How To Install Texas Speed Longtube Headers On A 6th Gen Camaro

  • In this video I install a set of Texas Speed and Performance longtube headers into a 2017 Camaro SS. I go over the entire process and share some tips along the way. I know this video is long, but I condensed a 5 hour job into an hour long video. I hope it helps out someone who is tackling this job at their home.

    This is by far the best instructional video of a header install on a 6th Gen that I’ve seen. 👍
    Once you realized your Jack stand placement was bad bc you needed to take the cradle brace down, you put some kind of ramps under your front tires? What we’re they?

    When you top off the coolant after the install, do you need to bleed the system? Or just top it off?

    I have a exhaust that goes up to the second cats. will the off road pipe leave a gap to where I’d have to get another pipe welded on? Or should I just get the off road x pipe ?

      I think you would have a gap if you didn’t get the x pipe. You might want to check with Texas Speed though.

    Did you end up heat wrapping the brake line that’s close to the header on the passenger side? Or no since it doesn’t touch the header? I just put headers on mine and the brake line looks alittle too close to the header.

    Pete, just bought 2016 2ss Automatic, was thinking about doing the same setup, don't have to worry about cat deletes were I live, no emissions. What's H.P and Torque gains? Bought car for wife for 40th anniversary, let her have the fun. Thanks,Pat

      Sorry we didn’t dyno the car before and after. I would suspect 10-20 hp gain. The factory manifolds are pretty good though.

    I’ve seen talk of adding a port for a wideband o2 sensor for tuning. Did you just use the factory o2 sensors?

    Is running catless headers with the npp valve closed gonna effect the life of the muffler ?

      I don’t think it’ll have any negative effects.

      @@PetesGarageandperformance i also think it should be fine but i heard someone said that if there is fiberglass inside the muffler than it burn it out. so idk if there is any fibers inside our NPP mufflers. but anyway i love the sound of your headers i also got a 2inch AHR and i love how it made my engine produce more torque.

    What size headers are these? 2”?
    Also I saw the link in the desc for the headers but that takes you to the main page, does any1 have the exact link for these?

      I’m pretty sure they were 1 7/8”. I wonder if TSP pulled them off the website due to the EPA crackdowns.

    I have a 2014 Camaro SS with long tube headers and high flow cats and I'm getting codes for rich to lean on the o2 sensors you think I can tune that car and pass emissions?

      Yes it needs a tune. The reason it’s setting that code is because the o2 sensor is further downstream and there’s more of a delay.

    My instructions by kooks are telling me to remove my starter... I can do it but prefer not to. did you have a problem with starter getting in the way? it didnt look like it on camera.

      I did not have any trouble around the starter. I didn’t remove it. But like you said, it’s two different sets of headers.

      I think it was about 4 or 5 hours. The hardest part was cutting the exhaust because I didn’t fully remove it. It would’ve been easier to completely remove the exhaust to cut it.

    What connection pipes do I need to connect Speed Engineering long tube to MBRP Catback for 17' SS

      Not sure. Does the MBRP cutback go all the way back to the x pipe? If not, cut the factory midipe like in the video and be good.

    Great video I watched it to see if I want to attempt it myself. So this is a cat less install of headers. Now if I get some Texas speed headers that’ll bolt up to my factory cats I won’t have to do any cutting? Because I am in california that’s why and don’t want to remove for smog.

      You’d need a shorty style header to retain the factory cats. Honestly the factory manifolds are practically shorty headers.

      Tsp headers are notorious for rubbing against the steering shaft. It’s a 50/50. Some people dent them or go with other brands like speed engineering or kooks.

      Not bad if tuned correctly. If you run catless there will probably always be a little smell. If you have a big cam, even worse.

      The owner is thrilled with the sound. It still has the factory selectable exhaust system. It’s quiet when putting around, but screams at wide open throttle. Thanks for watching though.

    How did you remove the subframe brace ? I removed all bolts and still won’t come out

      Some of the bolts are recessed into holes in the brace. Also there are some 10mm he added bolts that hold the plastic trim to the brace.
