Honestly a pretty based move.
Dbrand knows how the internet works. The people who would only by first party, are now going to be exposed to dbrands version. No one who was going to buy the dark plates is going to buy the Sony one
Honestly, though. If dBrand had sent Linus their side-plates after Sony's were put, how different would this video really be? They know they will get compared so make sure their brand will be front and centre for a competitor's review.
Plus they got the "even if you buy those guy's side plates you can add our light strips" angle added in.
It's kinda their whole marketing level, if you didn't visit their website so far, I highly recommend doing it, it's just full with memes and all kinds of other very "unconventional" stuff
It meant that like 50% of the video on sonys plates was actually looking at d brands plates or light strips
I love the shape of the DBrand plates, but was way more interested in the Cosmic Red color and ended up getting those because DBrand's color options were boring.
Agree with the color choice, but I went DarkPlates 2.0 because i like their Shape and the additional Ventilation. And I love my PS5 Blacked out lol.
I got the 2.0 darkplates but just sanded them and airbrushed mine.

I still think it's outrageous that they got a PATENT for the SHAPE of the PS5 plates. With that logic it would be illegal to make replacement handles for doors because the handle shape is "owned" by the manufacturer.

I dont own anything dbrand, but seeing their relationship with LMG is beyond hilarious and makes want to buy something from them
the leather skins are amazing, rest is just glorified plastic imo (the skins, cases are great too)
I don't skin my stuff, and there is basically nothing from them I want, but, when I clear modded my OnePlus 6 I did buy a MacBook Air trackpad skin and used it to make my battery red.
they are an awful and hilarious company. at one point they sold 15x15x15cm cardboard boxes with a print "I had $5, now I have this box" for $5. It was meant as a joke but they sold like 5000 units or something and they actually had to contract a larger manufacturer to get them made :D It's so stupid, so wasteful, but it's also just kinda funny.

I got the OG Dbrand collar plates. Quality is amazing, they sent me 2 extra skins as well because the shipment was delayed (to Australia). They also sent me an apology email preemptively and kept me informed even though I didn't ask them anything. Really genuine down to earth brand. Very gamer vibes as well.

They can play spiderman or ratchet & clank on ps5 while also playing minecraft and roblox on a pc. I doubt they're modding minecraft either.

The colour differences you are talking about are called metamerism. Two different colours can actually look identical under one lighting condition and completely different under another lighting condition. You probably didn't see huge differences because of your studio lighting (full spectrum and quite close to incandescent lighting or sun light), but cheaper LED lights might completely shift the tone of the plates compared to the controller.
And also how we interprete the colour varies. Just remember the blue-black/white-golden dress.

I like the Cosmic Red a lot, but I love the shape of the DBrand covers, it just blends perfectly with the console, unlike the original's.

You could put them together in the shape of an empty PS5 shell as some kind of poignant artistic statement about people not being able to get the PS5 thanks to scalpers. =p
Don’t bother buying the plates. You can buy a can of spray paint for a few bucks and get the exact same effect.
EDIT: Forgot that Dbrand plates are a different shape than the Sony ones, so I guess for some people that could be the more important factor. Still not worth the money though IMO

I’ve got the black dark plates 1.0 and the same retro gray 2.0 plates. Personally the 2.0 plates are where it’s at. It considerably improves the look of the console. I hated the “fins” on the standard plates.

I'd totally buy dbrand's dark plates if they would've went with perforations over the circa 1998 PC rear fan cutout design for the intakes. Some nice sweeping design with holes that get bigger over the top of the fans where they're needed and kind of shrink and fade as they get further away. Plus clear and smoked dark plates, show off those light strips.

I've had the Dbrand dark skin for over a month now and love it. the black on black looks super clean, the light strips were simple and easy to install. The extra airflow is also just great.

I love the discrete color and look of the dbrand cover, looks more industrial yet subtle, I would say it can fit in any room. But the cosmic red looks good too, I used to have a red PSP back then. But its too flashy for me now, mainly cause I'm older.

@@mahfudzk You can't buy just the light decals, I just checked. You need to buy it along with the decal that covers the black part of the PS5 and it ends up being like $25 before tax and shipping.
DBrand understands marketing to the ~27 and below population. They are funny, a little rebelious and they know if we really think about buying a product we are gonna check it out online first.

DBrand really knows the customers well! Nice products, nice instructions, nice services, and mocking with LMG back and forth, and sponsoring competing products.
I bought one of their skins for my ultra fingerprint prone laptop, and for something that I still think is objectively rather expensive, that was an extremely satisfactory purchase.
I still think their dark plate 2.0 makes the PS5 look much more sleek and appealing. If I ever become interested in PS5, I'd want my PS5 to look like that.
I am forever thankful that dbrand sells matte black strips to block the light completely.

Dammit, this marketing worked on me. When I do get a PS5 I am definitely going through dbrand first before Sony. The vents, the more contained design, plus the pattern work on the colour choice, sounds the better option.
When you do, make sure to add an obnoxious request, you'll be surprised.
I personally think the vents are ugly and would go with ps5s plates but to each their own cooking is better with dbrand that’s where they win but looks wise I think somy takes the cake the vents personally to me look tacky

I have the cosmic red mixed with the while cover and like it a lot. I am waiting for the other color covers to come out. I am wanting the blue one next. These covers are very nice, unlike the junky replicas that were out and I bought one. They were a pain in the butt getting the other covers on and off. The new PS5 covers go on and off so easily it isn’t even funny. Very well made Sony and I hope for a couple other options in the future like green, orange even Yellow as a couple future choices people wish they’d come out with.

I've only just got my ps5 and so no rush to upgrade [apart from a Samsung 980 pro ssd ]but was impressed by the extra cooling vents ob the dbrand .Was surprised they only have covers for the ps5 with a slot for discs and not my digital version
