One extra note- paper tape is preferable on all other joints as one can use premixed compound without concern for cracking.

Ya well we use USG mud and it's not the most consistent mud. You say 2 ounces per gallon? Which would equal around 9 ounches per bucket right? Sometimes when we crack the buckets it takes at least 20 ounces just to get started. Very inconsistent more times then none!!

The instructions for the Feathered Edge, defeats the purpose of the concave joint by stating that one should feather this edge??????
The main reason for the concave edge is so you DONT have to waste time feathering .
When embedding paper tape into a concave joint , use a knife no wider than the tape. This assures that the tape will be below the surface of the drywall , eliminating feathering .
It is better to use mesh tape in these type of joints as the mesh is applied to the bottom of the concave joint prior to applying the first coat. If cracking is an issue then try using fast set compound . this has always worked for me.

Hello, is not better to use Durabond 90 to do the filler coat? You always obtain cracks etc if you only use regular compound; mostly on bathrooms etc
Also, what about to use the "mesh" tape instead of this paper tape? Seems better the other one.
    Thanks

TheReverb1... I'm a remodeler/builder 35+ yrs... Mesh tape is really more of a skimcoat plaster product (gypsum lath) where the whole surface is going to be covered with mud, than a drywall product. I do use it for difficult old-to-new transitions, to reinforce the edges of metal corner bead in high-traffic areas, and to reinforce badly damaged areas where there's a lot of pre-fill needed prior to paper-taping. If you try it - you'll quickly figure out that it's a lot harder to cover and conceal than paper tape anywhere except a tapered joint- so it really doesn't save any time. I use it as reinforcement only to help avoid call-backs.

PS - RE Durabond... I don't know if it's "better" in the long run but it's definitely a time-saver on small jobs or in situations where it's a problem to get your deep fills to dry properly. I use Durabond 45 (never 90)... for all pre-fill, nails, and on metal corner bead. Anything where a deep fill is needed.

Hello, thank you for your responses. There are no Durabond 45 here I think. My main problems are that in my applications the ceiling is sheetrock but the walls are masonry.
Then, I mentioned the Durabond 90 due to I see those cracks, as mentioned in the other comment, when the job was done several years before with only the filler as in the clip.

They want you to buy the wrong compound, mess up and then buy over and over until you figure out what works spending money on all their products.

for small repair mix dry plaster in w yur compound and heatgun, larger patch add 45 min dry mix to a pan full. and use heatgun to dry. it's mostly the heatgun that will get u done fast for a patch.
