How long is the real battery life & Flight Time for the Mavic Air 2? How far can you fly on one battery? The specs tell you the technical maximum but you're never going to get that in real life. This is not a long distance range test but is a continuous flight at max speed in Normal P Mode flying non-stop until Critical battery. I upload the flight logs to AirData.com to confirm the actual flight time, the distance flown and the signal strength for the whole flight.

Happy flying guys.... Ian - Věda a technologie
Ian, spot on bud :) thanks for taking the time to do the test. As always a true and honest review :)
That’s great Ian - very interesting and informative as always, excellent - thank you 👍
Very impressive test Ian. I to am finding the Mavic Air 2 to be a very competent bird with massive bang for the buck.
Excellent Test / Review - Everytime i see your videos on the Air 2 it makes me want to upgrade - liked 👍
I thought that was fairly good flight time, thanks Ian, as always!
Great Video again Ian well with a little luck have a mate coming to my house to go out flying with his new Mavic Air 2 and as I have seen all of your videos on this drone I now know just what this little drone is capable off, thank you for all your tests on this and other drones IAN, regards TJK UK.
Great test Ian, Thanks!
Thanks again Ian for another interesting video, glad it was you flying round in circles not me 😄. I think it's a good done so far. Keep up the great work and stay safe 👍👍
Thanks Karen. Will do..
Many thankst Ian, great topic selected. excellent presented, thank you Saj
Brilliant Ian. Another great video Sir and very helpful regarding me buying an Air 2.
Thanks Ian - another great video - informative and clear.
The photography that we do from drones seldom requires us to fly huge distances away , so that massive range is comforting but not generally used , what is more important is the quality of the camera and the footage it can deliver. . Cheers mate , enjoyed this vid .
Camera quality video on its way....
Nicely done. Thank for doing this.
Wow what a place to live and fly . If only I had that sort of area to fly - jealous !!
Amazing flight and huge respect for being strict on the UK drone guidelines - not many follow it and it’s nice to see and watch a like-minded pilot . Great video and thanks for the upload and insights Ian. 👍🏼
Fantastic as always, thank you
Interesting test Ian, I actually estimated 28/29 minutes on my review. So pretty spot on. Thanks 🙏
Great stuff 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
A drone pilot that stays within the UK rules!!! Well done, i thought it was only me. Nice video as always.
No, some others out there to. ;)
Can you legally fly over buildings with a drone in the UK.. my understanding is you can providing it's above by 150 feet. Have I got that right?
@@coulsdonplasterer4380 hi yes that is basically correct, unless it is a built up area, the definition of a built up area is not clearly defined. I have flown over my street and surrounding streets at 300 feet so I am more than 50m above them, but I would not fly over the town centre.
I hope that helps.
Great as usual
Top review ian thanks!
Looks beaut mate, bout time I pensioned off my Phantom 3's and checked out the Mavic Air 2, well done as always Ian.
You should! 👍🏻👍🏻
Many thanks Ian for the video and info :)
nice work,, you are wise,, appreciate it, I've enjoyed my Air 2 a lot, its a better feel as far as any sudden winds, unlike my Mini,, I do not worry, also love that site you use for analyzing data, very cool, thanks for posting
Great vids man! Really enjoying your channel
Thanks fella 👍🏻👍🏻
Schönes und anschauliches Video 👍
Great test, thanks Ian.
Thanks Ian. Informative video.
Nice video
I think it’s great that you do these videos , very interesting ,good honest review 💪🏽❤️👍🏽👌🏽
Nice landing 🖐🏽
Thanks fella 👍🏻
Ian in London 👍🏽
Great! AirData is something new for me - thanks will try this today. :-)
Excellent test as ever, thanks. The real world UK based information is sometimes hard to find with all the distance videos. Great job!
Thanks Sean 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Really good review of the time and distance Ian. Well done you for staying within the UK flight rules..👏👏
Great video! That´s exactely the information I was looking for: realistic max. flight time and max. total distance possible. Most test videos give you max. range but max. distance is much more valuable to know, e.g. for a round trip where you are never terribly far away from your homepoint!
Hi Ian. Great test yet again. Very informative as always. I'll try and get my Air 2 up over the weekend and see what figures I get from the 3 batteries.
Good stuff bro.
funny you mentioned Utah desserts. I'm from northern Utah, but driving to southern Utah this weekend to fly my mavic air 2. thx for the shout-out!
Love Utah. I put an Angels Landing video out last year.... Crazy....🤠
Well done Ian. Great video, pleased to see a distance test within CAA rules.
I thought it a smart way to test it 😀👍🏻
Great test Ian Nice one 👍
Really good video, have watch at your channel a few times. You got a new subscriber👍. Greetings from Norway🇧🇻
Welcome aboard! Loved Norway!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@IaninLondon if you should buy one drone today, which one would you buy. I have a Fimi x8se drone and I wanna upgrade.
