Only saw it last night, and was "spoilt" for two years, and it was good.
I watched too many trailers, and went in thinking it would just suck cause it's a random story and it's in between 3 & 4 so I was ready to point out every plot hole that exists.
I even questioned what the point of this movie would be.. But then I saw it, and thought it was a great adventure and a fantastic movie. A bit boring when giving it another go-through since I had excitement to see certain scenes.
I still haven't seen Solo.. I don't quite think that movie would be good.
I found rouge one the 4th best of all star wars films.

That last scene just proves how much we need a Darth Vader solo movie. It would be about Darth Vader hunting Jedi after episode 3. He would have to deal with taking orders from the higher ups, while he has to deal with his past. Have Jedi that he met in The Clone Wars show confront him, with Vader becoming more sinister as he kills more people.

Ninjagnome66 I'm against this, main reason is I subscribe to the idea that Vader only works in small bits of run time with huge payoffs last second, I feel that this is why they might have taken out some of those scenes we saw in the trailer. I'm not the only one who supports this theory, there are many CZcamsrs who do so as well, I don't know who came up with it but it makes sense from a cinematography perspective.
Best line of the movie: "Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director Krenic." -Darth Vader, force choking the Director.

Rogue One making the death star design flaw intentional is the best retcon ever.
A concept that has written about right after the origin SW came out. I think it was starlog that wrote a piece about it. OTOH, the DS would hardly be the first piece of military hardware with a flaw in it.

Personally I thought the part where Darth Vader rode a Wampa and controlled its movement with the force through that rebel flagship was the best part of the movie.
But their reaction when Rey showed up and scarfed it down like she hadn't eaten in a month was great! Then she beat them both in an arm wrestling match to see who had to buy the next round of green alien milk!

I actually liked that clip and was disappointed when I realized it wasn't in the film. This video didn't have the first line: "This is a rebellion isn't it? I rebel." It was edgy, and tied together the concept that some rebels were too extreme or reckless for the rebellion or that rebellion in small ways is also valuable--resisting arrest, etc.
I thought K2 was too huge. Very odd choice.

Rogue One wasn't perfect but, it *felt* like Star Wars should feel. Unlike every single minute of the sequel trilogy.
Blind nostalgia and empty fan service doesn't make it great. The sequels move the story on, which is far more interesting than "YOU REMEMBER THAT FROM THE OT HUH HUH?"

Is it ever explained what planet it is on? It would be a cool Idea if the Emperor intentionally had it constructed on Mustafar as a constant reminder of Vader's greatest failure.
Strong Bad the planet Vader' castle is on is Mustafar. Also, Vader wanted it built on Mustafar. The reminder of that being the place where he lost his fight against Obi Wan and the place where Padme died makes him much more connected with the Dark Side of the Force, and as a result he feels most comfortable there

I loved Rogue One. It is probably my favorite of the franchise.
It's interesting how this movie kind of gives you some context as to the political relevance of Luke blowing up the Death Star. Like, in the original Star Wars they briefly mention how the senate was recently dissolved, but in Rogue One it's made clear that there is very much still a public face to this government and most of the evil stuff is somewhat behind the scenes at this point. The revelation of the existence of the Death Star and it's subsequent destruction by everyone's favourite desert farm boy would not only be a huge tactical victory for the rebellion, it would instantly bring this war into the public eye. Hell, it might even be the single moment that escalates what was previously only a cold way or small civil uprising into a full blown "star war", as it were.

FlezzDurjis i think producers didn't like the movie, so they Made a prequel with the reshoots (and everyone was happy). This is an example where the producers Made the right move. I am not a fan of Rogue One, but many people seems to be.
I liked it for the most part, and I was happy they didn't use the "This is a rebellion, isn't it? I rebel" line in the final cut of the movie. That line made me cringe so hard I hurt my neck.
The entire final cut was cringe-tastic. Apart from the final 3 minutes.

I think taking out the parts where Jyn is running across the field of gunfire was a mistake. That would have been intense and felt like an actual war. To me, anyways.

Jin's bum required extra screen space to further develop audience investment in Jin's character. Not enough time on her ass in camera shot, when she's climbing to recover the deaf star data-disc, that bum... dammit Reynolds.
Obscure Entertainment they changed the movie, they didn't cut scenes.
The first version should exist, maybe excluding post-processing like missing special effects. But still, they could release it and I hope they put on the bluray as an additional directors cut or something, with or without post-processing. I mean there is money in it, so it's possible they'll do it, but I wouldn't bet on it

The trailers were why I didn't go see it. Saw it the other day not expecting too much and was completely surprised by how good it is. Darth Vader scene alone is worth the price. I was wrong to pre-judge. This is the film The Farce Awakens should have been. One for true Star Wars fans.
I wanted to see more of Saw Gerrera, his part in the trailer made the empire look like it was actually something to be feared and he also only played a small timed role in the movie.
You can't just give a guy a major part in the trailer and feature him for a few minutes in the actual movie.

