    Hi my grandpa was bohemian and always made us fruit dumplings with peaches and plums. I don't recall him using yeast yet that would make a lot of sense. We would top our dumplings off with butter and cinnamon sugar. He's been gone almost 50 years and the sad thing is no one bothered to ask him how he made them. I just remember him using a big bowl and a big wooden spoon and beating the dough for what seemed like forever. I just brought peaches home from the west side of the Rocky mountains. In the next few days I think I'm going to give it a try. My mom is going to be 94 and she's been requesting dumplings for so long.

    We make something similar in Hungary but we use Italian plum instead of blueberry. We put cinnamon-sugar inside the dough with the plum. It's delicious. I have to try the blueberry version too. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

    Honestly, I love watching and waiting for new videos because you have brought back so many recipes that I thought were lost forever. My father married an Irish woman, who hated to cook. My aunt ,father's sister who we lived with along with my TaTa (Old World family, 3 generations under one roof) hated to cook. So I always sat watching TaTa, who basically taught me everything I know about cooking. He would talk to me about other recipes but I never had the chance to learn them from him. and you have given me the chance!
    Thank you so much! I will let you know how my family likes all these wonderful recipes!

    Watching you cook, is like being in the kitchen with my grandmother, learning as a girl to cook my heritage foods. Our family made mostly peach and plum fruit dumplings. We also topped them with the bread crumbs, melted butter and sugar but slightly different than yours. We brown the the crumbs in small amount of melted butter. That goes over the top of the dumpling after we have cut it in pieces on our plate. We sprinkle a small amount of sugar and then drizzle with melted butter...I can smell and taste them now...Thank you for your recipes and videos.

    Does the Wondra change the flavor? I basically have this family recipe but it calls for Flour…not Wondra. THank you

    • @czechcookbook
      @czechcookbook  Před 2 lety

      Wondra is flour which is more coarse. Same coarse flour we use in the Czech Republic. We never make dumplings from all purpose flour which is super soft. Dumplings need coarse flour. I don’t think it is about the change of flavor but the lightness of these dumplings. Light and fluffy are in my book also tastier.

      +Katrina Jerabek I tried making regular dumplings with all purpose flour, they looked beautiful, but were too chewy. I would think it will be the same with these. I have the rule to do any type of dumplings only with Wondra. Also using all purpose flour would be different measurements since they both weight differently.