I have a similar backyard over my fence too. In fact I have a similar fence. Can't beat it for flying quadcopters. Great videos Ian. Cheers from New Zealand.
Ah, I had 4 great years in NZ; a year in Auckland and 3 years in Chch. No drones back then....
Really good to know. Thanks. 👍
Where can i find that little thumbs up ?
Could only find the big one and hit that instead.
great journey ... and good idea to go the airdata.com analysis ...
My Mavic 2 Pro is closer to 30 min. but that might depend on that I usually do not go full speed.
But I like the distance and range for sure ... if the signal strength is good or at least video transmission fluent.
Very professional as always Ian really enjoyed that, have been contemplating getting the mavic mini for some time now but I think I'm being won over by the mavic air 2, my biggest hate with my mavic air is noise but the 2 seems to be a fair bit quieter, any plans on a sound test in the future? 😁 Ted seemed to be behaving himself today our westie still sees my mavic as his mortal enemy 😂, cheers Ian stay safe buddy.
The Air 2 is way quieter than the original Air... I think Ted is finally getting used to them......😀
You have the perfect garden for take off👍🏻
Again another concise and clear video. I confess I do not understand why people are obsessed with going for miles with these drones. I’m generally happy with VLOS here in the U.K. and I think I would be petrified sending it a few miles away... anyway thanks again ..quality
That English countryside is stunning. Great flight, thank you for the information!!
Awesome work done by calculating flight time data.
Its very cooooool.
👍👌👍
Excellent there my friend. Yep I have the mini and max flights are about 20-22 minutes. Cheers from Alberta✌
Ah, you have plenty of fine spaces to fly there...... :)
Great stuff Ian as always what a great bit of kit. I love mine. Maybe you could have tweaked the time and distance further flying slightly slower and from full battery . But a great result cheers mate .
Yep. You're right 👍🏻
Great review Ian. Nice area you live in Brother!
Excellent video Ian! Just researching getting a Mavic Mini or Air 2 and found your channel! Very informative content and nice that its from a UK perspective :-) Subscribed!
Also, I recognise that app icon in the middle of your phone screen @ 2:42 ;-)
😉 Would defo go for the Air 2 if you can....
@@IaninLondon Yeah, my understanding is that even thought the Mini is a "starter drone", the Air 2 would be better for new users as its more forgiving with pilot errors? Better in winds, better signal strength, more sensors etc?? :-)
@@jmiller991 Yes, yes and yes. In every way, if you can stretch for the Air 2, it's a better drone for beginining with and you're unlikely to want to upgrade in a hurry either...
@@IaninLondon Thanks! I'll see if I can stretch to it lol. Do you have instagram etc?? What part of london are you based in? Im in Kent, so not far :-) You should offer beginner drone lessons lol
@@jmiller991 I was looking at mini 2, so glad I went for the mavic air 2, just so much for the money this incredible and very forgiving, just be careful in sport mode!
Good video Ian
Thanks Lyn 👍🏻
Nice and informative video Ian . . Thanks for sharing! #176
Nice video Ian I'm glad I found your channel so soon on my Drone journey. I like your honesty especially after losing your Drone it keeps the channel real.
I like to see more sensor tests. What can it really detect and how does it react?
Help improve our low level skills..
✌️
Great to have you on board.... Check out the previous Active Track test I did; sensors are amazing....
Ian just took the plunge and bought my MA2 combo. Got it through Amazon got there care package that cost less than DJI care refresh. Can’t wait I feel like a kid at Xmas. So I’m away to sell my old Mavic air through Grey arrows.
Good evening 😁
I do like the Mavic Air 2, ocusync 2, on a pre £1,000 drone is exceptional, battery life is still very good.
Little bit let down with lack of LCD screen, but that does reflect on price. Ps..lovely garden you have Ian..
Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
Of course in his Vieos Ian must fly within the law
I would not want a built in screen as I can choose what I want
I do use a dedicated Phone / Tablet
Thanks for the test..
Wonderful test Ian, thanks a lot. I would need to change my trousers at about 22 mins, getting all those warnings! I know you had to speed up the video, but there was some stunning countryside still to be seen.
I think I should put up more normal speed footage.... :)
Wow. That’s a lot further than I thought. 9.5miles. That’s a lot of flying. Considering that most of us drone users fly to a point then set the shot up film/photo then move onto the next etc. Keep em coming Ian. Say hello to Mrs. Ian in London. We just managed to catch a glimpse of her in your gazebo. 😄 Beautiful spot you live in. Thanks again. How about an active track of Ted as he is running around the garden? That would be interesting and a good trial for the MA2 👍
Will be trying to Active Track Ted one day soon...👍🏻👍🏻.
