I mean, really compare this to Munich vicinity Germany. a 5000 square feet property costs around 600.000$, a house with taxes 600k, so under 1 million you get basically nothing in a rural area. Very boring nature, few nice people.
The pay for me as an It guy with a Bachelor's degree is around 3000$ after taxes monthly. Rents are around 1500$ for 800 square feet (mainly older apartments). I mean, this prices don't seem so over the top, maybe for the US though

Too expensive! How can the local people afford these homes?

the prices are less than in Munich Germany. And Germany cannot be compared to Hawaii in life quality IMO. Munich is a greyish big European city like any bigger EU city. Pay is averaged around 2700$ after taxes

@@HansPeter-gx9ew The average wage-earner in Hawaii makes around $50,000 a year. Making a little more than that is not going to get you a million-dollar house. The average house price on Oahu is $1.1 million. BTW, my grandfather was from Munich. I've never been there.
