- Open All Hours
Season Two, Episode Three - 15 Mar. 1981
Whilst Granville moans about the shop opening at dawn Arkwright bewails his inability to sell a load of fig biscuits and toilet rolls imprinted with biblical texts. The opportunity arises when regular customer Mavis mistakes the sepulchral voice of Granville in the cellar for a ghost advising her what to buy but sadly for Arkwright he falls through the open trap door and breaks his leg. - Zábava
I'm from New Zealand and I have watched this over the years from being a child to now and I never tire of it or the other comedies in that era
Hi,yes I remember watching this in my younger years.stillbwatch it when I want a laugh 😂 , another kiwi here.
Kia Ora - me too! My parents used to love this show (and others of the era), and as a young kid I just thought was fodder for "old people". As an adult I realise how incredibly well-written these comedies were. It's great to be able to come back and watch them again... I appreciate the comedy itself and also the time in which they were written. There's nothing like nostalgia with a good laugh attached!
Steptoe and son is also great if you haven't seen them!
Same. I'm from the US and always had more affinity for these shows. Are You Being Served, Fawlty Towers, On the Buses, etc. Cheers!
Hard out
Great comedy never ages it matures like a fine wine.
Great comic actors are Loved and Never Forgotten, only need to think of Laurel and Hardy in that respect.
Open all Hours one of the finest comedy shows ever made. R.I.P Ronnie Barker ❤
That sheep dog is gorgeous, it reminds me of my grandmas sheep dog sweep! 😘😊
❤I love your chin
I could watch these over and over again ❤
I do, i listen to it at night whilst I drop off to sleep
I have been watching this great hidden gem of a show since I was very young, here in Texas. Even as a young kiddo, this show made me giggle with my grandparents and now in my 40's STILL watching and loving this show.
Another perfect example of comic acting genius from messers Barker and Jason.
YOU NEVER TIRE OF THIS HUMOUR ..🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Brilliant series and how far David Jason has come a great actor
One of my ffff favourite shows of all ttt time.
Open All Hours. The epitome of British humour, in the days when the BBC could produce truly funny and wholesome shows, unlike todays Woke rubbish.
Ain't that the truth. Todays BBC comedy is non-existent. The golden days of TV are gone.
Absoluty!
3rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl788
Just watch it and STFU with your whinging and whining.
Yeah, must be sooo hard for you old white geezers. Missing all the overt racism, sexism and misogyny really makes your lives a misery eh? 😂
I am an american, I first saw David Jason in the tv series only fools and horses when I was abroad, could not get enough of that show, found him again in the series "Darling buds of may sharing the screen with a very young Catherine Zeta-Jones, then saw him as a detective in the show A touch of Frost, And I just now came across this series on you tube. I love love love dry witty humor, sometimes I think I was born on the wrong side of the pond. I also came across tv series My family, loved it, all of the DR Who series, well all but the last one,Red Dwarf, Top Gear, Are you being served, Keeping up appearances, Last of the summer wine, As time goes by, MI 6, also Man about town, Mind your language ect there is a phrase I believe is british when I first heard it, I laughed my "arse" off, and have used it multiple times here, "somewhere some village is missing its idiot" oh that is funny, anyone remember when Del boy was dealing with a rude cashier and asks "did you sue them" cashier she asks "sue who" answer "the people from the charm school"
U sure Ur not british, love the way u correctly spelt arse. Have u seen Porridge? It's brilliant.
@@Rachel-ig2uq no have not seen porridge, but I definitely will search for it to check it out.
@@wcampbell1502 u will love it, Ronnie Barker says it's his best work. Also the two Ronnie's Four candles sketch, watch the man behind the counters reactions. . Please let me know what u thought of porridge if u watch it.
@@Rachel-ig2uq I did see a couple of episodes on youtube funny funny stuff, and saw a bit of its sequel "going strait" I love dry humor. so after seeing it on you tube I did the search on "the Brit Box" and it is there, THE Brit box is a streaming service which I would imagine you are already familiar with if you live in the US. Thank you for queuing me to it
@@wcampbell1502 I have to confess I'm useless with technology. I'm British so have them on DVD. I know I'm that old. One more suggestion then I will stop, STEPTOE AND SON.
Old BBC shows like this were incredibly well written, not just a joke on every page of the script like American comedy, but non-stop quips and wit.
American comedy is far better than this crap.
You're lucky to find wit in America on Whitsunday.
Well said. You can keep your new tv stuff. Nothing like the old British tv shows.
