Even Floyd Mayweather Sr admitted to Larry Merchant that Oscar beat his son inside the ring right after the fight was finished🤷If Floyd loses that fight then the whole trajectory of boxing would have changed for the better. De la hoya made mayweather wear those big heavyweight gloves instead of choosing any other gloves floyd was comfortable with. Watch them standing in front of each other and see how much bigger floyds gloves are. Floyds back was on the ropes because he wants to be on the ropes. He moves around the ring and he is so comfortable that he can lean on the ropes and not get hit. He was slipping in counter punches every time after oscar threw a bunch of punches. A perfect example is the 5th round when oscar was throwing and mayweather had him stumble, landing shots from oscar being so wild. He literally moves the same way in every fight. And how is this "picking opponents?" Oscar was the WBC light middleweight champion. He had been calling out de la hoya for YEARS before de la hoya actually fought him. Now i do think it was a close fight so im not saying mayweather won every round... but im curious.. what did your scorecard look like? which rounds did you give to oscar? It was a tough fight. His toughest fight to me. 7-5 Floyd.
Floyd’s face said it all lmao
@@raymondcody1858 you wanted Floyd to lose. That’s all that is lol. He didn’t. Get over it. 3 judges said otherwise in both fights. Fights that appear close. Somebody wins and somebody loses. And if Floyd lost I definitely wouldn’t crying about it 22 years later 😂😂😂😂. Clown. Get over it.
Floyd schooled him. If you think Oscar won that fight, you're counting punches that missed. Floyd cruised the championship rounds too
@@MrSupplementScene it was a tough fight, but Floyd got him 7-5.
Oscar still ain't over It 😂
Oscar lost!!!
Watch the fight back with 0 volume. Oscar did win that fight. Oscar was the effective aggressor. Oscar was the ring general. Oscar pressed the action and landed more punches. Floyd missed A LOT of punches in that fight. Floyd's back was against the ropes the entire time. Floyd hit Oscars gloves all night. Many of Floyd's punches were not landed punches even though they were counted as landed punches. Even Floyd Mayweather Sr admitted to Larry Merchant that Oscar beat his son inside the ring right after the fight was finished🤷If Floyd loses that fight then the whole trajectory of boxing would have changed for the better. Instead, we are now left with a sport where "picking opponents" is the norm and fighting the best is simply a thing of the past. But I scored the fight 115-113 for Oscar. Oscar won the middle rounds with ease. And keep in mind that Oscar was old at this time...And he STILL beat Mayweather imo💯
@@regularbob you wrote all that just to realize Oscar still Lost tho oh aight then
No, they robbed oscar with bought judges , stay asleep
@@regularbob yes please watch the fight with zero volume. Lampley and Merchant were HATING on floyd like a usual HBO fight. This was floyds first fight at 154 (came in weighing in at 150) and de la hoya outweighed him at least 15 pounds on fight night. Lederman is very accurate (imo) when it comes to judging and he still gave the fight mayweather. And who cares what mayweather sr said? Hes not a judge and he was barely a fighter lmao. Hes a great trainer but there was a lot of drama between mayweather and his father around that time. His dad had left his sons gym to get help another fighter cause he felt unappreciated in his sons camp. Of course he was salty lmao
He did
I always felt that Oscar was throwing too many punches and missed a lot. Just because you’re being aggressive doesn’t mean you’re better
Wanted a winning chance but put mayweather in damn near heavyweight gloves then chose the weight…..he was the A side as they say and put up a spectacular performance, left Floyd swollen but……. 🤷🏾♂️
Boxing scoring is kinda weird, yeah it is great to slip through punches but you still have to punch for points. Mayweather won a ton of fights just by slipping through with very minimal punches per round.
“Old 33 year old” is crazy
He had a lot of tough fights some boxer are young at 33 others are.old. Canelo is a bit worn for his age too.
@@letsgettothemarks that’s a fair way to put it, he does look different in his fights. I just don’t think 33 is old in general for fighters. I think saying he’s past his prime is more appropriate
I have watched back and scored this fight numerous times. And like many, i believe its Floyd's only loss. But, hey... officially undefeated. Not Floyd's fault
Absolutely
It was close going into 11-12. Oscar gassed and got outworked those rounds. 7-5 Floyd
watch the fight in slow motion you can see what punches landed and which ones didn't
You must be slow
I watched the fight with the TV upside down and its true, Oscar won the fight
@@shambles2723 i didn't say he won it. i just don't trust punchstats punches landed in general. oscar gassed out in the latter rounds.
Oscar you didn’t run hold and cry enough to score points. Like half his fights.
De La Hoya changes his mind about this fight every few years.
The fight could’ve gotten anyway. It’s closer than we remember, Mayweather even went on a fake retirement to avoid the rematch, and even Floyd se though his own son lost
@@mountaindew3201 he rematch didn’t happen because De La Hoya wanted him to agree to the same terms. He wasn’t willing to fight Floyd @ 47, but he killed him self to fight Manny @ that weight. Go figure.
@@NattyTurnaOfficial BS, theirs was a clause and mayweather went to fake retire to avoid the rematch. the weight class wasn’t an issue, de la Hoya would’ve done it at 147 since 155 was too much for Mayweather.
@@mountaindew3201 the money and weight was a issue. De La Hoya wouldn’t accept that yesterday’s price is not today’s price. He came back at the end of the year and fought Hatton, and proved that fact. You don’t know what you are talking about at all.
