After broadcasting the college games for ABC, he landed on boxing quite by accident, he didn't know much, but then he grew with the sweet science, he really focus on the trade and became one of the very best, Good bye Jim, you shall be missed, I certainly will.

I've been a boxing fan for over 30 years and it doesn't get any better than Jim Lampley. He was always so humble and never upstaged his co-comentators or the color comentators. He is a great listener and was never to proud to admit he was wrong about something. He's up there with the best play by play guys in any sport in my opinion. I will miss his voice and his style more than anything. He called all the biggest and best fight. Thanks for all the memories Jim!

I been watching boxing on HBO since I was 8 years old. I’m now 42 and for the first time, I just cancelled my HBO subscription as well.
They should do a documentary on this man even though he is biased on many fights I love to watch his passion for the sport and understanding of boxers on what they sacrifice. Seldom do men cry on camera for professional boxers, he is something special to watch/listen to which is something you cannot say for a lot of boxing commentators.

Fuck that guy he was biased against canelo and I’ve heard people say he was biased against mayweather too. Listen I’m fine with someone calling a fight like it is. I don’t expect someone to be bias in favor of canelo because he’s the cash cow, but when you’re so constantly biased against him you make the stupid casuals at home think he lost his fight to GGG badly because you call fights in such a biased way that you have the home fans feelings like it’s 10 rounds to 2. Canelo definitely lost the first fight by 1-2 rounds but it was a close fight not the robbery all these stupid casuals were crying about. Canelo won the 2nd fight and you still had casuals screaming robbery ... why ... cause of Jim lampleys stupid commentary. It has impact on the home audience and at the end only affects the sport. Watch any canelo fight that jim lampley calls and you could just hear the dislike. Canelo could be absolutely dominating and if you’re just going by what lampley is saying you’d think he was getting beat tf up

Is it just me or im so used to the way hbo and showtime did there boxing match that i did not liked the way dazn broadcast the canelo rocky fight. To many undercard fights there broadcasters suck they had there national anthems with the boxers still in the locker room it was just all different and not in a good way i think.

No dis respect to you but I’ve been following the politics of the sport for years. The politics is just one aspect of boxing. What I was speaking about is the racism. The bias opinions of the commentators who influence the mass public, or casual and even core fans of the sport in a major way. This man has ruin himself and HBO. HBO boxing was destroyed from the inside-out. Due to the racism that the network allowed this man to display on live Tv covering a diverse sport. Which was foolish and counterproductive for business. See what people need to understand is that black people are not dumb. We can see a feel the racism weather in our personal lives or throughout the world abroad. We know what’s up. Maybe you don’t know but boxing has been racist from the start. Boxing started out just like all the other American sport without letting black men perform. Baseball, basketball, football, etc. For example the movie king was based on the life of a black Heavy weight Champion named Jack Johnson. Just do a little research and you will see.

I'm a 80's kid. born 89. Jim was already a decorated broadcaster by that time. Growing up in the 90's and early 00's I remember hearing his voice as a kid when my dad would watch the fights. Once his voice was heard I knew, it was fight time!! We'll miss you!!!!
My whole life I grew up listening to this man, boxing has been such an amazing experience with Jim there to call the action. What a true gift indeed he has been all these many years. As a 34-year-old English man, I'm sorry to see it end, HBO Is, was and always will be the place to watch boxing on American T.V and CZcams I enjoyed watching and listening to the many commentators past and present throughout the 45 years of their boxing history on HBO. Thanks for the memories HBO, thanks for the memories.