@@Camerasdontlie My father is a good friend and I love inbreeding on
@@Camerasdontlie I can not agree with you more, and this to coming from an American, It is so nice to be able to see a lot of these on youtube. "this bloke was chatting up a bird that led to snogging in her flat, he was trying to get a leg over, but had to leg it out of there as the lady's husband came home early", I have watched enough brittish programs to be able to put together this sentence.
When I have enough with today ' s world MADNESS , I like to take a break and see real comedy... For my soul& mind!😂😊
One of the best of British comedy classics, they never get old for me.
I never should have come home again to the States after my two years in England from ‘73 to ‘75. Look what I missed! I’ve never heard of this show so I guess PBS never aired it in my area. Now I’ll watch it, so all’s not lost. 😂👍
I'm in the States and I found this series two years ago, when I get sad I search for this, now it's always recommended. My precious!!
lionharehart There's a new series open all hours as well.
@@aled702 but you can't view it in the States. I've seen small bits of it. I love it, Leroy and his dalliances are very entertaining, as are the entire cast.
lionharehart Not the same without the late Ronnie Barker.
@@aled702 Are you trying to make me cry??

Favorite episode of OAH, every scene is a gem of great acting and writing!!
I can never get tired of watching shows like this. Truly, this is when TV was absolute magic and excelled on every angle.
I feel so homesick when I see the current times of now next to the times we lived many years back then, yesterday lives Forever!!!
I AGREE SO MUCH WITH YOU!!!
me to, i can smell that store almost like the corner stores of the 50s
wish we could go back. I thought of opening a small store here to much RED tape
I wasn't even born when this show was on but I can see the appeal. Funny storyline, interesting characters, just right for the duration. It doesn't advertise itself with over the top effects and try too hard with relevant talking points unlike today's popular shows. I watch this to relax. It's just a quiet and entertaining tv series. It must be nice when corner shops were the norm, they have a cosy feel about them.
@@jkssr1885 The one we had in our block always smelled sweet and fruity only it was mainly the smell of bubblegum I guess. Oh, I was so very young then and the shopkeeper would play a fish face to me pulling out his ears. Lol It was the 70’s then. I never forgot that shop and it took me by surprise finding a whiff of its smell in a box of Bonux laundry powder decades later.. the lemon one. Awe.. it was such a joy to me. I would open the box and breathe the air.. recreating the days gone by in my mind. 😌 If only…
Like, are you being served,a delightful memory of harmless fun, with great acting.
Ronnie barker David Jason two of the best comedy greats together super comedy .Unlike modern comedy this makes you laugh and want to watch over and over again “brilliant!
miss seeing little M.Gs, Triumps, Fiat Spiders, Porsche Boxters and on and on from the 70s, so much fun.
That sheep dog is soooo cute, I remember my grandmas sheep dog. 😍
It’s my childhood. Watching with my grandad. ❤
I watch this to get some sense of reality in this dystopian woke world we're forced to live in.💟
Good old days miss them so much, when programmes were so good it's funny really we only had few channels but so many great shows these days so many but no good shows thank you so sir Ronnie barker and to all those who are no longer with us god bless you all u sorely missed 🙌❤️👌😢
Playing them back to back. Each time I find something deeper in sense.. something approving.. something that fits a recent feeling or wave of misfortune or feeling of hopefullness or easiness .. like in a prayer. Quite relatable!
"Fig Biscuits" and "Inspirational Toilet Rolls", truly a Marriage of "Convenience".
" ... but he only got as far as Aldershot !" :-)
"Inspirational Toilet Roll!"
"L-louder Sir Jasper."
Dear david jason hes so funny god bless the late ronnie barker in heaven he was soooooo funny and so clever i loved him and ronnie corbett too very funny and very clever god bless both of them in heaven thanks to both of them for all the joy they brought me and everyone else too who has ever watched either open all hrs or the 2 ronnies or porridge for that matter granted ronnie corbett wasnt in porridge but the show was still funny nonetheless
I loved these English shows back then and now ❤❤🇦🇺🐨🐨🇦🇺
the sheepdog scene at 3:34 is so cute. one clever dog
I used to work in a shop like this when I left school, that was in 1961.
Mary Tunstall my family used to have a shop growing up in rural Ireland!
I worked in a sweet shop just like this in my home in Ireland for four years
Phorrrrr that Nenenurse Ggggladys Emmanuel Granville phhhhorrrr
We still have such a shop in our village. It exists since the 1870ies. The present owner took over from his father. He is 70 now and has no successor.
Our little village-shop is the center of our village. ONCE wie had two pubs, one closed years ago and the remaining one opens only at the weekends. About 350 people live in our village, situated 100 kilometers south of Hannover.