@@NattyTurnaOfficial the rematch was in no plans for 2007. But there was a clause that would’ve expired within 2 years. And that’s exactly what Mayweather did by going to his fake retirement and then he retired
Yeah he was the aggressor and throwing combinations but most of his punches were missing
Close close fight I did have De La Hoya by a point or at least deserved a draw
Delahoya definitely won
Oscar knows how American boxing is like. He's also aware how Vegas works. And how media trolls are like all together.
That doesn't work for black fighters everyone wants the black guy to lose
Oscar won that fight . I watched it live
As a Mexican American from East LA, Oscar had that in the bag through 8 rounds when he started cruising because he thought he won already
I was never a De La Hoya fan when he was fighting. But he definitely won that fight.
People forget at this point de la Hoya was inactive, towards the end of his career, and was previously KOed, pretty much over the hill and no where near what he once was.
Yeah, I wonder how a Prime De La Hoya woulda done on that night.
Because we all know hes a cokehead. Proves that dr*g is bad for our health
This is the most ridiculous comments section I’ve ever seen. I was an Oscar fan but Floyd clearly won. Oscar abandoned his jab late and that’s why he lost.
Boxers always think they won. He hella got beat😂
He didn’t coz he coasted the second half of the fight, left it to the judges and that his miscalculation
Floyd’s face says it all. He thought he lost
Now they're trying to do the same to Ryan Garcia. The "American media" attempts to discredit Garcia's win vs Haney.
Mayweather buys the judges and it was a steal ,De La Hoya won that fight
of course
Oscar whooped his ass it was close but Oscar whooped that ass.
I saw that fight floyd was stronger faster ..BUT the reason theres doubts was because fooyd really didnt use his speed and punches more often i mean fooyd condition was out of this world everytime he punch de la hoya was like ohh forget it he will eat de la hoya tonite BUT then u see him running not getting involved in the fight ect and hey i wouldn't mind if de la hoya get the decision but because de la hoya didnt dominate either it was ok if floyd win to me a draw would have been absolutely great for both specially for the la hoya
Close fight Mayweather edged Oscar but ducked Oscar for the rematch and retired
I scored it a draw I don’t think Floyd won
the reaction looked like floyd lost the fight .. in some world it made sense . Must earth still continue? 💪🙏
I'd have to rewatch it but it was pretty damn close, that's why Mayweather didn't want a rematch. Pretty lame for a prize fighter
He was the A side he made Floyd wear 🥊🥊 heavyweight 🥊🥊 gloves he was scared 😳 of Floyd
The challenger should KO the champion. If you go by score cards and it’s a close fight it should automatically go to the champion. That’s an unwritten rule in combat sports.
Gay weather for all the melanin brothers 😂😂
😅 Oscar was not even close. He never mentioned anything about the glove selection. Floyd couldn't even select his own gloves. How he wanted to handicap Floyd Mayweather . To throw alot of meaningless shots, is not the sweet science of boxing.
OSCAR WON !!!
YUP…THANK YOU
IVE SAID THIS SINCE THIS FIGHT
HAPPENED
judging by their faces at the end the fight, floyd took the most damage, but im guessing floyd still won it depending how u score it.
Oscar won, no doubts about it
Oscar won but was extremely close and Floyd getting it wasn’t a robbery
Oscar definitely beat Floyd.
Whomever thinks Oscar won this fight should give up watching Boxing. He lost about 8-4. Its the same kind of people who think Castillo was robbed.
It was a great fight. Wonder how much money Oscar made as fighter and promoter.
Oscar won hands down for me
F no he didn't win. Oscar is my favorite fighter of all-time. The second Oscar stopped the jab, he lost that fight....now if you wanna talk about the Trinidad fight, he easily won that fight eventhough he ran towards the end. He outclassed trinidad(when he stood with him)
I would have to go back and watch the fight Oscar was winning the fight early was working off his jab, then he stopped using his jab, and he was not landing when you went back and watched the fight. Floyd came back and won the fight, but he was clearly behind
To be fair, it was a fight that could have gone either way. Not the most entertaining.
nothing floyd does is entertaining
I had Floyd winning the fight by 1-2 rounds. Oscar won the first half with Floyd banking on the aging (also addicted) version of OScar gassing in the final half and he did. But man, one more round on 1 judges scorecard and that fight was a draw. Oscar was about 5-6 years past his prime too.
Watching it that night I thought Oscar won. Watching it years later I thought Floyd got it.
Why then you thought he won compared to now
Well you thought weong oscar won
So is a draw!? common you can't have it both way...Oscar won
That booger sugar and Caronas got you believing that
Watch when the ring announcer says and new… Floyds head drops thinking he lost…1:37
Oscar don’t try to make excuses now, you abandoned the jab because of Floyd’s famous counter-right, it was a great fight, and you lost a fair one. Don’t make excuses 15/16 years later. Floyd beat the best in boxing, from Maidana, to Pac Man to De La Hoya. The list goes on… Give respect where respect is deserved. 50-0. TBE
Oscar won that fight
De La Hoya definitely won
Oscar stopped using the jab. That’s why he lost. It was working so well. Then he just stopped using it.
his lock of technique avoided him from winning top fights
much respect to you oscar ,, you one of the best.. always a big fan...
Yall can debate about it all you want but that L still belongs to oscar 😅🤣🤣🤣😂
Now 33 is old🥱
Floyd knew he lost too
Floyd won, not by much it was clear. Cleaner shots, more accurate. Oscar was sloppier with the flurries. Im a oscar fan also. If oscar was more aggressive and a bit more accurate then he would’ve won.
Oscar won by outboxing Floyd by beating him n the inside counter punches Oscar always got the better of it Floyd sr himself said Oscar won by points so how do you explain that huh with excuses
