Sean Lagunday Cotto was right in this instance. He understood his position and that he was the B side against Mayweather and Pacquiao. Against Martinez he was the A side obviously because he's the bigger revenue fighter and more popular obviously. Not difficult to understand really. Deontay Wilder needs to understand this too against Anthony Joshua. Joshua is the A side, he's the bigger revenue, the money is being made mostly because of Joshua so Wilder needs to cut out his 50/50 talk.

Mistr Dee Cotto was the WBO Welterweight Champion when he fought Manny and the WBA Jr. Middleweight Champion when he fought Floyd. It's just being stated that even though Cotto was the Champion on these occasions, he knew he was the B side because he wasn't as popular. I don't think anyone is saying that Cotto was better than Mayweather or Manny, but just commenting on the situation as to why Cotto knew he was the B side on these occasions even though he was the Champion during the fights with Floyd and Manny.
@@sportsfan4106 the difference is he wasn't treated like it on fight night. Rewatch the beginning of the fight if you don't believe me. Mayweather walked 1st and was introduced 1st. As he should've been. Cotto on the other hand against Trout and Martinez walked last and was introduced last. And both times he was the challenger

Colin Vaea Yeah Sergio is well spoken and all that, but he is not going to intimidate Miguel Cotto. Cotto is a warrior he doesn't give me a fuck about talkin shit or any of that. His focus and determination looks as strong as I have ever seen it. However, that has never been his problem, Cotto is good fighter but not a great fighter. His defense is flawed a bit and he is slower than Sergio which will be his downfall. Sergio will win this fight by majority decision in what I think we'll be a very close fight. Ironically Sergio will end up winning this fight ,in my opinion, by taking 3 of the last four rounds on the scorecards 9,11,12.

Yeah Martinez appeared alpha with his words. He's a stud. But pro boxers don't get intimidated especially an experienced world class fighter like Cotto. Pacquiao was slaughtered verbally by Bradley in their face-off but we all know that had no affect on Manny's performance.

he was never going to be healthy again from the knew surgery. see his documentary if its still on netflix. as far as Cotto, i will always respect him as a fighter but this was a calculated pick of a fight for him because he knew he wasn't physically 100%. And Martinez had no choice: he needed the money and this was his biggest payday by far.
I don't understand why most opponents can't face each other with RESPECT like these two. Both are accomplished champions and they are not arrogant. Martínez has a strong personality but he does back it up with his hard work, he may have flaws in his game but it's confidence in your training, not arrogance. Miguel is just too Smart and experienced to take it personal, they are not taking cheap shots at each other

I think Cotto is gonna win this. Seeing footage of Martinez rockin elbow and knee pads shows me a fighter who's still healing injuries. Cotto's gotta cut the ring off and make Martinez use his legs and get close enough to tax Martinez's body. As much as I like Martinez he makes a lot of careless mistakes. He's not the most fundamentally sound guy but his athleticism takes him a far way. Cotto's fighting the biggest fighter of his career (In a way. Margarito is taller but prob weighs lil less fight night) but Martinez isn't the best fighter Cotto's fought who I think is Mayweather. Size does make an issue but I think people will see Martinez isn't THAT much bigger. Cotto can't try to trade though, THAT I will say.

That was an intense face off. Going to anticipate a great fight on june 7th. Btw how come no one ever mentions cottos ko %? His got like 31 ko in 38 wins. Thats like nearly 82% as opposed to martinez only 55%. So if anything I rkn that lethal left hook to the body could drop and possibly ko martinez. Not to say that martinez also has the chance to just box cotto for 12 rounds, but don't think he could ko cotto though.

Trout out boxed Cotto and I'm inclined to believe that this fight could potentially look something like that one if a Cotto isn't careful. Cotto will need to apply intelligent pressure and cut the ring off and go to Martinez's body. Cotto will need to correct the mistakes he made in the Trout fight to have a good showing against Martinez; tighten up his defense, go to the body early and consistently and cut the ring off. Martinez has bad defense and might get winded towards the later rounds. But if this fight stays in the middle of the ring, it'll be a long night for Cotto
