We were lucky enough to find a box of completely hand-rolled pennies, meaning that anything could happen! One of our more exciting hunts for sure, and it was a blast! Coin roll hunting pennies is always a great time, especially when it's a competition coin roll hunt and EVEN MORE ESPECIALLY when you have a chance at finding someone's personal collection! :o

Quin's Coins my best coin was a 1947 silver quarter in the Customer wrapped roll
1977 silver kennedy in a roll of all 77's
1909 VDB. Also, last week I found four Indian heads in a box from my credit union (1903, 1904 and two 1907).
None
I found a 1700 year old coin in a coin roll. I thought it was an Indian Head cent. It looked like it was circulated 100 years
Just realized I made a mistake in classifying some of the Canadian cents. 1920-1936 are King George FIVE while 1937-1952 are King George SIX. I originally said that they were four and five respectively. Apologies to my Canadian friends!

Quin's Coins, what do you do with your copper pennies? I have about $100 in old, but uncollectible copper? Local coin shops don’t want it. Banks will give face value. Not sure why I’m weighing and saving. Can you provide any info as to why I should keep saving them? Mickey
You were at -1 at the start and you didn’t count that
If I'm not mistaken, 15 years ago the banks or stores would request that you put address and phone numbers on pennie rolls.

I remember writing my name and number down on all my rolls at BofA which was a bitch cause I didn't know about it till I got to the bank. Had at least $50 worth of pennies to deposit xD
They asked for my acct number on the rolls. They don’t do that anymore, thank goodness.

@@derekclawson5707 I use to coin roll boxes from the bank, but I was getting all the newly minted pennies from Loomis, so I quit coin roll hunting.
And I do think that 1959 is an error. Keep it. :)

Is it possible that 1959 penny was used as a fuse in the old style ceramic fuse box? I believe they were phased out in the mid 50's, but can still be found in electric stoves/ovens? I'm old enough to suspect the 'defect' is evidence of arcing voltage; possibly a solder deposit or slag. It is possible that penny killed some fool, an assertion that is speculative but impossible to disprove. Pennies like this were often used as evidence in insurance cases where fraudulent claimants denied tampering when the fire originated at the fuse box- irresponsible landlords sometimes killed their credulous tenants by employing the 'penny trick.' A penny for your thoughts?

I collect the 2009 pennies and i know the names, the Lincoln penny with him sitting on a log is called formative years and the one where hes standing near a building is called professional life and the one with a house is called birthplace and the one with the other building that doesn't have Lincoln standing next to it is called presidency

I love getting dimes in penny rolls! It's happened only a few times for me.
My name is Larry Kalb from Brick, Ocean County, NJ. I have always been a "Coin Roll Explorer" for many decades and with various denominations. On Friday, January 19, 2019, in a roll of pennies--I buy $10.00 at a times, sometimes $20.00 --I found a 1907 Indian Head Penny(Everything Readable), in addition to a 1929, 1935, 1936 and 1943 steel cent plus some Canadian pennies. Every now and then I find a foreign dime mixed with the rolls of pennies.

Oh, almost forgot. In case you didn't already know, keep an eye out for ddr's on the 09 formative years. Doubling appears as extra fingers or thumb on Lincoln's left hand.

I don't use anything for close ups, just my hands. My main camera is a canon t2i.

after just 6 weeks, I found my first Indian Head 1895 in a customer roll. I never thought that I would find one. not the best shape, but one that I will certainly keep

Even though this video is almost 3 years old I've enjoyed watching it. Love the competition between you two and the fact that you don't hide behind the camera like so many coin roll hunters on CZcams do. You've inspired me to do dual penny box hunts with my wife. She's not a collector but enjoys the search. We don't really do points. Just number of wheat's, Canadians and oldest. Keep the great videos coming!
I think they should be worth 7 points for the last number in the centennial anniversary year.
The 1959 Cent has what's called a "Lamination Error".
Basically the blank copper planchet that the coin is made from is defective
and flaked off a piece somewhere along the minting process.
If you Google lamination error you'll see other photos of coins with similar issues.
Best Racing Tips Win At The Dragstrip usually when I hear lamination, I think of these long streaks across the coin. But after looking a little more into it, I can totally see what you're saying there. Awesome!

I know this video is old, but I really enjoyed watching it! That 1959 could be an error, but it could also have been involved in a fire, with some molten metal dropping onto it.
'Lincoln Sitting there' ( I call it Abe Lincoln reads Shakespeare ) is 'formative years' it depicts lincoln when he was working as a railsplitter. The log cabin is Early Years .... born in a log cabin, the two buildings are different buildings, c'mon you can't vlog any more until you know these

Back in the day, many banks required account holders to write their name and account number on every roll of coins in case there were any short rolls once they got around to weighing them days later.

Hey man love your videos I just found a 1932 D Wheat penny yesterday pretty low mintage at only a little over 10 million. And i also found a 1926 Wheat thats my earliest. Great video btw man :)

For use as a tiebreaker you should count the "Defaced" coins good for a 1/2 a point.

Have you tried the ping test? It's where you flip a penny with your fingernail and if it rings it's copper but if it thuds it's zinc.

Now i guess i just feared they would mirror the 64 nickel in terms of commonality that they wouldnt be worth hoarding more than a few boxes. but hey if i can double up then lets hope my bank keeps sending them my way. We've only ever found 1 of the Canadian commemorative bird cents so I think it should be worth something extra (we may need to add that to our scoring too just in case lol). We recently added dimes to the scoring after 1 was found while making a video and caught me off guard because it wasn't on the list lol. Fun vid again Ryan, keep em coming man and we really need to find a way to do a CRH competition between a few of us on CZcams somehow! HH
+Coins for Amateurs we need to just do what all the other CZcamsrs do and have everyone just move to LA so we can collab all the time lol. But yeah I'm trying to think of an interesting way to do this over video call or something. Would probably require a lot of different camera angles and efficient file transfer methods. It's doable, but it'll be a challenge.

The Canadian Centennial is uncommon and I would think should be worth more points, similar to the points for the 2009 Lincolns. Although I do not remember what points you give those at the moment.

Maybe 10-15 points for the most unique cent but only one can use it and be voted on. Like a really worn cent, drilled hole, painted on, scribed with a name or drawing on one, something along that line.

I noticed you didn't have a definition for die cracks on your google doc. A die crack is when a die used to strike the coin cracks during use causing lines to be struck on the coin where the crack happened. Some die cracks demand a high premium depending on how early it was found in the minting process making it a rare or more common variety.
