- 1985 Buick Riviera with an ultra rare factory option. I interview Mr. Ron King & check out his award winning Buick Riviera. This is an AACA senior winner & a beautiful example with a very special factory option or 2. I hope you enjoy the interview with Ron & close look at his beautiful classic 1985 Buick Riviera. I met Ron during the 2020 June Chevrolet Nationals held in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
The 6th generation Buick Riviera was produced from 1979 until this final year of 1985. This car carries a few very unique options you'll see detailed in this 4K UHD video.
Show Ron & his Riviera some love with a like, comment or share. We shared a few laughs and good times with his friend & their classic cars. I appreciate everyone who subscribes, watches and comments on the Samspace81 classic car CZcams channel. I especially love doing owner interviews like this.
In addition to the special Light Brown Firemist paint, this Buick has a stunning W15 interior wood decor option, very limited, just over 600 produced and few known to remain today. This was a $2,900 option in 1985. Play the video to learn more about this beautiful American luxury car & a true classic car. Long live Buick and God Bless the USA.

A well preserved american classic with such a caring owner.
Yes, both American treasures. Really appreciate your time to watch the video. - SAM
@@samspace81 god i hope he has a kid or grandkid that looks at grandpa's car as a ultimate treasure. Takes over care and maintenance. This is how these stay pristine.
i like how respectful you speak with him. two gentlemen talking over cars, nothing better.
Thank you so much!! I love older people.
This just makes me miss my old 1982 Buick Riviera all that much more. The more Riviera videos you can make for us, the better.
Noted! Thanks so much for watching too.
What a beautiful car! I love the older Rivieras. I've owned two and was blessed to have both of them.
This Riviera though is such a gem!
Absolutely. Thank you Gerry! Hope you are well
Well beautiful car and owner. Passion has no age. Long life to you Sir, and thank you for preserving this car for the future generations! Thank you Sam for sharing such a wonderful encounter!
Thank you kindly!
Absolutely Beautiful. The Buick Riviera is definitely one of my dream cars.
You and me both!
Back when Buick made desirable cars
Indeed

Thank you so much John. You made my day sir. I appreciate you sharing that. This is what its all about.
Stunning Buick! Very proud owner.👍🏻
Thanks Ken! Thoughtful comment
i love the backstories to these old cars
Thanks Autumn, me too! :)
MY CAR HAS THIS! i did not realize this was a rare option in my 85 riviera with 130k on it
Those are fiber optic light monitors on the header panel. They are made to indicate if a bulb is out. The "come out of NJ" that the owner speaks of is the Linden, NJ assembly plant where these were made. That plant closed in 2005 and my grandfather's friend worked there. I see a few small modifications to it, but nothing that can't be undone. You can tell the owner is a gracious older fellow that just enjoys talking about his car.
The VIN on these would be something like: 1G4 for US made Buick, EZ57 for Riviera two door, Y for 5.0L (307 CID) V8 with four barrel, RPO code "LV2", then a check digit, then F for the 1985 model year, E for Linden, NJ assembly and the rest is the production sequence. Interior trim code should be 974 which is the Beige leather/suede interior combination and the exterior paint is code 86 Light Brown Firemist.
Love that
I have an 80 Buick Riviera. White lol. Been with me since 89. Love it can't part with it! One day it'll be me showing my baby like this. Great video. Thanks!!
Right on! Appreciate you watching & taking time to comment

Wonderful! Thanks for watching, JH
I met Mr King at the AACA Fall Meet in Hershey
Nice, I heard he gets around the shows :) Thanks for watching, Craig!
Car & owner both one of a kind. Fabulous Riv.
Absolutely Joe, thanks so much for watching & commenting. Appreciate your viewership - SAM
I had a Brand new 1984 Buick Riviera with the half landau roof in the rosewood color It was a Gorgeous car but had that dog of a engine the 307! Such a Great video of this man and his passion he still has for his Riviera
I had a brand new '83, it was very much equipped as this 1, except for the actual wood trim. I had replaced the steering wheel, & rims from a T-type. Astroroof, lamp monitors, cloth interior, no vinyl top also. It had the Oldsmobile 307ci 4bbl V8. I installed VOGUE tyres, I was happy with the Riviera. The powerplant disappointed. But, having a new '76 Electra Landau coupe fully equipped & 455cid 4bbl, I certainly missed the power. But, this car is an AWESOME MASTERPIECE. But, it's a bit loud for a luxury Buick. Mine, when cruising was Uber quiet, til I floored it. I flipped the carb pl8 upside down for more air. I swore it gave more performance. When better cars are built Buick did build them🇺🇸
incredible
Wow....nicer than anything on sale today. I can imagine how nice it rides better than any BMW or Benz, only thing comparable today a RR or a Mayback. And those are 10X the price. The owner is a trip also🤣🤣👏👏
Yeah he had a good friend next to him they kept throwing jokes back & forth so I thought I'll rattle Ron and nope LOL Thanks Andy for watching! The wood in that Buick put my 2006 Mercedes wood to shame.
sucha well preserve classic hes real proud of her

