Preservation, restoration, repairing antique, vintage, classic cars and trucks is my passion. This 1965 Beetle was forgotten in a field in South Georgia for 40 years. Let's bring it back to life. Hard to “blend” a patina. I’ve seen numerous attempts. Most are terrible. Hard to replicate decades of natural wear.

    I don't understand why people pay a body shop a $100,000 for a two year restoration on a VW bus, when you can buy a damaged 2022 911Turbo Porsche from Copart for about 30,000, manifest, expect, accept, you deserve one brother, best wishes.

    There is a stuff I can recommend for protecting the underside of the car: it's an asphalt - based coat that in Germany sells under the brand name "Teroson." What is interesting here that this is not a kind of lacquer or paint, but a spray - on flexible stuff that applies in a rather thick coat - it's meant as protection against sharp objects & moisture. I am certain that some similar products are on the market in the US as well.
    All the best & good luck!

    One of the last steps I recommend if before you have it ready to put wheels on it and drive away, spray the inside fender areas and bottom of the floor with some pick up bed liner. Nothing thick but enough to protect the paint and metal from being chipped by the rocks you kick up while driving. It also adds another layer of water and rust proofing.

    Just a little suggestion. When cutting metal with snips, as a tin nocker ,get a pair good offset snips( lefts & rights. I prefer Midwest brand) never take your snips the entire way closed every time. That causes those little shark teeth along the lenth of your cut & that will tear you up. When you get good with quality snips you'll use them more often than any power tool. Practice practice with red in rt hand & green in left hand. You'll be amazed. Nice job on restoration. No criticism just passing along knowledge.

    Hey, mate - you're doing so well - I hope you're proud of your progress, you certainly should be. You've come so far!!
    You can buy new headlight bowls to weld straight in - no need to find a good used fender to take an old bowl from. I don't think WW do them, but have a look at BBT.
    The plastic strip that goes between the fender and the body is called the wing/fender beading.
    The fender nut thingy that replaces the little square bit that fell out - just make sure you push the threaded bit through from the outside to the inside. That cylindrical threaded bit should be visible inside the trunk, if you get me. The fender bolts up to the flat part👍.
    As to your dialogue at the end - yes you still have a long way to go and loads to do, but just look at how far you've come in a year, man! I remember the car being so full of twigs and raccoon poop that you had to literally fork it out with garden tools. It's great, we're all with you. Keep it up mate. x

  • @malekodesouza7255
    @malekodesouza7255 Před 7 měsíci

    The strips that go between the fender & body are called “fender beading”. The headlight piece is a “bucket”. This seam seal job looked way cleaner. That other tube seemed dryer, at least in the video. Maybe it was old or the temperature was hotter? 🤷🏻

  • @HeikoQuant
    @HeikoQuant Před 7 měsíci +1

    Use a brush to finish off the seamsealer, Thats hot it was done in the factory. Looks better, works better. Do a little bit a time, then you won't have problems with the seamsealer developing a skin in the heat and looking ugly when finished.
