You won't get any grief from Radiohead fans about Thom's height, he's a little pocket rocket and we love him for it.
To be fair though, Ed O'Brien is tall as fuck (6'5), which helps to make Thom look even shorter.
I love Thom’s dancing. I call it his mad pixie dance.
Just in case someone doesnt know....Jonny Greenwood is a freaking genius
Isn't he though? Every time I see him on the keys he's always hunched over like a mad scientist creating a monster.
Yeah. There's a guy in Blount Co., Alabama who didn't know it. I told him, though. So he's good now.
Thom Yorke was feeling' it, man!
Thom Yorke always feels it!
That instrument is an ONDES MARTENOT. 🙌 Jonny Greenwood is a genius. Love this performance!
Ostensibly the first "electronic" instrument. Invented 100 years ago by Martenot, an ex-soldier (radio communications) in the French army during WWI who would hear strange sound waves over the radio. He decided after the war to develop a musical instrument to simulate the sounds that inspired him. The OM went out of production in the mid-80s, so Jonny had duplicates made that he could take on the road.
It's an electronic replica based on an Ondes, but it's not a real Ondes Martenont
You tha real MVP!
@@SirPhilMcCrackinVonBeggington have your seen Jonny play the REAL Ondes? I have a DVD with him doing just that.
That last look from Thom says it all. He’s saying “Yeah, we just did that!”
Not too many bands could make Mozart and Zappa smile 🤘🏻
GREAT TAKE. 🤘🤘🤘
Love it.
I saw this the night it aired, I wasn’t a Radiohead fan at the time, but I was so awed by this performance that I was converted.
One of my favourite live performances of any artist or group on SNL. The music and specifically his performance just captivates you . It's hard to turn away because you just wanna see where he's gonna go with it.
Idioteque was even better from that SNL appearance. Jaw dropping.
One of the best SNL performances ever
Love anything with a prominent BARI SAX. Wonderful chaos. That could serve as the National Anthem for either country. I have read that REM is a huge influence, good catch.
Prog progressing, yes! Great use of horns.
BY FAR my favorite Radiohead song, and I love most of their songs. Just the utter abandon, controlled chaos. So reflective of a planet whose humans know it's whirling them down the drain.
I saw this on TV in 2001. Was my first time seeing Radiohead. They've been my favorite band ever since and I've seen them live three times.
Same here as several other comments; I knew there was a band called Radiohead that people adored. I saw this on SNL and then I understood
Ha, you guys would love the 'Kid A' album (especially Nathan), which in fact has a few purely electronic tracks. It was a complete turn away from their guitar-based alt-rock before and actually upset/disappointed some of their fanbase, who were hoping for 'OK Computer part 2'. It is certainly one of their most inventive and daring releases, and the first Radiohead album I bought myself.
Just bought kidamsisiac3 cd fuck yea
The fact that Kid A was number one on the billboard charts is crazy. I remember at the time all my friends were split. But fans were split over OKC as well. Lots of people wanted “The Bends pt 2.”
The Ex bought me this on day of release as I was already a fan. I sat there and laughed my Arse off at the whole album. I thought they had gone mad. Beautifully, majestically mad. I love this band like no other.
It’s been described as “the biggest left turn in rock history” and I think that phrase captures it nicely.
I bought it on the day of release and was profoundly disappointed having seen them twice on the ok computer tour. I only started to appreciate the genius of that left turn more latterly and by god it _is_ a staggeringly mountainous achievement. I love it.
Proud to admit I was very very wrong.
In Rainbows is equally mighty.
My goodness, this performance is incredible; the horns get me: every time! 🎶🎷 So many instruments, all in unison; killer!
Funny you mentioned REM. That was one of Thom's favorite bands/biggest influences growing up.
A story that the REM singer told Thom was the inspiration for "How to disappear completely"
I remember watching this episode of SNL specifically to see Radiohead and they f€££¥king killed it.
Jonny Greenwood is up for the Golden Globes this year, and is a hot ticket for the Oscars, for the music scores he composed for The Power of The Dog and Spencer. He was on the list a few years ago for Phantom Thread, and he also composed the score for There Will Be Blood and The Social Network. So he's a busy man.
Trent Reznor did Social Network score
@@patfinmield5971 So he did, my mistake, and he won the Oscar for it! Another awesome composer!
