I’m so glad I found your channel after my stroke.
Awww the dog. So cute. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for sharing
Great information.. Thanks 🙏
Great advice and your doggie loves it also.
Thanks for the explanation & the exercises. While I deal with spasticity, I certainly understand the challenges with ankle strength/mobility.

Thank you Dr. Tara, I don't have a floppy foot, however I found all of the exercises useful...for improving balance and retraining my brain for my leftside hemiparesis....
Hi Denise! I am so glad you found these ones helpful :)
thank you so much to share this wonderful information
Thanks for watching! I hope it helps!
Thank you
Excellent information. Love my little fur baby ,too. 🤗
Very informative
Bravo, dear Doctor!!
Thanks Luda! Great to see you this week! I hope this one helps you 😊
Im so happy mam that you can help me bless you
Thank you for sharing! What muscles are you using when you are moving away from the wall? Thank you, great work!
Excellent
My daughter is just starting PT for foot drop after leg surgery. Your videos are so helpful. Thank you
Thanks for this video, Dr. T! Foot drop due to MS is my #1 problem and your vids on this topic are always top-notch.
Thank you so much Kate for your kind words and your generous applause! I am beyond grateful. 🙏
Logos tv live
Foundn this video while looking for an exercise for my foot drop and feeling a bit blue and I have to say the happy little dog really cheered me up.
Good job
Agree with others, you do a great job and also love your dog!
Thanks!
Thank you so much Shawn! I am so grateful for your generosity.
Thanks for this great video 👍. I initially thought my ankle problem was spasticity and probably still is to some degree. What I've noticed is right after I remove my articulating brace, I can passively move my ankle both up and down, past 90 degrees, so my point is, will these exercises work for my situation. Another fun fact, the condition you are describing by standing with your eyes closed and losing balance, in aviation is called spiatial disorientation, it happens when pilots enter in the clouds and can no longer see the horizon they lose the awareness of what's going on with the plane, unless trained to use the instruments
Better video than others.
I've done most of the exorcise s and found them really good I've movement in my toes and can bend them when I used to try straight an my foot my toes used to curl the opposite way but impatient work together it a star thank u
This is great, I really like all of your videos.
I am so glad! I really hope they help you.
@@rehabhqofficial if someone has foot drop and spasticity is it still okay to use these exercises?
Love your dog… he’s mimicking you & working out
Those look awesome I think I found a corner just right!
Thanks for talking about difference between foot drop and spasticity, difficult for us to differentiate in MS
Absolutely. This is why I always make sure and explain the different whenever I mention both spasticity and foot drop in a video. :)
This probably is the best video for foot drop…I‘ve watched them all. 😉🥴🥴🥴🙂
ThankYOU Tara!!
❤️🦋
I hope others come across this video sooner than I did. Lots of fluff out there 😔🙂👍 Intuitively your exercises makes so much sense and work of course!!
It is such a scary systematic “condition” for “active” people.
5 months waiting to see neurologist…not fun 🙂
✌️❤️🌎
Thankyou
Very good❤
Thanks for the new exercises. I still have weakness in my ankle muscles and it will come in handy. I think it is quite challenging to put on and take off socks while standing, because pulling on socks adds to the imbalance. Have a nice week.
Thanks Dr Tara, your video always super informative and easy to digest. my brother has brainstem bleed in last July, he admitted ICU for 2 weeks, then moved to normal ward for 2 weeks and have been back home nursery and recovery. we get some therapist come to home. his recovery is miracle for us and also dr mentioned the same. His physical all good but he feels his head, hand n legs numbness and tingly sensation which make his hand and legs not so much energy when he stands. he can started to hold spoon and eat by himself. appreciate if you could suggest what's exercise should he do for expedite his recovery. Many thanks for SG/ID❤
thanks from Poland !:)
Thank you, Dr. Tara, for this informative video! I have foot drop due to CMT and your video is very helpful. I try to get a daily long walk (using a walker) but felt that specific exercises for foot drop would be good to add to the routine. Again, thank you.
I loved watching the cute little dog doing little doggie things! Good informative video. Will start these exercises and see if I stop dragging my right foot as much
Your pfp does not fit this 😂
It’s so hard to pay attention with the puppy’s hilarious moves😂😂😂
Thanks for all the great informations but your dog stole the show❤❤
Dr. Tara do you have suggestions for scoliosis which causes the hip to lift and makes the legs a different length . I'm using the balance exercises that you offer but I'd like to see those legs more even. Is that possible. ?
I have foot drop following lumbar fusion two years ago and have been pursuing a very strenuous exercise program including pool therapy and blood flow restriction workouts on a daily basis. Progress has been slow but steady. Would external nerve stimulation of peroneal nerve promote recovery in any way? Thank you in advance for any advice.
Hello, thank you so much for your videos! What do you think about the smart step brace for drop foot?
