The portals are the reason it doesn’t climb or side hill as well. Wish they would offer the fcx24 chassis with or without portals.

Not overly surprising that it struggles on the downhill, or going up for that matter, with that very front biased weight from the body. A bit of brass on both axles would probably helt quite a bit, but with that tall, heavy body it'll be hard making this thin a great performer. Looks like an epic, little trail rig with some crawling capabilities though. While it looks great, I don't think it's something I'll put on my "to get" list. :)
I'll stick with the "Unimog" Hobby Plus CR18P I bought recently, and that I have yet to build. I'm the process of trying to design a flat skid to fit an FCX24 gearbox in it at the moment. Would be cool if I could get that to work, since the CR18P seems like much more a performace oriented Unimog like rig, and the FCX gearbox should help with both top and low speed.

Thanks so much for the video and the helpful test series. I've been binge watching them :) I don't understand why the modulation score on the Unimogs is only 3,5 out of 5 though, when it is apparently so good compared to others. Also is there a place to view the list with all the scores so far? (Specifically looking for an overview of modulation scores as it determines so much about the realistic scale movement and control of the crawlers).

      Thank you.
No, so far there is only the list of final scores here in the description and my Excel sheet ;-).
      It is hard to judge.
But read description... all those brushed trucks with very good ESC and slow speed modulation get 4 max, ... maybe with larger motors one day more. 5 would be the ultra-slow modulation of a Furitek ESC with a large old Komodo motor... even the Furitek Venom (FX118) did not get 5, only 4.75.
More than 3 is already really very good.
4 for the German micro ESCs, which are clearly a bit better than the ESC in the FMS models. However, donno why, I felt that the FCX18 and also the Lemur are even a little bit better than FCX24 Power Wagon, K5, Unimog.
But this is super hard to judge, it is only "feeling"... and 0.5 points more or less normally do not really have a big effect on the result.
I gave all those Flysky rx/ESC combos (FMS, Hobby Plus) 3.5 points, ... and FCX18 and FCX24 Lemur 4... maybe 4 is too much for those, 4 is (watch my video about best brushed ESCs).
      SCX24 with v1 electronics and v3 electronics got 2 points, SCX24 v2 elecronics got 3 points, Flysky (Hobby Plus, FMS) 3.5 to 4..., Mini-Z 4x4 2, TRX-4M 1.5, old Hobby Plus 1 - 1.5, old RC4WD 1/18 0.5, new 1.5, RC4WD 1/24 0.5, WLToys 2428 0.5,

hello, your channel is great and your tests are really interesting. Besides, I would have liked to see a test of the hbx2098b, because it has been more than 5 years since it was released and it still has great capabilities compared to the competition...

I do not have an HBX - I do only have an old WLToys and several Redcat Sumos and Graupner Punisher XXS, which are very similar to the HBX, and a Basher Rocksta. But all those are not stock anymore and some out of work... so very difficult to do for me ;-)

Factoring in the coolness factor which is worth 100 points, the Unimogs still come out first! 🛻

Agree, but guess only people here in Central Europe think that way ;-)
