JACK WHITE - FEAR OF THE DAWN / 2022 / THIRD MAN / ALTERNATIVE ROCK
7/10
Y'all know this is just my opinion, right? - Hudba
Jack White is at a point is in his career where he’s doesn’t have to prove himself anymore and can let his creativity be as wild as he wants, especially since Boarding House Reach. I love Fear of the Dawn and can’t wait for his next album in a few months!
In a few months? What?
Wait a few months!!??
I’ve always thought the “doesn’t have to prove anything” line was a nice way of saying the artist is now so loaded they are just making records for themselves and if people happen to like it that’s cool too.
totally agree. this album is one of my favorite releases of the year so far
@@matthewmorelli5611 hes making an album "entering heaven alive", its coming out in july
Can we appreciate Jack White using a Korg Miku pedal on into the twilight and it actually working?? I’ve tried that pedal it’s a fucking joke
I head it and knew what it was instantly. I wasnt even mad...
I called it the animal crossing part lol, now i know what it was
I’m glad it wasn’t just me who noticed that it was mad
It just made me think of animal crossing so I loved it
@Perverted Alchemist haven't even heard the album yet, but as soon as I head melon sing "into the twilight" I recognized it from Manhattan Transfer. That song is fantastic and underrated so I'm definitely going to give the album a listen now. Very cool of Jack to use them as a sample.
Dude seen Jack White a week ago at our hometown and it was the best experience I've had in years. Jack White and his band fucking killed it. The energy was at a million right from the start. And yes, I probably pulled a muscle in my neck and needed about 4 days to recover from all the dancing and jumping I was doing. This is all because of how great the music was. Jack White puts on a hell of a show and he will go down in history as one of the greats. If you can see him live, I can't recommend enough to see him on this tour. Oh and I got to witness him marrying Olivia Jean on stage. Amazing evening that I will always remember. I give this album a 9. Thanks for the review
Hell yea dude I’m seeing him Tuesday I’m hype as fuck
I remember seeing him on tour for Boarding House Reach. He is a force to be reckoned with. Can concur it was the most amazing live show.
thats awesome to hear!! it makes me really excited to see him live someday, just hope he comes to [[REDACTED]] again soon, last time was 2015
my dad was there!!
I saw him two nights ago. Was insane. That drummer is nuts
Jack White is na example how modern rock should be Explored/created. It's not a mainstream genre anymore so why not just have some fun with it by making something extraordinary but catchy and groovy at the same time
This. Some newer punk acts are getting close to that but punk bands never wanna step too far outside of punk
How should something be, or rather how people want to play music? I don't think these two things necessarily have to be connected. Music should be a form of art. However, music can be used as a form of therapy. We have music as an art, which can give us an escape from reality. And, my friend, that's why you have people who will play music all night for hours, and not because they are a drunk and they are getting high, but because they have no better way of coping with the way they see their reality. I'm not saying that people are like that, but sometimes it takes a form of art to get you to a good place in yourself. A lot of people think the way they feel, or the way their reality is, is the way the world is. They feel like this world is an alien place, so they don't understand it. That's why it takes a form of art for them to be able to see things in a different light, or to have them see things in a different light. That's where music comes in. You can hear a song and hear the words and then you have a sense of closure. Then, at the end of the song you have closure. I feel like you have to go in with an open mind, and once you have that closed mind you'll never have anything else.
@@boejudden9011 We need another Clash lol
Why do you think King Gizzard is loved
It’s a pretty mainstream genre tbh with you, considering you have acts like Ghost basically peaking right now and selling #1 albums, delving to far into pointless experimentation is what killed jazz, don’t repeat the mistakes of the past, genres can be innovated with over complexity
This album was fun as hell
I'll honest, this was the first time I've loved a Jack White album since Icky Thump. His previous solo efforts didn't really grab me (also, not really into The Raconteurs or Dead Weather), but after a couple of listens, I feel this album flows really well into each other and feels more cohesive. It's definitely more accessible than Boarding House, and frankly, I'm relieved the entire album has no real weak spots. I was also listening to A Tribe Called Quest albums recently and was pleasantly surprised that Tip was featured.
That's weird because there are lots of hints/inspirations drawn from TDW and Raconteurs, glad you like it as much as I do - can't stop listening!
I was thinking exactly the same thing, ever since Icky I’ve been waiting for something with that X factor and this new album finally hits the spot, sounds fresh and weird, many surprises, great sounds etc It still doesn’t touch the rawness of the WS’s but it’s something I’ll go back to.
Fear of the dawn is Jack Whites children of the grave.