Well done, thanks for sharing I subscribe to you thanks again 😎
Thanks fella! :)
I seem to be spending lockdown waiting for the next Danny Baker's Treehouse podcast, the next Bob Mortimer's Train Guy clip and the next Ian In London video. :-)
I think that's a complement! 🤣🤣🤣
I have been flying the Hubsan Zino for the last 12 months or so. Great drone but very poor battery life. VERY interested in the Mavic Air 2. Great battery life, be it that spares are expensive. Very tempted by this drone. 👍👍 Thanks for video
Very good!
Awesome 👏 Job ...
good test :)
I was already enjoying your video and then I saw Grindr and now you’re my favorite 😂🌈 ❤️
By the way Ian I am about to be a new Mavic Air 2 pilot. I’m sure you’ve already tested this as well, can you tell me the max speed?
🤣 and now just look into this red light ..... #MIB
MA2 does around 42 mph and I have plenty of good vids on the Ar 2 playlist here! :)
👍🏻. Mine went into a tree yesterday... I initiated spotlight (i think that’s what it’s called), recorded some footage for 30 seconds or so. Stopped the filming but didn’t click the green X off me as the target. Next thing I heard was it chopping away at some branches to the side of me. Somehow i managed to get it out and it survived. Lesson learnt!
Never rely on the obstacle avoidance. Especially sideways 😀. Lesson learned and move on 👍🏻👍🏻
That's a hellava Back Yard and beyond. I'm thinking the Drone Police is nowhere to be found. You Drive a Tank around and no one would notice 🤔
Man you have the perfect backyard for flying very beautiful backyard
Thank you! :)
I have worked on extending the flight distance overall (not just radio range) and learned many ways to fly farther. Have made it over 11 miles and many flights in the 10+ mile range. Biggest limiter is wind. Altitude surprisingly not as big a limiter as expected.
Are at least 20 points to follow to get over 11 miles on the MA2.
Wouw keren❤❤❤
awesome
Soon I expect my own Mavic air 2 and watch your great videos often. In this flight time video you talk about "flight log": where do you get that data from? I'm curious. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Flight log is stored in your phone. When you connect to Airdata.com they have instructions 👍🏻
Hi Ian, brilliant review and video as usual. I have just started to get into drones from this lockdown happened and bought a cheap £100 drone to see if I liked it.....I do and I have found your videos very educational. I am now looking at making a new purchase and wanted to know if you would recommend the 2 air? I walk in the mountains a lot and it looks like it can handle wind okay. As I say, I am a newbie and would appreciate your feedback. Cheers.
Hi David. For hiking, you will need the strength and wind handling that the Air 2 has. So I'd have no hesitation in recommending the Air 2 for you. You will love it. 👍🏻
Looks like you have a fantastic spot to do a range test. It is understandable if can’t...you just can’t.
Cool just looking at taking a course and getting a license never flown one before 👍👍👍
You don't need a licence for these ones just FYI and good luck 👍
Range test, Good flight anyway. 👍
First time out with my Air 2 today ( forced upgrade after my Air took a dip in Lancaster canal ) - by the third battery I felt confident in the drone to try a distance flight ( along a beach so in my line of sight at all times to watch for air traffic ) and reached 4.6km with a headwind before getting low battery warning and turning around. Signal was still strong, and landed with 30% power remaining 👍 A huge improvement over the original Air
Sorry to hear about your canal experience.... :) But that's good going; it's a huge improvement...
Thank you Ian for staying within the rules. Sometimes videos do not last long before a call from the FAA
YES the FAA is watching.
Nice one Ian. Hopefully by the time you upload your Air 3 review I'll be able to afford the Air 2 🤣
Just wish I could get that flight time on my Air! It's the only thing I'd like to upgrade for but can't justify that money
Maybe I'll just buy a 4th battery!
Or a car charger! I got one on eBay. Perfect...
@@IaninLondon unfortunately charging things on a motorbike isn't quite as easy! Out of interest though, how long does your car charger take to do a battery? Could be useful when I do use the car on family trips (whenever that'll be able to happen again!)
If you think about it.....20-24 minutes of actual flight is awesome. In fact, with the combo you just come back, plop a new one in and back at it. Since the FAA rules require it to be kept within sight anyway that is more than enough time to get footage. Most certainly will be adding the Mavic Air 2 to my line up.
Yep; my round up at the end says much the same. It's incredible...
Nice piece of property there. Have you thought about dabbling in detectoring? The manual stated advertised flight time is based on 11mph/18kph with no wind and max speed was calculated at sea level with no wind.
