In this video i look over all the best PS5 Faceplates and Matte black PS5 plates on the market, take you through the dbrand darkplates unboxing, the CMP shells unboxing, and the PS5 knockoff faceplates. These are all 3rd party PS5 shells. I give you a first impressions, then show you why there's no Dbrand PS5 Skin. I also go over other customization options you can put on your PS5! Like the Classic PS logo on your PS5.
The custom PS5 game is still relatively new, and I want to be able to show you the best PS5 mods available right now. CMP Shells ($50) was known for being the first, also known as the Platestation 5 (But had to rebrand for obvious reasons). The second was the Dbrand darkplates ($65) which is the best PS5 shells on the market right now. There's no Dbrand PS5 skins, as they didn't believe it would work for their customers. Lastly, the Chinese knock off PS5 shells ($28) are the worst of the bunch. One came damaged, and the other didn't arrive at all, unfortunately.

They probably don't have the PlayStation logo because it is copywritten so including it would make them in violation of the copyright so they could end up being sued by Sony.
They literally put this text on their website; "Go ahead, sue us." on their PS5 Darkplates page.
They are the master of jokes and puns in general as a company.

@@proxyhx2075 yeah....and yet still they dont put the PS logo or any Sony logo on there because despite their "go ahead sue us" they are very well aware and afraid that Sony could actually indeed sue them up their asses if they would put any copyrighted logo on there. Despite their product quality they act like wannabe edgy teenagers.

They tried to kill the PS Vita multiple times but then let go past year. Now they attacked innocent people that were still using the PS Store on the platform itself and the PS3. They completely removed the PS Store purchase ability...
They even sent us emails, as for the excuse/purpose they used; "We are making these changes to shift our focus to PlayStation Store for PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5 and further improve our players' experience on these platforms." in that exact mail.

I presume that the plates don’t have a logo for copyright reasons it’s also why the debrand one has robots and other icons instead of the icons usually found

For the blue ones, you should be able to get rid of the white stress marks by heating them up with a heat gun or something. If they're too deformed idk if they'll fit but there's a chance you could bend them back into shape too once they're warmed up

It’s weird the lack of official customizable parts for the ps5 given how easy it is to do so. You can change the logo, the light color, and the faceplates with ease. I personally got the darkplates with the triple black middle skin and it’s amazing. And purple lights

I pre-ordered my plates from DBrand two months ago. They came in yesterday and I really love them. They feel and look as good as the Sony plates but are totally black. I also purchased the matte finish skin for the central area of the PS5 and it completely solves the "fingerprint magnet" issue. Totally love that I was able to get my plates from DBrand.
I just put a black Jordan skin on it cost 8$ comes with two for your controllers to match people stupid

Great video on how to see what plate looks like on ps5. Very helpful. Personally i think i would go for specific themed plate. F.i. game theme like Horizon or Far cry or uncharted.
I didn't opt for the faceplates since I don't look at my PS5 that often, but I did jump for that Robot Camo middle skin since I just my Eject and Power buttons often. I really like the white plates and the black and white middle skin combo. Thanks for the video! ^_^

Ordered the same setup from DBrand awhile ago with may shipping. First video online with the robot-camo middle skin, i was waiting for this. I wasn’t sure at first but it looks so cool and clean! Happy I purchased that skin to go with the plates. Great video.

I have the dbrand 2.0 plates. I love them as I like the whole black look as I also picked the matt black sticker and I like how it follows the curve of the console. Plus having those fan vents on the side is an extra plus which actually helps the console

I ordered the chineeses faceplates blue ones you had in your video and mine showed up in perfect condition same box and everything except i ordered off amazon. No mold imperfections or nothing and im just happy to have something different to swap in and out once in a while
I just used black vinyl dye on my original plates - fantastic finish and I get to keep all the official logos. Did the same for the controller.

So i have been fortunate to have a PS5 at retail price and bought Dbrand black face plates. With a different color vinyl wrap. They are definitely back ordered but seeing how this review went. It wont disappoint lol.

Yeah, I came into the comments to see if anyone else noticed that. Obviously CMP just threw their own sticker on it (maybe QC checked it as well). But for them to say it's limited edition is hilarious.

Hey Jeff, I had my OEM plates that came with my PlayStation 5 hydro dipped, it now sports a Galaxy image on both sides and I got a gradient blue sticker for the logo behind the plate, I love it! Wish you could see it!
Got my face plates from dbrand and I also got a colorware customize controller and I agree it's still early in the game..

