A little tip, if you run masking tape on both side of the seam before you seal it. Run your seam sealer than pull off the tape giving you a good clean line of sealer. Nice work and keep them coming.

Nice to see you are wrapping things up! I once learned that in big projects they sometimes had a "closing-team" coming in and finalizing all the small details. This went much faster than if the original project team should do it. So keep up the progress!

I agree with you 100%, I hate that patina look. Do all that bodywork, and it still looks like you're driving a piece of💩. When I bought my 63 bug 5 years ago, it was beautiful, shortly after the clear coat started to peel. Now it's about halfway peeled, and it kills me. Every once in a while, I'll presure wash it and then hit it with some rustolium gloss clear to make it look better, but it still doesn't look as good as it did and in a couple of weeks it'll look like crap again. Eventually, I hope to change my heater channels also, and when I'm done, I'll repaint it. I want mine to look as close to new as possible..

What a large rust repair effort. Well done. Personally I believe it's got rust too deep to leave the patina rust. Just get it all and then paint it good. But it's your call. Nice work, just encapsulate all rust and clear it also a thought. Stop all the rust. It looks good with the encapsulated black tint. Solid repaired rust stopped. Just my 2 cents

Eastwood sales an aerosol can rust remover/converter (Eastwood Internal Frame Coating Aerosol | Internal chassiss Frame Rust Remover | Rust Converter and Prevention Aerosol Spray Undercoating for Vehicles |14 Oz, Black) It would work great in all them areas where you can't get paint. Hate too see all the work you have done on this VW go to waste later on down the road. I know that Florida has some very humid weather and that moisture gets into everything that is outdoors. It's not cheap but it does great on keeping rust away from unpainted metal.

Awesome work CT! Have you thought about airbrushing the
rust effects? On top of your off white basecoat maybe start with a wash of cadmium yellow for the lightest rust and add a red ocher and burnt sienna for the darkest rust. Just a thought as I enjoy painting. That red rustoleum used judiciously looks cool too if lightly spattered over the thinned down yellow :)

Lookin' good, some steps closer to finish. Ya, the chemical treatment is a very effective part of the prepping, also it's good thing to soak the lap joints, leave some time and then blow it with airgun, so the remaining chemical actually exits the gap. I would not wash it later since water does it's job, but only wire wheel it or lightly sand.
Let's be honest, it's a totally different feeling when you see the inside made of solid stuff, not only crunchy paper thin stuff, which you can tear off with wour fingers.
I dont' think the chemical ate away the paint, except if it's some metal based one, but I think your car is not creamy color by default, but white. It got creamy after years of rust depositions.. Am I wrong?
Way to go! Keep on and cheers.

You can use a light on the inside of the body to find all of the pin holes to be welded shut. Looking good, I don't know how you are standing the heat. I hate the heat in Mobile this time of year, it makes it hard to work on anything. As long as your hardener is still liquid in the tube and not dried up it will work just fine with your body filler, put some tape over the hole and press on.

Minimising water vapour in your air system is a great thing to work on. If your old compressor reciever can be added in parrellel to your existing system it may collect some water and help to minimise the number of compressor cut in/outs. How do you filter the compressor air intake to stop dust/sand from getting into the system?

Hey mate. We're getting there. Comments made as I watched....
    1.I'm liking the haircut.
2.Well done with your welding, you should be pleased. As for pinholes - always shine your work light through from the back - you'll probably find a few tiny ones you missed!
3.It looks like as soon as you weld in a new panel, it rusts due to your humidity. Please just cover new metal in primer. Then no more need for that scary acid stuff. Prevention is better than cure! Also, are you sure you're supposed to clean it off with water the next day? Surely water would be the last thing you should put onto the newly cleaned steel. Could you use something like white spirit, maybe? Turpentine? I don't know, but not water.
4.Have you thought about seam sealer on that rear bumper hanger?
5.I think you're doing great - stay on track mate it's looking really cool.

Saw someone use an old air comp. tank as a final drier for painting and to protect their equipment. From what I saw it worked pretty good. It is a final defense against moisture. All those filters cost a lot of money but they are not bullet proof. Double tanking makes them almost obsolete and improves your capacity while spraying. Not my invention, watched it proven by someone smarter than me.

I think you need to wet sand the whole car to take of the loose rust and get it to a smooth patina and then after you get done with your fake patina to blend the paint job you need to clear coat the whole car before it completely rusts to a state that makes you have to start over. You might even bring back some of the original paint to blend with your patina.

I just don’t get the patina look idea. I know it’s a personal preference and it is your car. But if I had put as much love and attention to detail in a restoration as you clearly have in this one, I’d want to go all the way and and paint the damn thing. Just saying.