That 'There will be blood'-soundtrack is extraordinary. And super eerie!
Michael Stipe was a huge influence on Thom and Radiohead, especially for Kid A but also dealing with the fame of rockstardom. He told Thom to shut the blinds and say “I’m not here this isn’t happening” which Thom put as lyrics on How to Disappear (Credit Talking With Tom CZcams channel)
Tom Yorke walking around afterwards like an MMA fighter who just fucked somebody up.
How fucking awesome was THAT?!❤
I have been looking for THIS performance forever. This and Idiotque from that show. Please share the link! So good
if you do any other Radiohead song its got to be "How to disappear completely". Its their best song, according to the band.
This is my favourite Radiohead song.
Definitely check out one of their From The Basement performances! (Reckoner, Nude, Weird Fishes for example)
I love that as you are dissecting the song before hearing it, I see "ASSHAT and CORNDOG". LOL
My favorite Radiohead song!
Back when they straight looked and sounded like an alien ship had landed with a killer band. Why the Idioteque performance from this night is banned on YT is beyond me. Favorite footage of the band ever.
Pretty sure C Ronaldo got his celebration from Thom at the end there 😂
The only thing missing here is that Jonny's radio samples he's doing when he's not using the Odnes Martenot are not very prominent in this mix. Some of the other live cuts of this track are astounding. The Reading and the Bonnaroo ones stand out.
@Greg Hoopingarner Certainly possible
In Thom Yorke's performance there was a lot of Ian Curtis about him don't you think?
Great song
Love the Martenot that Jonny Greenwood is playing!
great reaction guys
❤️🤟🙏🤟❤️
Good call on Micheal Stipe there. Micheal is one of Thom's best friends and his mentor
Don’t lie. You came here because the snl performance got taken down
Greeting to both of you guyz!! Today, I'd love to suggest a brand new song entitled "Here Comes The Storm", from the French Canadian Black Metal band named "Obscurcis Romancia". Thank you very much and have a nice day!!!
Gotta listen to the album version.
Speaking of REM, you should check out that version of Lucky by Radiohead which has Michael Stipe doing guest vocals.
that weird delay effect on thoms voice at the start of the song is so based
Nice reaction fellas
❤️🤟🙏🤟❤️
Does this video still exist on youtube without people talking over it?
Poor you :(
I guess I'll be helpful instead of a dick like the uploader that replied 🤷♂️ If you Google "SNL 2000 archive Kate Hudson" you'll find a VHS recording of the full episode with music performances. Unfortunately, it's not the same quality as the one that used to be on CZcams, but it's better than nothing.
Btw Thom Yorke and Michael Stipe are great friends
awesome
not short in talent. 😁✌️
Sounds like club foot by kasabian.. similar bass line.. Radiohead are genius
Do anything from the basement sessions
Thom yorke🤟🏿
There is nothing fun about this. This was fuken killer. The SNL brass section sent this over the effin top...and Yorke was vibin' off that shite.
K
Bam bam bam badam bam bam...
Easily one of the best musical performances on SNL. I remember watching live and being completely blown the F away!!
There’s nothing better than short weirdo genius men.
music peaked with this performance. its all been downhill since.
I know how to allay further comparisons of Radiohead with Muse or Coldplay.
#Climbing_Up_The_Walls. It's chilling.
They didn't even play HALF OF THAT SONG!
Thom is really short, 5'5" I believe but Ed(the "other" guitar player) is something like 6'5" so it makes him seem even shorter.
Yes, God Save The Queen is the British national anthem, but it's complicated and many people in the member nations of the UK would choose different songs than that for their real national anthem.
👌👍💪
Nah he's short and ok with it
If you haven't already you MUST check out How to disappear completely
Thom.is like average height, but the thing is, that guitarist on his right, Ed, is like 6'4. Lol
That’ll do it
Thom isnt average he’s 5’5
Rasdiohead was never prog rock. This was just "in the moment" brilliance.
Radiohead is a progressive band, the Rush singer himself has said so
@@jorgekech Radiohead was never obsessively technical as most "prog rock" bands are. They were, however, progressive in that they were experimental and continuously evolving their sound.
Radiohead are a lot of things. But “prog” is not one of them.
Thom looks extremely embarrassing in this performance. Great music tho
