Myanmar rebels gain ground: Military loses territory in eastern Kayah State

- Thailand’s new prime minister is being urged to revise policy towards Myanmar after recent fighting between rebels and Myanmar's military government.
There has been a shift in power in Kayah State along the border with Thailand, where Rebels have managed to push government troops out of strategic areas.
Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng reports.

They are rebels. It's not like the word is always negative. It just means someone who fights the existing government or leader, which they are definitely doing.
Rebel is not a negative word and totally accurate in this sense. They're rebelling against the junta government.

Thank you for Myanmar news on your channel. International media should choose their words CAREFULLY. Calling the Defence Forces "REBELS" tends to lend legitimacy to the Junta. The Junta has no ligitamate claim to power or authority. In my opinion they should use the term "FREEDOM FIGHTERS".
In mynamar, the people treat the military as "rebel" and the rebel as "milittary" because the army is supposed to protect the people.

Because the West has no land corridor into Myanmar. It's not the same as Syria, where Turkey fully supported the delivery of weapons to rebel groups there.

Rebels are pushing Burmese army back. Only thing that those rebels lack is some manpads
I do not understand why the military bothers to send troops to the border lands if they are going to constantly get ambushed. Did they not learn from other previous guerrilla wars? They are spreading there troops thin, although I do not support them I would think crushing descent in the heartland would be priority 1#, but hey I’m just an armchair general.
Myanmar military may have better military equipment and weapons but a number of other ethnic groups surrounds them putting them into a corner
since the Myanmar goverment is important to china could china attack the rebels? both sides are not really strong compared to most countries