Also I haven't given a shit about Jack in a while but this is super creative and weird. I think boarding house reach had to happen for this. This is the album where the experiments came together in a new way.
Definitely a very unique record. It's like stoner- kraut-rock.
Hi-de-ho has no right to be as good as it is
Its good but its not excactly "Stairway to Heaven" by Machine gun kelly
@@gavatundejr4986 Yea but that's such a high bar to reach that I can't be mad
IT'S STUCK IN MY HEADDDDDD
goes real hard
Having Q-Tip is practically a cheat code to make it great
Just saw him and his band in Nashville. He opened the set with the first three tracks from “Fear the Dawn”, and it was amazing! He’s a consummate showman, and matched this creativity with an amazing light and graphics show. Overall, he’s taking the crown as today’s best live rock performer. 10/10-highly recommend.
After Melon putting Taking Me Back in worst tracks of the week I was expecting him to take a giant shit on this album. This album is fucking great and was such a fun listening experience. Album of the year so far for me. I love the guitar work and Jack White keeping things fresh after all these years and I can't wait to buy it on vinyl.
Aint no way this is better than the new BC,NR
@@tommybeurmann9945 they might not have listened to it
@@rickmcthicc3500 hope so
He didn’t rate it worst he rated it meh
@@tommybeurmann9945 Hard agree. This album is fun but the new BC,NR album feels like its gonna stay for a long, long time.
One of the most fun and entertaining albums I’ve listened to in a while
Exactly
Indeed.
How does Jack have the ability to make Fantano hate his lead single at first for him to then come around on and eventually love TWICE
I think it’s the CoD thing that made me dislike Taking Me Back at first, like I didn’t listen to it after it came out and then this album dropped and it just cropped up again as a fucking banger
Good observation :p
@@N0-0n3 I totally agree, CoD for some unknown reason made this track at first listening much more basic than it actually is
shit Anthony *does* like kpop
Bring Me The Horizon also has this power
Shedding My Velvet is for sure my favorite, I love a good layered instrumental with drums that slap like those, then have it slowly build too? MMMMM. Hi De Ho is a bop too
Not in a million years I'd have guessed a Hatsune Miku feature on a Jack White song.
My album of the year so far 9/10.
Can't wait for Anthony to tell us how underrated this album is when the next one will be out
Absolutely my favorite of his solo work, and among my favorite albums he's ever done. It hits hard, it's weird and uncompromising, and it is so tight and focused. I'm amazed at how youthful and energetic it feels. It feels like a culmination of his creative output up to this point, condensed and turned into a bigass laser gun.
One of the most exciting rock albums of the year. No doubt about it
He sounded like he was going to give an 8, this deserved yellow flannel tbh
I very much enjoyed this record and it's kind of exciting to me that "taking me back" has grown on you the way it has. I notice the same thing happened with "connected by love" when that song came out.
Good review, love this album, love Jack.
Just saw him live. Incredible.
you know the album was good when “what’s the trick” is his least favorite song
Makes sense Q-Tip is here since Jack was on the last ATCQ album, he also had been covering their songs live which is how he connected with Tip. Interesting collab and maybe they will do more in the future.
I could just not get into this at first and I've usually loved most of his stuff, but it keeps calling out to me and I can't stop thinking about it and inevitably put it on.
Some of my favorite bands/albums have gone through the same process so I guess Jack knocked this one out of the park.
I knew I was gonna like this review I recently got into Mr Jack through your TND-uplee reactions of Taking Me Back and Hi De Ho absolutely loved those singles and they honestly made me a fan of White.
Like Isaid in the Injury Reserve and Knocked Loose reviews u put me on them and I fell inLove keep up the recommendations and reviews: With lovefromafan all the way frm Africa south of it
Such a good album, loving the positive comments.
Also, I can’t stop listening to “into the twilight”
The most fun I've had listening to an album in a while. Def gonna go for a second listen
it gets better every listen
Wow! U tellin me you’re gonna listen to an album twice? You must REALLY like it
this comment really says a lot about the state of music consumption nowadays
I like what he does with compression on this project. I like this LP much more than his previous 2. This thing rocks
I was very presently surprised by how much I loved this album. So much of Jack's solo output has been 50% bangers, 50% honky tonk saloon rock. Imo. Definitely a good listen.
This album is heavily influenced by Black Sabbath and I’m here for it.
I'm still figuring the whole thing out but overall I think it's pretty excellent. Those first three songs are unreal (even though they make me want to go listen to HEY WHAT before proceeding to Hi-De-Ho). I think this is a grower, and even though it's a 7 now it could creep up to EOY list territory for 2022. Would love to see these performed live; they must RIP!