Beautiful video. Thank you.
The pleasure is mine, really appreciate your viewership - SAM
It is almost a revisit of the 1983 XX model, but even better.
Really a tasteful design inside and out
My parents had a 1983 blue Ltd and it was my favorite to learn how to drive. Great video..
Wonderful, those were good comfortable cars. I appreciate you sharing that memory and watching this video, thanks for the kind word as well - SAM
Wow that's awesome 👌
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Had an 84 riv with almost all the bells and whistles.... Had the moonroof , I should not have driven in winter... But a freind bought it and spent 9K restoring it...... It has been sitting in his garage since then..... I love the Rivs.
Yabba Dabba do!
I actually have one identical to this one! Not in quite as good shape but the only difference is instead of the sun roof mine has a vinyl top. Same options and everything! So glad to have found another I haven’t seen another one like it until now! Absolutely awesome!
Wonderful, great cruisers. I'm happy you enjoyed the footage. Stick around. SAM
Tenho que falar em português é simplesmente exelente Chevrolet tradicional Americano como nunca vi um igual ao dsse Sr.
Wonderful, thanks so much for watching Danilo, enjoying your comments here in Caddo Mills, Texas. Check out the Chevelle video I just posted please :) - SAM
Really nice Buick. 💗
Thanks so much for checking it out Lisa, appreciate your viewership - SAM
What a lovely character , l loved the banter with his neighbour (was that your friend ?) Not my usual choice and probably not yours but you and l both know there's more to a car show than the cars. I was surprised he was the second owner. You'd be hard pressed to find a better example. That's my lot for today , it's 10.30p.m here and l'm painting some of my TR6 tomorrow ( hopefully ! ) Thanks Sam.
I met him 2 minutes before I filmed that and yes is my friend :)
This rare buick has. 307 oldsmobile engine and wooden panels in the interior including the steering wheel such a beautiful car
Yes, he was so proud of it and rightly so, thanks David for watching
Impecável!
It really was near perfect 👌
Faz jus a coroa!!
Magnífico!
Thanks for checking it out
Beautiful Riv but he needs to clean the front light monitors theyre a little yellowed.
I know exactly who those cars were built for those 600 cars were built for GM Executives who couldn't buy Mercedes BMWs rolls royces. So they had those cars were built for the GM executive suede leather and wood grain. Those most likely their first owners were not people who ordered them from local car dealerships. Most likely it was people who were part of the factory Network dealership owners probably were the ones who bought those Riviera's new. And higher ups in the General Motors Corporation. Then when they were sold used people bought them for twice with the same car without those options would sell for.
Makes sense
Nossa que máximo!!!
Appreciate you taking the time to watch this one :)
@@samspace81 ok : ) mais eu amo muito isso
vocês tem um excelente trabalho!
Just missing the autoparts store bought stick on ventiports on the fenders!!!! Just kidding.....gorgeous cars...i am jealous!!!
Really appreciate you watching Samspace81 👀 and the comment
Just sold my 85
'85 is the pinnacle and then '86 happened. Great car & owner.
Yes! Thanks so much for watching, Douglas
I went into a Cadillac dealership to buy an El Dorado barrettes fully loaded with every option the car's on the showroom floor were selling for $21,000 and that was a lot of money for 1983. That Riviera sold for 24,000 in 1985 my Eldorado in 1983 was 31,000. It had every option that Riviera has except it had a touring suspension the stainless steel roof cap power recliners on both seats the only option that wasn't offered to us was the wood grain kit. If it had been offered I would have owned the same car in fire mist red with white leather interior and red carpet. Another option that wasn't even included in the sticker on the price of the car was purchased after the car arrived to the dealership and that was the true spoke Vogue wheels and the Vogue tires so it was a 35,000 El Dorado in 1983 $10,000 more than that Riviera cost. And the sad part about it GM put that horrible ht4100 engine in it if we had known we would have bought a brand new 1979 Eldorado engine 350 5.7 L and had an exchange done at the dealership I'm truly had the best Cadillac ever built. It got traded in Atlanta Georgia in 1985 on a Mercedes-Benz so somewhere floating around is an ultimate Eldorado L4 package the highest option you could order it took 6 months to have it built.
Thanks for sharing
The transmission and front axle are from gmc
thanks David
Interesting. I can say I have never seen real wood on the dash and steering wheel. But it still had plastic on the doors though
Good stuff, unique
@@samspace81 True,
Many many years ago I owned an Oldsmobile Toronado of this same vintage
No real wood interior though, sadly
That's cool you owned one 😎
I was shocked to hear he's not the original owner. How long does he own it? And gow old is the owner? I would buy it if it's for sale
He's a cool dude
@@samspace81 how long does he own it how many miles how old is the gentleman
ive had 3 of these, the cars were junk.
the real neat ones were the ones that came with the Grand National engine.
Ron might give you an ass kicking if he reads this LOL thanks Andy for watching
The Eldorado and oldsmobile toronado and the riviera has the same body and G body chassis
Nope, they are E Bodies, not G bodies, they couldnt be any more different than each other.
Thanks for watching
is he tryna sell it ?
I don't think anyone could pry this car away from Ron. He adores it so.
Funny it has a moonroof but no landau vinyl top.
Interesting car and man
This nice Riviera is definitely NOT the only one left. The owner has no idea of the others, and even one commentator to this topic said he has one with the stated features.
Its still a unique car, there can't be many optioned like it. Appreciate your viewership & comment
'Its got the original belts'.
That is not a redeeming quality about the car.
That piece of garbage needs to be sent to the crusher, quickly. Stop wasting our precious gasoline on this shit box.
