all they actually went a few columns over in this huge parking lot and stayed there until our car got together and then they followed us after we left the parking lot.....
Then much later when the day ended from the academic activity that we all had to go to me and my three friends went to a party at the sorority house and met the same girls
funny huh....... All because of the incident in the parking lot of him getting caught with his pants on from them drying on the back of the van as we were driving on the highway.
So, This crazy shit does happen in real life !
.
She allowed herself to have 19 kids she allowed herself to have a nervous breakdown more like
Lol
Pennies lol
Arkrights till
That Arkwright was so greedy and mean he gave poor Granville a horrible time
L like the old English tv show
10:37
Good for a Laugh
is this the episode from UK Gold that escaped the apology for out of date language/references?...😶😂
Absolutely fantastic comedy, just don't make them like this anymore.

BBC's small beard flied a Japanese fascists flag
Back when folks knew how to really act and REALLY knew comedy
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