@Chris Black You mean Hey What from Q-tip?
@@victorj1415 Haha, no I was thinking of Low (although now I'm going to have to go dig up some Q-Tip I haven't heard).
I’m a huge Jack White fan. I was a little hesitant about Boarding House Reach but it has some good tracks. This album, however, I absolutely loved. I cannot wait for his next one later in the year.
I love this album lol, it's so werid and shouldn't work and I've listened to it like 6 times in a row. It's probably top 5 of the year so far for me, pretty solidly.
Had the biggest grin when listening to this for the first time. It’s bizarre, groovy, silly, wholly original. It’s like he adopted Burroughs’ cut up technique and applied it to any and all ideas he had. White Raven is almost electroclash.
Saw this one live, and have it on vinyl, and I gotta say, its one of the only albums I’ve ever repeatedly listened to back to back in order, its just so fun! And some of those sounds in for example the white raven are just incredible!!
This album is really awesome, 8/10 for me. I love the instrumentals and the whole album flows so smoothly. Probably one of the best rock albums of the past couple of years.
Loved this album. Absolute joy to listen to
It's amazing how much having Taking Me Back go right into Fear of the Dawn made the former click. Unreal start to the album, so damn good
Wow, I really prefer this A LOT over Boarding House Reach
A 9 for me, this album kept me guessing what Jack would do at every turn, but still sounding more sharp, refined and exciting than BHR
But I'm glad Melon still enjoyed it tho
I still can't believe the Seahawks threw the ball
You gotta move on king
😂😂💀
I really liked this album! This is the first I've heard of Jack white and will defiantly check out some of his other stuff.
"Hey Jack, how much guitar compression should we put on this one?" "ALL OF IT"
Love this album. Into The Twilight is probably my favorite. That William S. Burroughs sample about cut ups hits so fucking hard considering the sample heavy and chaotic sound pallette.
"You cut into the present, the future leaks out."
Absolutely blown away by this record, can't say enough good things about it. Hearing the first track I was like: okay, yeah, kind of the James Bond-track ballpark.
But then it draws you in and does a lot of weird twists and turns that are just incredibly enjoyable. It's playful, joyous and loud, but also very balanced.
How mr. Fantano can't appreciate 'Eosophobia' is beyond me... I've been playing that track over and over and over...
Just Picked It Up.... Looking Forward To Listening!!!!
Love Jack’s new direction, his ability to make even this insane art still somewhat accessible is a testament to his songwriting ability. Also the fact he actually plays these songs live is insane
Loved this album! Unfortunately, I haven't warmed up to Boarding House blues yet but this one is a fun and replayable album for me. So many noises mashed together and yet it never feels messy nor unneccesary.
I have been a life long fan of all Jack’s projects turned away a little after Boarding house reach but this album truly gripped me back in I love it
Into the Twilight is a tune - The Manhattan Transfer samples work so well
Been waiting on this video all week
Stoked for the billy woods review
Thanks for such a great review. Huge fan of anything Jack touches and this will probably end up being my album of the year. Some reviewers are saying this album is too strange and I feel disappointed in them because I don’t find this album that strange compared to countless amount of albums and artists out there.
excellent album. can't wait to see him live this summer
Your reviews are always dope bro 👌
I don’t buy albums anymore because of Spotify. But this album was the one I’ve been most excited to listen to in a long time and I wasn’t disappointed. Such a cool album and I think I’ll buy a physical copy just because I think Jack earned it!
Imo this album was a 9/10, and BHR was a 7/10. I really enjoyed him still being experimental but also having more structure this time around. A lot of zappa & cap't beefheart inspiration and shedding my velvet is the best song he's released in years to me. Saw him live in Cincinnati Wednesday and it was absolutely a banger of a show. 9.5/10
I agree with your scores, BHR was cool and novel but I feel that Fear of the Dawn has more re-listenability for me personally. Those riffs are gonna keep me comin back lol
I couldn’t agree more. I’m seeing him Sunday night in Boston im pumped
You would give him a 10 if he was Jack Black
Wait it isn't, holy shit jack white is not jack black I was thinking about the latter and wondered if his music is acutally good, it makes more sense
@@user-qo4ym5ew8t Jack Black and Jack White should do a collab album called ‘The Grey Album’
Visited his Nashville joint last week and it was amazing. Just like this new record. Yes record. Can't thank him enough for giving rock a kick in the ass. Even recorded my song in the store. So darn cool. Thanks Jack.
I totally loved this album and I am not so much a fan of his other stuff. The embellished chaotic cacaphony of blues, rock, & raw vocal power just hit different on this one!