Like you, I got the plates from CMP Shells and my Darkplates showed up last weekend. The Darkplates, without question, are the best. I went with the matt black front skin/sticker, so my PS5 is all blacked out and matches better with my Xbox Series X. Now all I need is a black PS5 controller ...
I dont have a ps5 but this video was highly entertaining to watch! My rule of thumb with aliexpress is if it costs more than 20 you really gotta be sure it's good before making an order 😂
Yeah. Really bummed out about that. 😅 what’s worse is when I tried contacting the seller about the damaged and missing plates, he said he’d only refund me $10. 😐
@@DammitJeff Does Aliexpress offer "buyer protection"? I don't use them tbh. I use either Amazon or eBay and both are better in offering "full refunds" than other websites.

I was thinking about buying the DBrand faceplate, but I think I’ll stick to the regular faceplate on my PS5 and customize it my own way with stickers and such. Great video though on faceplates!
I’ll tell you right now I am a very conscientious consumer and I ordered the cheap ones shown here. They have definitely improved their packaging 100% and it’s the same exact quality as the first box he opened
They probably don’t have the logo because it is most likely copyrighted , and Sony has been shown to take action on their properties, when it comes to these .
I have black CMP Shell and although it took a while for me to finally get them they look great, and unless you are very particular as Jeff seems to be , you will be very happy with them.
I’m waiting for my Dbrand Darkplates, Also you might want to make a review of Colorware custom ps5 controller, you can customise them to a matte black colour to complete your all black ps5 or into any other colour of your choosing
I think just a skin over that glossy center strip will be good enough for me. Heck, that's something anyone can do on their own with a roll of vinyl and an Xacto blade

Black D Brand turned up this morning. Super slick and popped on and off as easy as official covers. Just ordered a quality matt lime green centre sticker so should look good.

i got the cmp shells from trezn, really didnt feel like paying extra for darkplates for microscopic symbols i cant see or for a fancy black shipping box

Quite suprised about the knock off ones - I ordered some black faceplates from Ali Express, came in the same box as yours but packaged totally different inside - There wasn't a peel, they were individually bagged and sheets of foam for protection. They look incredibly similar to the CMPShells, but with less issues in the moulding like by the serial number - and they fit perfectly!
I feel like this vlogger has the goal to be negative about AliExpress. And promoting the expensive ones maybe for promotion offers. Sponsoring maybe.

I've bought the black plates from Aliexpress. They're identical to the CMP plates. The blue makes it look cheap and you were just unlucky that it was damaged during shipping.
I new right away when I found out how easy they are to take off that in the future they will be making custom plates from colors to games and what I think would be cool is sports like football or baseball or basketball any design really I’m definitely excited and would most certainly buy them
Ordered the official midnight black shells from Sony and got the midnight black controller, finally! Been wanting an all black PlayStation 5 console but did NOT want to miss the opportunity to get a PS5 when I got the chance, glad it’s an easy process to customize the shell colors and that the middle of the console is black anyway. Now all my consoles match again. 😄🥳

The little symbols etched on the inside of the Dbrand plate should be in the exact location as the the factory one.

I think dbrand is best. I honestly don't mind waiting since I'm so busy with other things that I'll just completely forget that I made the order XD.

I’m on the May group as well. I also ordered a couple matte black controllers from Colorware as well, which I’ve seen positive reviews on as well. They’re dipped actual Dual Sense controllers and not third party controllers. And while they void the PS warraunty on them, Colorware gives you a 1 year replacement warraunty with them, which justifies the price a little more. But Colorware allows many colors and combinations. Seems to be a reputable site with their previous black airpods also getting some coverage as well. If anyone has any other custom suggestions, I’m always looking. Cheers.

Just finally got my PS5 and was fully expecting to immediately get black plates and the all black controller and then I had a change of heart once I opened the box and pulled the console out. Turns out I quite like the white plates and controller. Maybe in a year or so I'll change it up though. Appreciate the video and the effort!
You could always buy a black cover for your controller to pretend its the midnight black version

@@jkidd7608 If you have that option I say go for it since the official plates are better quality then most third party ones available, though remember being a PS+ subscriber grants you express (2 to 3 days) or regular (4 to.5 days) free shipping at no extra cost
Not to mention PlayStation Direct is selling first party titles heavily discounted as well Sackboy goes for $29.99 from its $69.99 price tag among others
I got the black plates from AliExpress for 18eu including shipping from China to Europe. Mine came in perfect condition and look really good on the console.
I like the d-brand plates! I just kinda wish I could get them in something other than black. It definitely looks good but I'd love a more vibrant color.