Yes, I knew the max time was based on a slower flight speed.... And you're not the first to mention detectoring in that field...,😀
Thanks for pointing me I will the right direction Ian with all your vids! Gutted to say that I received my air 2 today, and its faulty, it has a cannot activate message at the final step, I contacted dji and its a known problem with some models that can't be repaired remotely, so I have to send it back... Was so excited, guess I'll have to wait longer, I hope their after sales service is good. Any experience with that? Will check out this video now, hopefully by time I finally get a working one I will be better prepared. Feels like such a solid piece of kit and looks great
That's so unlucky! Hopefully you'll get it replaced within 7-10 days.... It's a very solid bit of kit...
@@IaninLondon are you on Instagram too Ian? Can send you a direct message and pick your brains about something If you have a min?
ian_in_london
@@IaninLondon Unfortunately my after sales service with DJI has been so bad, I am shocked! Real shame as their products seem great, but literally still have no proposed date of actually having a working drone that I paid nearly a grand for over 3 weeks ago 😕😕
great
so 21 minutes of pleasant flying without squeaky bum time?..lol great vid mate.
Thanks Ian. Maybe you could make a video on how to upload the flight log to read all the data. That looks really interesting. I don't know about others but I have no idea how to do that.
Actually it's really easy. AirData.com have full instructions, but next time I'll include how I upload the log 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@IaninLondon thanks Ian
Ian when I fly my mavic air 2 do I recharge my batteries after each fly or do I wait till next fly day to recharge. Last time I went flying with my drone I recharged my batteries but when I checked them today their at 50%. Would greatful if you can explain how batteries work. Thx
the batteries have a smart discharge function that brings them down to 50% after a few days as this prolongs the battery life. You're best off recharging after a flight as that stops the batteries staying discharged after a flight and just remember to charge them again before your next flight if you haven't flown for a few weeks.👍🏻
Hi Ian good film as always, have you done a similar test with the Mavic Mini? Thanks Tony
Yes, it's in the Mini playlist 👍🏻
Can you tell me why my Air2 is now only doing 20mph cruising speed and only 30mph in sport mode? It was alot faster than that before. I think its done an update since but i dont get to fly it much
Before you got this drone mate you did a video about this not having the airsafe system...is that something you think will come in a later firmware an should it put someone off purchasing this drone ?
It's missing a bit of hardware so it can't be firmwared. TBH no drones have had it before. It was a Nice to Have, which DJI promised, hence the video. But I'm fine without it..
Sold my mini and my air 2 is arriving Thursday!
Idem
Wish I could afford either of those. I have a tello 😕
Hi Ian, 1 question, i wish to take POTRAIT mode shooting, possible on MA2, please suggest?
Not at present.. landscape only.
I think they could've stretched a bit more out, by using lighter internal plastics and finding a way to passive cool the internals with vents or something (there is a fan inside this drone). However then you're sacrificing things like water resistance, durability, performance of the camera and processing units, etc. I really believe that the mavic Air 2 is the ideal example of a well-balanced drone for an outstanding price. It wasn't that long ago you'd be lucky to get 10 minutes out of an aircraft without spending outrageous amounts of money.
Very nice shot at 0:24 of the video... greetings from Malta 😉
I am half Maltese..., 😎😎😎. And love the Rock..,😀
Visual line of sight is a line where your vision is oriented. Your drone can still be in your visual line of sight if oriented in the direction where you are looking.
This is an argument I make too.... I can see over 1000 metres away in direct sight. Be good to get a definite confirmation from the CAA in this.... Maybe I'll write to them...👍🏻
Pls do a max time under best conditions, i.e. not flat out, hovering, cruising, filming etc. thanks mate
Are you certain that a windy day will not reduce the flight time, if you're flat out into the wind in P mode, it'll try and maintain the speed asked of it, with consequently greater battery drain, and I would imagine that is not recouped during the downwind run? This is strictly guesswork on my part, but it seems viscerally wrong. Any chance of doing the test the next time the wind drops (and maybe also when the wind is high as well as a comparison?) I send my old faithful P3P out on a Litchi mission loop (24 kph), and it comes home with lower battery on a windy day..
It was actually a very light breeze on this day and it sat on its top P mode speed much of the time. So I do think what it loses flying into the wind is made up flying with the wind.... 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video- I think I'm going to buy this drone, but am torn... Is the Mavic Air 2 Pro a better purchase?
2 Pro is top, easily. Way more adjustability and functions. Variable aperture. Just as good signal. Better camera with larger sensor..... But air 2 is half the weight. .... 👍🏻
@@IaninLondon thank you sir- it will be my first drone purchase.
You didn't have to speed this up. A lot of us on this side love to enjoy your countryside! Feel free it make another vid at normal speed.
Ah, maybe I should have done full length at the end......🤠👍🏻
Aqui do Brasil já deixando meu like
Nice PC build!
It's a full on gaming PC as that's great for editing 4k video 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video beautiful scenery...What song did you use in this video?
"What Might Have Been" by Francis Wells - Epidemic Sound :)
@@IaninLondon thank you