YES! They do wear out after about 18 mos ?? depending on how often you us it. Bought two, one for outside shoes, one for my town shoes. Discovered I needed a heel lift inside off foot for equal balance. They sell them the right size. Did you know they just have come out with a new model, STRAPLESS! Anyhoo, I was lazy and became too dependant on the brace, so I did not continue to exercise my bad foot, now my bad foot has become worse (over the years) than it was right after my stroke.
Thank you mam 💗😊
You welcome :) I hope it helps!
Thanks! Tara please contact me about your advice on the night splint you suggested. I'm in desperate need.
I have MS and terrible drop foot. I use a walker everywhere I go. I wear shoes with a one inch heel, mostly booties since my ankle is weak. I’ve had Ms since 1997. I’d like to wear tennis shoes, but they “stick” on the ground. I saw something about using duct tape. Can you tell me more? I love your videos
Hey Doc, I keep checking out your dog, he or she, is stealing your scence. You know what they say about walking with aniamals! Now that is cute, I do feel he is a ham😅
I know right ! What a cutie !
Great
Is there a good brace for high tone spasticity foot drop you could recommend. I got an AFO after my stroke and it doesn't work that well. Than you!
What noodle brace is that in the video and where do I purchase? Thanks!
OMG THAT DOG IS HYSTERICAL
I love this video. I can definitely associate with this as I used to think that I had foot drop when in fact, I had spasticity. This video will certainly help so many. Thank you for that and have a great week.
Great to see you this week Teresa!!! Keep going and keep sharing your experiences!! They are the most valuable :)
Bracing ???
Do you try to soften a hyper extended kne or just let the shifting occur?
How do you manage foot drop where the patient has been prescribed a brace that prevents ankle flexion? Exercise without the brace and then wear brace for daily living? Great video and some really useful ideas.
Look up step smart brace. This brace allows you to move your ankle. I have drop foot for 2 years now and had the stiff brace. I discovered the step smart brace and it's amazing. You will not be dosappointed.
Thank u for this video, I wanna ask u,do i do this exercise with shoes or without shoes? Which one is the best please?
You are a rockstar. So hard to find a neuro therapist. Gave up trying ( after seeing 3 therapists that did more harm) . With ms, we have similar issues as those that had a stroke. You are a godsend to so many. Thank you!
I have nerve damage from a back condition and surgery. I have little feeling in my foot and calf. I went to PT for 3 months after surgery. I have gained a lot of muscle strength, but still struggle. These excersizes are something a little different. I am anxious to try them.
I need to do exercises using
a wedger
What company do you recomend
Thanks ma
Can we get exercises to facilitate dorsiflexor muscle power of zero following injection neuritis
ha ha ha, did you teach your dog to self-massage? I just found your channel. So helpful already for my foot drop and balance.
what do I do if I have 0/5 movement up and to the side to side? Thanks.
Thnk
Please can yuo to talk about the hiperextebsion of knee after a stroke. Salulate from Ecuador.
Can you please tell me or make a video how to get sensation back in leg after spinal cord injury????
Does this truly help if you have no nerve innervation? Thanks
please can you tell me which kind exercise is good for GBS patient?
Hello, Thank you for video and i wanna ask a question. The first movement you show in the video is wrapping with a bandage and then moving the foot up and down. What exactly does this movement do, for example, exercise muscles that are not working or rehabilitate damaged nerves?
Wondering if there are any excercises when the tib ant has completely lost innervation? All these assume " weakness" but what about absence? How can we use muscles ans techniques to compensate?
Any advice for a knee that locks out Straight well walking I can't bluff my left knee
How about toes curled down how I could fix that? Had I stroke in may im always watching 👀 thanks
How long it takes recovery pls tell me
i was born with a hip dysplasia when i had my first hip surgery back in 1996 it damaged my peroneal nerve and now i have muscle atrophy and foot drop on my right leg. i hate those white plastic afo. what is your recommendations? also my first dr who did my hip surgery said i might had polio as a kid but that was his theory.
Can you please do a video for ankle strengthening if you have spasticity.
Lots of videos on this channel for spasticity :)
thank you for this. I shall certainly add them into my routine and work my way up the difficulty level :) . I got drop foot through a nerve being pinch in my S1-L5 and hopefully over time my muscle can get stronger!
Same! I had surgery in 2019 and my nerves still haven’t recovered! How long have you had your foot drop for?
@@melyndablaine9635 hi there, since early march. i have had some improvement from my foot. im sticking with the exercises for strengthe an range. i am going to look into getting a Tens machine as well though. also i have an accupressure mat that i stand on which i think helps. look into cold water therapy as well. keep in touch if you want for support.
Same issues I had.. herniated disc caused my pinched nerve and ended up with drop foot😔
I think I have a pinched nerve, and after about 300 step I get drop foot.☹️
Hi doctor'i need your guidness becouse I have trimilloler fracture last 2month so till now my foot is drop..little bit my injury is not well stitching area's...so what can I do now please tell me..thank you
Can a person go from having foot drop to having spasticity from stroke can this happen maybe winter to summer it more prevalent why it is possible or not. Thank you
I have nerve damage in my left foot due to L5 S1. Had the surgery to relieve the pain. My left foot dropped only 2 weeks before surgery. The doctor said it would only be a 50/50 change that the foot drop would recover. In addition to the foot drop, I just had a right hip conversion 3 weeks ago. I'm trying to heal from both at the same time. While doing the exercises, you recommended. Should I ware the AFO? Thanks for reading my post.
