    Squats with your knees over toes may be okay for body weight / balance squats, but regarding squatting heavy weights with your knees over your toes - I’ve been warned by several different people not to do this. Not sure why TBH - maybe balance and not messing up your knees. Something to be cognizant and careful of.

      @InspirationalSkiing  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for sharing this tip, Norm Ferguson. What you suggest is definitely a fun exercise and a great challenge! I do it myself sometimes and love it. I will add that people should choose an easy not too steep slope for this and that they should not go too wild to begin with. Then as they get used to the quick movements, they can push more and more for quicker and quicker turns within their capabilities. Have a nice day! /Janus

    I am learning the wedge stop (super beginner). My issue is that my right ski wedges, and digs in properly, but my left leg does not. Instead of stopping, I turn to the right. Do you have an exercise you can recommend to strengthen my left leg and ankle, or do you think the issue is elsewhere??

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing  Před 3 lety

      Sounds awesome that you have begun your skiing journey, Mike Roberson.
      I am not sure I understand it correctly? If your right ski digs in and your left does not, I would expect you to go left since the right ski - and the direction it is pointing (left in a wedged position) - would be dominant and determine the direction.
      Anyways, as a super beginner I think it is most likely that your issues could be solved primarily by working on your technique. We have a few videos for super beginners, that you might want to check out.
      One thing you could try is to make your snow plough wider while keeping your tips fairly close.
      For strengthening the ankles, I like to do exercises on a wobble board. It will practice balance and awareness in your ankles as well, which also helps your skiing.
      I hope this helps. /Janus

    Start easy, with an extra skinny girlfriend, then progress your squats to unlock extra buff girlfriend.
    But in all seriousness, are these exercises taxing on your knees, or can they strengthen your knees if done correctly?

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing  Před 3 lety +1

      Haha, that is hilarious, Serban Uciu!
      All these exercises are also meant to strengthen your legs in general. How taxing they are for your knees depend on your specific situation. Not all of these variations will be right for everybody.
      Always listen to your body, when trying new challenging exercises and stop if you experience pain or something feels wrong.
      In general, I recommend that you start out easy (as you also suggested) and then progress to more difficult variations or add some resistance for example with weights to build extra strength, as you improve.
      I should also say, that you should always consult your physician or personal trainer before engaging in a certain training regime or new exercises, to get a professional to assess if they are right for you - especially if you have any physical issues, past injuries etc. that might call for a workaround or specific exercises to best fit your situation.
      I hope this helps! /Janus

    What do you mean you don't have any snow ? And Greenland? What about it? There is nothing but the snow :)))

    • @InspirationalSkiing
      @InspirationalSkiing  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for your questions, Ziggy Matuszewski!
      You are totally right about Greenland - there is a lot of snow and they have some amazing mountains as well.
      Unfortunately, I haven't been there (yet). And most Danes haven't since it is pretty far away and expensive to go there.
      Although Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, it is its own administrative division which means that they in many ways function as their own country. I would love to visit Greenland to ski and get to know the culture of the indigenous people more.
      In the country (not the Kingdom) of Denmark, we rarely have any snow, and definitely no mountains, only small hills. We can have several winters in a row without any snow or very little snow that melts almost instantaneously.
      However, this winter we actually had some snow (5-20 centimeters) that stayed on the ground for a few weeks, which was awesome! And something that happens to this degree maybe every tenth year or so.
      We also uploaded a video documenting a bit of skiing on the Danish hills. And I actually had some amazing experiences skiing in Denmarks this winter. You can check that out under our uploaded videos.
      I hope this clarifies :))) /Janus
