Jonny Greenwood, guitarist, bassist, keyboard... TV and radio player and more ...This live is crazy....love everything...
Lemon shaker
Also a drummer in bloom
Ondist
One of my favorite of their live performances. This is prime Thom, fully unhinged.
Jonny is playing a keyboard called les ondes martenot. You can find many vids about it. He also plays a radio station 📻
This
The keyboard instrument was an ondes martenot, an electronic instrument invented in 1928, which is not super obscure but it's obscure enough that I'd never heard of it until he started using one - as for the radio, I couldn't quite see here, it was usually a radio live but occasionally when it was a performance for tv he'd use a little portable telly instead.
Brilliance. Genius level music.
I watched this live. I feel very old now
Radiohead rabbit hole will be full of surprises.
No surprises please
Lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood is the definite Yang to Thom Yorke's Yin in the band...the true trained music genius (he does the orchestral scores for all of Paul Thomas Anderson's movies starting with "There Will Be Blood") and is one of the most highly sought out movie score guy in Hollywood - he has 2 Academy Award nominations - not a bad trait for your lead guitarist and a dozen other random instruments as needed - to have in his back pocket for a band. The instrument he dug up which is a huge part of their sound on many many tracks with the huge sonic landscapes, is when he plays that keyboard-like instrument called an Ondes Martneot - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ondes_Martenot - that maybe a couple dozen people in the world can play because they are beyond rare old devices. They allow you to slide through the notes with a ring on your finger and wiggle it for vibrato...but yeah, when he and 3rd guitarist Ed O'Brien - who focuses mainly on cool pedal induced guitar effected spacey sounds or doubles for the lead when needed - when he has long sustain all reverbed and delayed out and they both are playing those 2 instruments, that is one of the truly unique identifiably Radiohead sounds. Another great one to watch that is another full on smasher song where they do this is "Where I End and You Begin: Live from the Basement." Hadn't seen this in a long time, glad you did it man! You had a great take on it.
banging tune, saw them perform this live for NPR and it was awesome
I’m having a bad mental health day and binge watching your videos has helped me immensely. Thank you man
For me, this is one of the best live performances I've ever seen. It's up there with Fleetwood Mac performing 'Rhiannon' on the Midnight Special, it's that good. THC + headphones + this = bliss. 😊
There is a concert of this song in argentina 2009 (i think?) where thom puts more lyrics to the song, he kept saying "I'm alive I'm alive, why I feel alive" or at least that's why I heard, hope u watch it!
Freakin insane performance!! I really haven't gotten into Radiohead, my favorite is Creep. Exactly just like Eddie Vedder he is very different when he has his guitar. To me a little Zappa going on there, this is more chaotic!! Awesome reaction Rory thank You Rory and Anthony!! 😊💓🤘✌️
It's less Zappa and more Charles Mingus. Makes you wonder what the studio audience made of it after one listen.
Yeah that was evil sounding whatever that was that the dude was playing. Good performance…right up there with Jools Holland Paranoid Android in my books.
Made my day again Mate!
Shame about the copyright graphic, that’s why I gave the Vimeo link… guess that’s too dangerous for Utube though.
Another great reaction > keep em’ coming!
awesome performance ! never seen it before
He is indeed playing a radio
If you like that, check out "Bodysnatchers"
patrice o'neal = too good
yes.... it is almost certainly.... a radio. And the other instrument was a Theramin. Most famous song with a Theramin... Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys.
Why are you all doing his work for him mamma and papa?