I can do active dorsi flexion while in sitting completely fine (like the second exercise)..i can't do ANY standing exercises - like my affected foot doesn't even lift off the ground..no ankle dorsi flexion at all in standing..why is that? I'm confused. How do i address this issue? Where is the weakness/tightness in standing coming from, as opposed to sitting?
Did it get better
Can you have both spasticity and foot drop?
This video definitely helped me better understand the root causes of foot drop, thank you.
I’m wondering though, could foot drop be the reason for feeling pain in the bottom of the heel especially when waking up in the morning?
Hello Dr. Tobias, I'm late this week.
Great to see you this week Glen!
Omg I couldn't stop watching your furry helper LOL so funny
Merhaba Dr.Tara CZcams dan sizin hareketlerinizi görünce çok beğendim,20 gündür yapıyorum, bende bel fıtığı ameliyatı öncesi düşük ayak oldum, 26-11-2020 de mikro cerrahi yöntemle ameliyat oldum,9 gün sonra 2.ameliyatı oldum 2.den sonra çok zor yürüdüm, hareketlere başlayınca bebekler gibi yürümeyi öğrendim,2kez fizik tedavi gördüm,4 aydır spor salonunda reformur yapıyorum sanki fayda görmedim,bu videoyu yayınlamadan önce Foot Drop Treatment(nonarrative) yazılı vidyonuzu izleyip size mesaj yazdım,her gün cevap yazarmısınız diye bakıyordum, bugün tekrar yazıyorum, bana önerebileceğiniz vidyonuz hangisi olabilir, ben size yazan diğer hastaların yazılarını ceviriden okuyup bilgilendim,eğer bana cevap yazarsanız çok sevinirim,çok iyi anlatıyorsunuz fakat anlamadığım için vidyonuzu izlerken yüzünüze öyle dikkatli bakıyorum ki,size hayranım,başarılarınızın devamını dilerim,çokkk teşekkür ederim,58 yaşında bir bayanım,Türkiye'den yazıyorum adım Şehnaz,sağlıkla kalın,Tanrı sizi korusun,öptüm.

Thanks for the question Scott! I am not familiar with this type of treatment for stroke and/or the rationale.

Have you heard of losing strength in legs due to a UTI? I’m a in home CNA and trying to help my patient stand but starting slow with workouts. Thanks Doc
Hi Melissa, thank you for your question. Side note, I have worked in almost every setting and I have worked with a ton of CNAs. I have so much respect for the grueling work that you all do and that you manage to do it with such care. That said, knowing that you are going to these lengths to find ways to help your patients is so so rare (when you have so many other things that you are responsible for). God has truly blessed you and is using you to bless others. Please keep doing what you do. To answer your question, I can't think of mechanism where a UTI directly causes bil leg weakness, but indirectly, I can see this happening (lack of mobility, confusion etc.) I have also seen people who following a UTI (and maybe some increased time in bed), be extremely fearful of standing so they will not push through their legs when you try and assist them up to standing. Here is a video that might help you to help her regain the confidence to trust her legs czcams.com/video/Igc4Lynvng4/video.html I hope this helps!
Thank you Dr. Your kind words mean so much to me . I believe God has definitely put me here in this Field to show his compassion. So I try my best to do that. And special Thanks to you doctor for what you do, God bless.
i hope you see this.
i realize what you do is hard work. But not all put effort in their jobs. i have a little sister(49 young) suffered with a brain aneursym followed by two strokes. she is in a rehab right now. every time i go in there, all you see is employees standing around. my sister can't feed herself and have had a nurse already tell me she didn't have time to feed her so she will just feed her through a tube. needless to say i was and still am furious. not only that but she is getting stiffer and stiffer. they are just leaving her to lay there. i feed her when i go in and move her too. but i work and so does her kids so its not enough, they let us down. thank you so much for caring, god bless you
My foot drop was due too being in a induced comma for 4 moths due to covid and I wasn't moved around. I need advice plus I have a brace I want to walk regular and work again
Hi, what did u do? Did u fix your foot
@@ismaelquezada6139 negative in still in the same pain
You said something about duct tape on shoe so it doesn’t drag. I can’t find that video. Where do I find it?
How about from sciatica
Focal dystonia or rummers dystonia please.
I had my hips replaced 4 yrs ago. Foot drop only happened in the last year.I am waiting for nerve conduction tests. I've been given a sleeping brace to help keep my foot upright in bed.
Who, what medical specialist ,can determine if problem is F.D. Or Spasficity ?
When I try the toes curl and I’m not able to lift the toes any suggestions to help with that
I just wondering , I can’t lift my feet up but i can lift toes . So , should i still proceed the treatment/exercise you recommend or should i try other kind of treatment?
I'm the opposite I can lift my heel but can't lift my toes 😢