Reviewbrah would've given it a 10.
I would like a review of Kavinsky's Reborn and/or a redo of Outrun which I think you were particularly harsh considering how it influenced the 80's/synthwave sound.
I loved this and boarding house reach, blunderbuss was okay. im finding myself thinking of jack as one of my favourite artists lately which I did not think would happen before I listened to BHR
my dad was good friends with jack white for their child hood, went to school together, stayed at each others house’s. anyways my dad went to a jack white concert with his girlfriend and him and jack didn’t get to see eachother but he thought it was cool.
Feels like Jack is in a very good place right now as he dreams anything he wants into existence. Third Man Records makes him a real life Willy Wonka style creator.
saw him live in michigan about a week ago. he was amazing.
Loving it so far from the start to finish. Pretty solid album. Like the nocturne vibe of this record.
Was really something else seeing him live last weekend in Detroit
To me this is a strong 8/10 with Hi-De-Ho and What’s the trick being the highlights for the record
Anthony, you should review Prince Daddy & the Hyena's newest record. I think you will like the vocals on this one better than their last record.
Love it, Jacks solo albums are progressively becoming more out there and more exiting.
I love seeing Jack White's creativity develop more and more with each album he releases, it's refreshing and inspiring.
He's definitely channelling the Beefheart inspiration these last few years.
Review the Daniel Rossen album dude
I can't remember the last time a album made me laugh out loud just from sheer enjoyment, such a fun ride
My favorite of his solo records since Blunderbuss. Love that he doesn’t give a fuck anymore and let’s his creativity shine
Bro "what's the trick" is for me the best track ☠️
Melon, Hi-de-ho is new school big band energy. Silly, self deprecating, innocent, warm and undeniably danc-y. Perfect antidote for the era we’re in. I can’t stop playing it. 💙
hey needle drop I love your videos and your personality is great however I have an idea for something you could review if you could please do a video on flex entertainment I swear if you think angelic 2 the core is bad...
the first two tracks a straight fire
Almost time for some new music friday action see you there MELON!!!
Have you done anything on the band Nothing? The Great Dismal and Tired of Tomorrow are fantastic
Great review.
This album surprised me, I love how fresh it sounds. Bravo!
Suggest Monodrone - forbidden fruit. It has been my favourite for months now, thanks to CZcams suggestions
RAMONA PARK BROKE MY HEART???
Esta buena la rola con Q-Tip trae un mood muy blue.
Pleasantly surprised to see Taking Me Back in the favorite tracks section after being put in the worst section of the weekly track roundup when it came out. 7 is a good score for this
Bought this album along with a few other on a whim. The other being the new spoon album. Love them both.
It's a brilliant album. Unfortunately I prefer the sound on lazaretto and blunderbuss over BHR and FOTD but the latter is an improvement in every way for me. Into the twilight and hi de hi are all time classics
I love those both too...Hypocritical Kiss, all of it..But I'm loving this too.Just love his guitar style..
The ad for this album made me start listening to Jack.
Jack made another excellent LP and I really liked your review Anthony!
I feel like this album is the Amnesiac to the Kid A that was Boarding House Reach. Like, a lot of this is still in the same vein of experimental rock music, but it just lacks a cohesion that the previous project did, as if these were the rejects from the previous project (even though I know that's not the case).
You should check out the most recent release from the British band Rolo Tomassi, "Where Myth Becomes Memory" :)
You should do a review on the new billy woods album-aethiopes
The new issue of MOJO mentioned he was briefly living in kalamazoo where I live- he came into my local record store satellite records -- my friend who works there said he bought an expensive Gene Vincent Album -- and oh yeah I love this Album..
From some of the lyrics and the cover I'm pretty sure this album is very much influence by the show Midnight Mass, idk if anyone else got that impression
3 minutes into this video and I'm just gonna listen to that album now bc im interested already
Have you ever heard of French Tech Death band Gorod? I find them very innovative and I think you should really check Maze of recycled Creeds Album, I'd like to see your take on it :)
I did listen to the album, and while no single track really stood out as a favorite, I definitely was able to let the whole album play out from start to end without interruption, and I think that is an accomplishment in and of itself. I'll certainly give the album another listen.
Bought Vinyl and CD version. Totally worth to have the album in every format.
what vinyl variant did you get?
@@alezf9813 Got the classic black one, but I consider buying the blue one.
@@MCJKofficial you should if you can, it's sick
@@alezf9813 Thanks bro. Will definitely buy the blue one. Nice to hear you like it.
Hi-De-Ho it's a power mantra! Massive record, Mr. White is channeling Hendrix and his guitar it's a magic wand!
