    I bought the LW 15 model to humidify the room I keep my acoustic guitars in. From November to May, it runs 24/7. I've used many different humidifiers over the years and this is the best. Easy to set and forget.

      In the dead of winter, (Northern Illinois), I need to use another small table top humidifier along with the LW15. I want to keep the humidity level to at least 40% for my guitars. Depending on your location and your heat source, it might be all you need. I would opt for the next size larger. My guitar room is about 400 sq. ft.

      @@davidcudlip6587 Thank you David, appreciate it! It's just for my tiny bedroom BTW, I'd like to get it from 30% to about 50% ideally. I simply like humid environments. I'm trying first with some plants, then I'll go from there!

    Thank you. This was by far the best review of a humidification system for a piano. Your video directed my research in the right direction. We are building a 1440 square foot house in the Sonoran desert. We will be placing a new upright Kawai K-500 in the great room. Based on my research, we have decided to purchase three of the Venta LW45 Comfort Plus Airwashers as a whole house system along with the Damp Chaser for an upright piano as extra precaution. I would love to see a followup to your review. Excellent work.

    My piano tuner has been telling me, for years, to get a Venta. I got my piano tuned a couple weeks ago and he was really concerned my humidity was at 14%!! I then tried many cheap humidifiers but they didn't work great. After watching this video, I just bought the Venta LW 45 Comfort Plus, for my Yamaha 7 foot grand piano. I am so excited to get it in the mail.

      14% is dangerously low! Did your technician check the soundboard? Hopefully the wood is alright and the humidifier will save the day.

      @@key-notes I don't think he checked the soundboard but I think it's ok. I have a cheap humidifier going now until I get the Venta in the mail. My hygrometer on piano is reading 32% humidity right now. (At least better than 14%). And, I have the humidifier on full blast. It fluctuates so much. Sometimes it gets up to 40%. Sometimes not. I really needed to get that Venta and I am looking really forward to using it!

    It is so noble to sell your shoes in order to afford a Venta. And the piano of course.
    The issue of humidity is far different in Colorado than in Illinois of course. Venta is the way go however. I will take your word on the piano.

  • @DTrackful
    @DTrackful Před 3 měsíci

    I just hear the first 5 seconds and don't need more. You made the best choice with the piano ;)
    The problem is summer. At least here, we tend to have humidity above 60% in the summer. The “DAMPP CHASER” has the advantage that it dries the air when the humidity is high. Not in the whole room, but at the piano itself, which is good. The best would probably be the Venta + DAMPP CHASER, I think.

    • @key-notes
      @key-notes  Před 3 měsíci +1

      60% actually isn’t too high. Even it occasionally hits around 70%, that won’t hurt your piano. It’s better for the humidity to be a little too high than too low. Fazioli for instance says that a healthy range for their pianos is 30-70%. A long-time Bösendorfer technician recently told me that their pianos tend to be happiest when the humidity is on the high side of the healthy range, so 55-60% is perfectly good. Steinway says that the ideal humidity for their instruments is 42%, but anything from 40 to 60% is considered normal. (Also, I don’t know whether Steinway has separate recommendations for their New York- and Hamburg-built pianos.)
      I did have a student who lived in a tropical climate. Their indoor humidity would reach over 80% without a dehumidifier! Their family bought a Bösendorfer and they considered getting the Dampp Chaser system, but Bösendorfer said that in general it’s best to control the humidity in the whole room rather than just the microclimate around the piano itself. If this isn’t possible, they said, then the Dampp Chaser system can really be a lifesaver. You may be right that the combination of Venta plus Dampp Chaser may work best of all, depending on your climate.

    • @DTrackful
      @DTrackful Před 3 měsíci

      @@key-notes The various recommendations are most likely partly related to the choice of wood used for the piano. But it's good to know that high humidity doesn't harm the piano that much. Yes, generally, it is better to control the humidity throughout the entire room, as it is also important for our health. Seen in this way, only Venta is completely sufficient. As a replacement for the DAMPP CHASER, you could also buy a normal dehumidifier. But you should be careful not to set both to the same humidity level, otherwise they will constantly run against each other😅

      Artem I do use the Venta fluid. It doesn't take too much, so a bottle lasts me at least a season. I can't calculate the evaporation rate, which in any case depends on humidity, as the Venta outputs more as needed. Maybe there are better sources for answering this question?

      The model I have is a basic one. SInce then, Venta has released versions of these models with built-in hygrometers, which they call "Comfort Plus" models. You can add a third-party or Venta-brand hygrometer to an existing humidifier, but if I were in the market today I would get one of these models with integrated hygrometer. The Comfort Plus models also claim to humidify faster, for what it's worth. www.venta-air.com/en_at/Comfort-Plus-LW45/7046501

    • @4dventur35
      @4dventur35 Před 3 lety +1

      I have the Comfort plus. To make note the hygrometer in the venta isnt accurate, it only records the humidity withint 30cm around the unit so you need to adjust the humidity of the unit to the desired room. The inbuilt hygrometer on my venta lw25 for instance is 5-10% higher than the hygrometer on my piano, where the venta is relatively next to my upright. It reads 55% at the bottom panel same as venta and 50 on top

    Hi, thank you for the video it's very helpful. A piano store in Denver in the USA also recommended to me the Venta humidifiers. Do you know how much humidity does your Venta add to your room ? I am hesitating between the LW25 and LW45, I have a small piano room (about 12 square meters = 130 square feet) and the humidity goes down slightly below 20% in the winter, so I wonder if I should get the bigger model like you did. Dankeschön !

    • @key-notes
      @key-notes  Před 3 lety

      The Venta regulates the humidity to around 50%, so the humidity added depends on your environment and the setting you choose (low, medium, or high). The only difference between the LW25 and LW45 is the size of the tank. With a bigger tank, you won't have to refill it as often. Given that your humidity goes below 20% in winter, my guess is that the LW45 would be better even for the small room. 20% really is a dangerous level that could harm your piano if the air is that dry for any length of time. With a bigger model, you could go away for a couple days and not have to worry about the tank emptying. A salesperson strongly steered me away from the LW25 in favor of the LW45, even though my room met the specs for the smaller model. I now see he was no doubt right, and I'm glad I got the bigger Venta. Hope this helps.

      It takes a few days for the humidity to rise as all wood furnishings in your room will absorb the moisture from the venta before the relative humidity of the room goes up.