Aside from one episode, mom recorded all of these on VHS video from the tv. Some epic hours laughing. Reruns after reruns. Rest in Peace mom & Mr Arkwright.
❤
Your memory of your mom is a TV show? Sad.
@@Vincent-jl6vu Don't make TV your memories.
I did the same with the Virginian, an American western show and Northern Exposure. I had to put them away since the video player we had had broken and they are discontinued. 😞
@@fjccommish That's one of the cruelest and most idiotic things I've read in the past few months.
One of my favourite episodes ever! 😂 when he sings "inspirational toilet roll" in a monk chant is just a top scene 😂
they should have called it inspiration-roll
MIND YOU EVERY EPISODE WAS FANTASTIC & FUNNY
that sheep dog was beautiful when I was younger I always wanted one but never did but I’ve had many different kind of dogs over the years and loved them all so can’t really complain
I have owned 2, one was a lovely rescue and her cancer came back, she died a year after first giving her the home she deserved...The second was a beautiful boy puppy and lived a good longer life. Both had shorter coats than the one on here , keeping them clipped means they get a fuller life, otherwise they would always be in the bath and being groomed. Getting a cuddle from an Old English Sheepdog is phenomenal...you can't beat it. I miss them both! 😭😭❤️❤️
One of my favorites! When he hits that guy with his bike I laugh to the point of tears every time. 😂there are so many funny bits to this episode it’s hard to choose the best. From the car chase to wavy Mavis talking to the shopkeeper’s ghost. It’s timeless! ❤️
David Jason may not look twenty something but he does a convincing impression with all that energy.
Ikr, he's in his mid to late 30's and he looks at least 30, but he does pull of a convincing naive younger man somehow.
We don’t know that he’s meant to be twenty something - it’s implied he’s actually older but Arkwright never tells him his true age in case he asks for a rise! That’s why Granville always complains about wearing a pinny.
he would have been 40 or 41 here and was wearing a hairpiece on the back of his head as well
Found this seris and have been watching it over and over again even during the lockdown and Christmas time too. Thank you for putting these golden gems up for us. 😄
youre so welcome! glad you enjoy them.
Wish they had more. I watch this show every night b4 bed. (better than the blasted news)
if all else fails, watch Laurel and Hardy. It puts you in a good mood to go to sleep. Yes , I forbid my wife from watching the news before bedtime!!!!
Same!
Same!😊
Same
“....they call me Mavis”
The sheepdog stole the show 😁
We had the best comedy in this country when I was a child lots of hearty laughing love this can watch it over and over. love the video
One of my favorite episodes
I can't get over young Mavis and that hair'style'!!!🤭🤭❤️❤️❤️
I used to shave my booty with a comb
Brilliant… finding this made my afternoon… ❤
Love the scene where Wavey Mavey tells Arkright she had crossed the luncheon meat off her list after he walked all the way over, then Arkright puts a big cross with a texts on the tin. Inspirational comedy.
great scene and acting!
@@emmapasqule2432You look absolutely gorgeous. Have you ever had it up your R's Hole?
Absolute quality!
Big Girls Blouse, great saying.😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ber ber ber brilliant!
Comedy legends
*Mavis - is so real 👌🏻* …. Doesn’t even feel like she’s acting 🎭
They have such a cool relationship 😊
They talk and chat all the time about everything and uncle is always with ready wisdom for his day-dreamer nephew :)
Kathy Staff 😂👍
There was two corner Shops near to where I lived in Gelli Rhondda. One was owned by a Mr Candy and the corner shop we called Candy's and on the other side Was Peglars Corner Shop
Brilliant ,thankyou for posting😊
whatever David Jason is, it turns out to be hilarious and spectacular one!
takes me back to the corner shops when i was young , way back in time
Me, M, Me, M, Mee too !
ME TOO
HA -yesterday at the supermarket, I just purchased four packets of those same FIG ROLL biscuits @ 21:03 in what appears to be still the same packaging in 2023 - HA - I better check the use by date. Just had one - HA - all fine. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
Apart from loving this series i love spying out the old brands of foodstuffs & the prices are gobsmackingly cheap compared to what we pay now.
Also the cigarettes with their own brand packaging!
It made getting your correct brand 95% easier.
Since they have been in the same dark Khaki brown packs for the last half a dozen years i still get home & find my newsagent has given me the wrong brand.
Its so hard for him to read along the numerous same colour packs trying to read the brand name when the shop is full of customers!
Why they had to change the packs mystifies me.
Oh for those simpler days when we had a chance to buy food, heat our homes & have the night out once per week!
Things in Britain are dreadful these days, were the poorest nation in Europe!
Sigh!
