The International Birdman is a series of two English competitions held in the West Sussex towns of Bognor Regis and Worthing. The competition which involves human 'birdmen' attempting to fly off the end of a pier into the sea for prize money. The event began in 1971 and has always been held on piers in West Sussex, on the south coast of England. It is the oldest Birdman Rally in the world.

Bog snorkeling, shin kicking, gurning or wife carrying are all good old school sports. Gurning is one you would never guess what it is if you have never heard of it.

Red Bull Soapbox races have been held in Texas and other places in America. The teams get points for design and performance as well as speed. Sadly all the performance bits were missing from this video. Kepp up the good work.
It’s a shame that this is only one persons view from about halfway down the hill… I need to find some bits of footage that has the starting dance routine contest, and some of the other obstacles on the way. I’ll have a look once I finish watching this video. Because you guys are hilarious

I have watched this a few times, they do it in US cities as well so you may not have to travel as far as you first thought to have a go.. They go all over the World with this

Scoring for the Red Bull Soapbox race is in three parts, marks are awarded for the design of the carts, the teams do a 30 second performance at the start line and then there are marks for the actual time to get down the course.

The Goodwood Festival Of Speed Hill Climb is a great one to watch. Kind of the opposite of this in that it's very fast and technically advanced vehicles going up hill quickly, rather than technically basic vehicles going downhill relatively slowly!
Also, for a similar kind of "people having disasters for our entertainment" kind of vibe, check out Takeshi's Castle. It's a Japanese gameshow that started (I think) in the 70's and ran until the early 00's (may still be on today for all I know) but there's also a version which has commentary by Craig Charles who is British so there's kind of a British link to it in that way as well.

Well done finding the Red Bull Soap Box Race. It is an excellent opportunity for folk to attempt to do a 'Jackass' event. Love the themes, the whole theatre antics prior to launch. Such a laugh, that is also stomach churning, as you watch them lose essential parts going down the course.
I still think the jumping off the pier and trying to fly are still the best.
The Soap Box Derby is a youth soapbox car racing program which has been run in the United States since 1933. I know in 2015 redbull had their race in ohio.

Decades a go our office used to take part in a ‘raft race’ on a local river. Such fun So funny watching them desperately get far as they could while slowly sinking or breaking apart🤣🤣🤣🤣

Soapbox derby used to be massive in the US in the 70s, but it was taken very seriously and lost favour due to high profile controversy and scandal regarding cheating, I'm sure there's a documentary here on the tube about it.

You might want to check out Red bull Flug tag which is with people trying to fly in homemade airplanes with no engines and also Red bull X fighters which are moto cross High flying stunts.

I could be wrong but I think Red Bull have soap box races around the world so I'd imagine there's one somewhere not too far from you guys. I just looked and Cincinnati and Atlanta seem to be the nearest ones to you guys. I'm surprised that New York hasn't had one, but I guess there aren't too many steep enough hills there for it to work. When everything is back to normal I'd love to see you guys do this, that would be epic!!!

There's a show in the Netherlands called 'Ter land, ter zee en in de lucht' (at land, at sea and in the air) that's been going on since the 70's. It goes from people jumping from a high platform in self build 'flying objects' to badtub races. It's worth taking a look.

the US used to do soapbox racing a lot but as with most things it became VERY competitive, violent and people started cheating where as here in the UK we just like dicking around and having fun