That scene of Darth Vader is so sick. Just hearing his breathing and the low humming of his lightsaber was an eargasm
I would've liked to see the Krennic/Vader "Immeasurable Power" scene still in the movie
They decided Vader is not Krennic's bitch so why would Vader travel to Krennic to bitch-slap him? (the scene you see is krennic and vader on deathstar or scarrif command) So they made the more intelligent choice to ditch the scene and have Krennic act the bitch, and visit Vaders personal fortress for his slap down - which is much more appropriate.
To be fair, Tarkin killing him fits a lot more better. I like both options either way.

This could be reaching a bit, however do you think that the fact that Donnie Yens character could seemingly make blaster rounds miss him whilst chanting "I am one with the Force and the Force is with me" due to the fact that he had a large part to play in the completion of the mission and ultimately bringing balance to the force by allowing the next 3 movie to happen. Once he had completed his destiny, the force no longer protected him. Do you think that is could be said that the reason in the original films no-one got shot by storm troopers, who by the films own say so "And these blast points, too accurate for sand people. Only imperial storm troopers are so precise" was because the force was protecting the characters until they completed their own parts in bringing balance to the force.

He didn't get shot though, it was an explosion that killed him. That whole console that had the switch on it that he flipped blew up from something. Because his death bothered me a lot too, but when I rewatched the film again I noticed it wasn't a blaster that killed him.

To me it was like Michael Giacchino was forcing the score (lol force pun). It wasn't anything creative or new in terms of cinematic style, so in that sense I was disappointed. Clearly the tone of the music should evoke the classic SW soundtrack for continuity but it sounded like Giacchino was tiptoeing around the melodic content to create something new (variations on the original theme). He succeeded but it sounded corny and, again, forced
Rogue One was fantastic and Vader being shown as bad ass at the end was much needed!
Everything in this video sounds a whole lot better than anything that ended up in the final cut.
Something I would have like to have been included was, during the Vader hallway scene in the end, on of the troops, who realizes he's not getting out of this situation, gets a grenade off his belt has Vader approaches him, pulls the pin, and tries to blow up the Dark Lord suicide bomber style. Now, clearly, this would kill Vader, but it would damage him enough to explain he seemed to fight comparatively slower when confronting Obi-wan in A New Hope. Just a little something to explain why that fight wasn't as good say the final Revenge fight, which is something that the Nostalgia Critic brought up in one of his videos.

Examinedcat669 It also begs the question on why this film was even made? if not for pure fan boy service and a big paycheck for disney.. i mean we know pretty much Whats gona happen.. they get the plans... and defeat the empire.. in a new hope.. so the tension and suspense is pretty much null and void.. in R1.. Just saying.. i give them credit for diving a little deeper into the lore with vader and the jedi planet.. but that alone cânt hold up for a 2 hour film.. on top of that You really dont care for these characters... mabye jyn and donnie yen's character but even then its just not enough character development for me to give a shit.. Vader sold the trailer without him in the film ... it woulda been a bust... alo t of pissed off fan boys.. the ultimate problem tho to me is .. the film is 30 years too late.. it doesnt messh well with a new hope.. mainly because that film is 30 years old.. and it shows..

I have the slightest, yet most annoying pet-peeve with a slightly cut scene, which is the Tie Fighter rising to face Jyn-bit. They could easily have kept that shot, in all its glory and meaning, with the Tie Rising to meet her and her shooting at it or at least raising her gun to fire and have it fire at least once, grazing or missing her just by a hair and at the last second Blue Leader General whatshisname comes flying by, destroying the tie only to be shot down right after as a noble sacrifice to save her, keeping with the theme of the film and making his death seem a bit more meaningful. It doesn't take away from her agency either, as she's prepared to die fighting it but her mission isn't over yet as she's still got to re-align the dish and send up the plans.
The book also could've done with the actual canonization of Leera being force-sensitive, yet never trained as a Jedi. She helps find Kyber Crystals for Galen and the empire until her force sensitivity and connection to the (new canon) purity and force-sensitive crystals tells her that what she and Galen are doing is wrong. She convinces Galen, they leave, she's got her own background and purpose as a character rather that, ya know, just dying in the beginning.
I would have loved to see those missing Vader scenes where he's actually ON the Death Star, with Krennic talking to him. It could have been redundant with the Tarkin scenes though

I'd love to see Vaders castle turn up in Episode 8 as somewhere Kylo Ren uses as a hideaway but it's all rundown and disheveled. He could use the Sith power source underneath as a way to further himself or possibly corrupt Rey