Thank you for the video
Regards
🇬🇧👧
thank you for the upload its nice to see somebody putting on a whole episode instead of 3 mins
It never gets old.
The funniest scene in all of the episodes when Arkwright falls down the cellar.
British comedy. Best in the world
When Britain was still Britain, we had many advantages. One was being able to laugh - and often at ourselves.
Granviiillle!
Our life is short 😂. I remember I watched this for the first time in Australia and I’m still watching in Australia and laughing but I Love “Mind your language “😂. “Mind Your Language “ is the best👍👍👍
My alltime favorite scene Arkwrights fall down the cellar👌😁
SO NICE I WATCH THEM EVERY DAY.
"She's had him for years."
"I suppose he's had her, as well."
😄😄😄
One of me favorites, and that brass band at the opening still makes me laugh when I hear it ..... knowing what was coming up for the program after that! Arkwright tending shop some place where the 'til never grabs a finger.
Back when comedies were actually funny!!!
Coffin over the bread goes down well with a nice greasy spread of dripping, Morning germs & bacteria to start the day
Simply the best !!
OMG, that till 😂😂😂
(I worked one nearly identical long time ago. I didn’t like being alone with it 😳)
I think the guy that drives the sports car after Granville tooting his horn, makes an appearance in a later episode as the Supervisor/boyfriend of Granvilles love of his life, the milk delivery lady...when Granville gives her flowers and he shoves them back at Granville.
3:33 always get me, so cute, that one good dog
Brilliant: " I' give you one large tin and charge for two small ones"😂😂😅
The guy fixing his car is the spit of my dad 😆
There are no situation comedies that come close to this today. The true test is the test of time. This, Porridge, Fawlty Towers never seem to age. Only Fools and Horses came close on times.
One of the classics why can't they make sitcoms like this anymore? Only fools n horses' Rising damp, Porridge, Steptoe and son, Till death us do part, Last of the summer wine and Dads army. All we get now is never ending cooking programmes and so called celebs dancing on ice rubbish.
Was Ronnie Barker in anything at all (from The Navy Lark onwards) where he didn't give a 100% professional performance? He was good.
Like him in this? Watch Clarence - a comedy he wrote himself about a removals man with poor eyesight who falls for a housemaid just after the First World War. That. Is. Hilarious.
@@EditorOfSL yes it was. Yet is seldom remembered yet I md it hilarious as well.
That sheep dog's adorable. >w
I love all those people that come in through
through the door, coughing and spluttering
on the comestibles in the shop. They are
hilarious, especially the man who
coughs all over the bread display.
I also love the "Dulux" Dog that comes
in. carrying a big basket with it's order
in. Hilarious. !!!!!!!!!
Bilko
I love it when Arkwright falls through the trap door - hilarious !!!
Mind you, doesn't David Jason do something similar when
he was in Only Fools and Horses as Del Boy, when him and
Trigger (Roger Lloyd Pack) were trying to impress a couple of
young women at a local bar and he fell through the space that
was left after the barman opened the top of the counter he had
previously been leaning against !!!??!!!
This was equally hilarious and also one of the most famous scenes in
it. The other one being the episode where they are cleaning the
chandileir, and it crashes to the ground.
I love that Sheepdog.
How they got it trained
to carry a shopping basket
into the store, sit down and
wait whilst Granville went
through it's shopping list,
and then carrying said
shopping home again, I
will never know.
Brilliant !!!!
It is Benjy from "Yes Prime Minister".
great episode.
Remind our Granville in future to keep his trap shut
25:56 "You wouldn't get this sort of economic training anywhere in... AAARGH!"
I've said similar " Why does someone have this thing about workers starting so bloody early "
Yet the office lot ,no so. The mail office 9.00 am , the Bank 9.30 am.
Was born in the 2000s but shouldve been born in like the 50s better than today I'll tell you that for facts
2000s not much fun for us born in or before the 50s either 🤷🏼♀️
14:59 That scene is so funny. 😂
An utter classic 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
So many wonderful laughs ` delited
Why does everything cost £1 !!!!!!! Love the shows, a classic
That.. Must have hurt >.> when Granville hit the guy with his horn
Love these guys they are so funny 😂🤣 Thank you 👋👋♥️
tongue in cheek at its best innuendo brill
Funny! And the future Inspector Frost!
Brilliant as ever!
I now watch still open all hours
Is it on your list? Yes but lve crossed it off! Love Mavis
As it was playing!!!!
I'd totally fa fa forgotten about this show until I found this vid just by chance lol. I think the last time I saw an episode was 1980'something. Those were the days of awesome tv for the whole family.
