  • This is just a quick movie review for Totally Killer, starring Kiernan Shipka. It'll be spoiler-free if you're curious about the movie, but don't want all the details. This is a great horror movie if you aren't a big fan of scary movies, and want something a little lighter on the gore and the scares.

    My 2 cents? - #1 Let the Right One In, #2 American Warewolf in London ❤, # 3 The Hunger, #4 Harold and Maude- ( I know, doesn't fit the category, but Cat Stevens soundtrack- nothing else can touch it).

      Love it, love everything about it!
      Let the Right One In was my obsession in High School 😂

    Since it’s horror comedy I might check this one out as I like that type of horror. The premise also seems neat but I will keep your views on it in mind!

      It's super fun! I did really like it and I think it's great for people who don't like horror as much for sure!

      @@renrants I like horror but prefer the lighter ones or the ones with high creep factor. Some that I love off the top of my head:
      Gremlins
      Gremlins 2
      Bram Stoker’s Dracula
      Rosemary’s Baby
      The Shining
      Some others my derp brain can’t remember off hand

      @ColinLack I love Gremlins, I watch it every Christmas season 😂😂
      It's definitely got that fun, horror comedy vibe, but it also just feels a bit like a teen drama. I'd love to know what you think when you see it!

    Max Headroom killer huh? Dude, you mention Nahnatchka Khan's writing credits without mentioning Fresh of the Boat or Don't Trust the B In Apartment 23? D: The first one was a popular sitcom that went for five years and the second one really really should have been! I don't really like horror movies... so maybe the fact that this is apparently not that much of a horror movie will make it more enjoyable for me. XD

      @@renrants I've only seen a few episodes of Fresh Off The Boat. It was funny. I dunno if it's comparable to DTTBIA23 though. Mostly I was just pointing out that it was sucessful enough to get five seasons. I also really liked Always Be My Maybe.

      @@renrants I really liked it. I think it's best if you sorta like Rom Coms but want one that shakes up the tropes. I found it hilarious. If you know some things about East Asian diaspora culture it gives you bonuses but it's not neccesary imo.

    I really love the way you explain TV Shows and Movies in you own unique way, but this movie Totally Paradox failed.
    Many people have closely met and interacted with this mysterious girl from Canada. Heck there are color pictures taken with this so called physic. On top of that both the school and police have her details on record.
    Then she disappears into thin air one day at night and after some 34 years she suddenly comes back and no one can remember her from their past lives? Well not even her own mother can remember this physic girl who gave her the crystal? Ironically the mother was the last person to see her.
    Now this physic girl is the daughter with different name, so no one else can remember her, but somehow that black scientist girl can remember her. This makes no sense at all.

    • @renrants
      @renrants  Před 7 měsíci +2

      First, thank you so much, that means a lot to me! :)
      With the paradox, honestly, time travel movies/stories rarely make much sense when you think about them too much, there was kind of the same problem with Back to the Future. I mostly just allow the story to happen when there's even comedic Sci fi involved because scrutiny, while correctly calling realism into question, can spoil the fun for me a bit.
      But suspension of disbelief still only goes so far and there were times this movie definitely felt closer to Scary Movie than Scream or Back to the Future 😅 it still had some heart though, I didn't hate it

    • @giyanvice
      @giyanvice Před 7 měsíci

      @@renrants I like Scary Movie far more than Scream, because parody movies make more sense then any of these frictional movies in Hollywood.
      Have you watched "A Haunted House (2013)" this is also very good parody movie.
      A well made parody movie is always going to be better than the original movie.

    • @renrants
      @renrants  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @giyanvice I did love the first Scary Movie. It's not the same genre but as a kid I also loved Not Another Teen Movie 🤣
      That said, I do just sincerely love horror movies, personally. Realism can be great and a lot of movies I like use it intermittently, but when I watch movies I try to go along for the ride, although I do still overanalyze them after as this video shows 😅
      I'm a big believer in suspension of disbelief making for a better viewing experience, but sometimes there's stuff that strains at it so much while trying to be kind of serious, like Totally Killer that it overwhelms even my sense of suspension of disbelief 🤣

    • @giyanvice
      @giyanvice Před 7 měsíci

      @@renrants Yah totally, any Hollywood movie trying to take itself seriously is going to be nothing more than a joke.
      It is hard to believe Hollywood still have not realized that this is why we have documentaries, where interviews are taken and shown as proof of accounts, with added facts and evidence to back it up.
      Not like Hollywood which cannot even follow a well written book or novel, and the creators themselves must change their original vision according to the limitation of budget and interferences from the studios.
      I feel sad when I see many people nowadays trying to live their real lives according to the fantasy lies shown in Hollywood taking it as documentaries, not realizing that Hollywood is all smoke and mirrors trying to sell a dream of snake oil, where the events rarely ever applies to actual reality.

    This one was absolutely disappointing to me. First off, like you said it's terribly lacking in Halloween vibes, the protagonist is obnoxiously unbelievable (like come on you know the times were different, get over yourself), and its references feel like they either hate or misunderstand the 80s and its movies.
