You can improve your mood by cultivating more beneficial gut bacteria.

2:05 You lose your microflora mainly because of antibiotics
3:19 Hereâs what you can do to improve your anxiety, stress, and worry
In this video, Iâll explain the tight connection between your gut bacteria and your mood, specifically anxiety, stress, and worry. But thereâs also a connection with your cognitive functions including lack of focus or concentration. If you donât have all the microflora - the friendly bacteria bifidobacterium and lactobacillus - in your gut, you could end up with problems with your brain chemistry.
What if thereâs no obvious reason why youâre experiencing anxiety, stress, or worry? It may be a lack of friendly gut bacteria. They make proteins; specifically, neurotransmitters that travel through your nervous system.
One of these is GABA. If you lack it you could be depressed. Thereâs also serotonin, 90 per cent of which is made in your gut. Then you have something called the enteric nervous system. In seminars, Iâve discussed the fight or flight response which is part of the sympathetic nervous system, as well as the rest and digest response of the parasympathetic nervous system.
Well, thereâs actually a third part of the autonomic nervous system - the enteric nervous system, which is the connection between the nerves in your gut and in your brain.
So how do you lose your good microflora? Mainly because of antibiotics, either one you take or ones found in the commercial meat products you consume. This is why I recommend organic meats only. Plus, they contain no insecticides or pesticides and arenât GMO.
Artificial sweeteners also greatly affect your gut bacteria. Lastly, so too do GMO foods. Weâre all affected by these . Glyphosate residues is harmful.
Hereâs what you can do to improve your anxiety, stress, and worry:
Take a probiotic that includes bifidobacterium and lactobacillus
Take a prebiotic with the probiotic; sauerkraut, kimchi, or other fermented vegetables
Avoid the things Iâve mentioned that destroy your gut bacteria, but also laxatives and similar products
See how strong the connection is between your gut bacteria and mood?

Hi dad!
"ALL disease begins in the Gut".
Thanks Doc !
This is what ayurveda saying from last 5000 years.
No kidding. Iâve heard that before from a religion class.
Hippocrates "All disease start in the gut. If your gut is sick, the rest of your body is sick.."
The gut is the illness house
Even a blood clot in the brain? An ear infection? Herpes? Acne? A stroke? A migraine?
I appreciate your good information. As a police officer I see more and more people experiencing panic attacks, and chronic anxiety. This topic doesn't get enough attention.
Dear doctor, This is the problem I had been having for years. I used to have anxiety depression without reason. After using Probiotic, I dont have anxiety. I feel greatđ
Brain-Gut relation has vital importance.
Well done on ridding yourself of anxiety, it's truly horrible. Which probiotic have you found to be successful?
What probiotics you use?
@@Pammie143 Abdul Haseeb Ä°t include varieties of bifidobacterium and lactobacillius
@@enderbilsen915 How long did it take you to see the effects? Happy for you!
@@TheBoomshine If I may help, for you and anyone reading. I absolutely am not promoting a product. I have a buddy who is holistic MD. He recommended this specific probiotic for depression/anxiety: $50-$60 AmazonâŠ.Mega Sporebiotic. I didnât ask why he picked that one.
It promotes itself as a probiotic that can survive gastric juices and reach your intestine AND it doesnât need refrigerated.
This stuff worked so well for me I easily quit nicotine. I had no intention of stopping vaping, it just happened. I theorize the extra neurotransmitters I was getting from the gut micro biome replaced the ones I was losing from the nicotine.
I donât know if the bacteria in these probiotics match the ones in the video. Iâm only here to share my singular experience.
To answer the question above, I noticed it after 3-4 weeks.

Please tell how thanks??
Very pleased for you.
Makes perfect sense . Trust your gut. Your stomach tells you.
you probably think with your stomach
It absolutely does! Here are the signs from your gut that your gut is healthy: colon transit time of 12-24 hours, type 4 stool on the Bristol stool chart, not having diarrhea or constipation, having 1-3 bowel movements per day, and light-dark brown colored stools!
Wow this is insane. I have so much anxiety and stress and have bad lack of focus and concentration. I had a stool test done and I am low in numerous types of bacteria and maybe this is why Iâm having these other mental health symptoms. This was so eye-opening thank you so much for making this video.
What have u done to fix this
What suppliment you take âïž
I'm dealing with anxiety gut thing 3 days in a row since I got new job each day my body wanting the toilet regardless if I have nervers or not, so it's like it replicates the previous days
So breaking this cycle is the challenge, telling my body to relax and its ok. Any ideas
Take natural vegetable juices like bottle guard in empty stomach every morning
The video was wonderful! most people with problems think it's all in their head, but it's not, it's all in the gut.
very few doctors will tell you that, or even know it.
Many people are under the impression that we need to be on anti-anxiety meds but eating the right foods and getting a lot of exercise...much better for us in the long run.
How do I stop the bloating ?
@@jerryweatherman7468 eat a lot of fiber.
@@jerryweatherman7468Depending on what the cause of the bloating is, fiber can actually make bloating worse. A very common cause for bloating is a vitamin B1 deficiency. Try taking a non fortified nutritional yeast supplement. I buy the unfortified flakes and mix it was peanut butter. You only need about a teaspoon of nutritional yeast a day but you may want to bump it up to a couple tsp or a tablespoon at first in order to replenish your B1 supply quickly.
I am grateful for Doctor/Teachers like Dr. Berg and Dr. Mandell. If there were more like these awesome doctors, What a better world it would be.
Agreed. Also, Dr John Bergman.
He stopped seeing patients to spend more time educating us.

Totally! There are a few issues that have to do with nutrition that can result in anxiety! For example, hormone imbalances, caffeine consumption, food sensitivities, and nutritional deficiencies (like with magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin B6, serine, choline, copper, chromium, selenium, and zinc), can all lead to anxiety!
Thank you, Dr for ending my 18 months long struggle with great information on digestion and how it impacts neurotransmitters.

Hello Dr Berg,
I've recently started watching your channel and I'm impressed with your no nonsense style of explaining the subjects yet technical enough to make the point.
I've forwarded to folks who I know are struggling with the issues you've covered.
I was an engineer for big pharma and do not take any meds but as Hippocrates said, let your food be your medicine.
I do take many supplements though.
Thanks for these videos and its an Excellant way of reaching the masses to improve their lives.

I have Adrenal Fatigue, and I can finally understand lots of what is happening in my body. Thank you! Keep making instructional videos to help mental sickness
I really respect you so thanks for doing a video on this and confirming this brain gut connection. I am coming off antibiotics and never could have imagined my thoughts and feelings could be connected to this.
Great information! That would explain why I've been so much happier and energetic since I've been drinking raw milk every day from cows raised on pasture that are completely organic and never fed grain or antibiotics or anything. Plus been eating homemade fermented sauerkraut! Anxiety has been a huge issue for me. Thanks for the video!
This is such helpful information. I wish all people who suffer from mental illness can watch this video and follow the advice given.
Thank you Dr Berg.
Great information to know. As a person with chronic anxiety and stress it makes me feel more comfort in knowing how to prevent some of these triggers. Thank you!
Mmarr, How are you now? Be careful what you feed your mind. To feel better reduce negative thoughts and overthinking. Avoid comparing, reduce negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed, avoid moving too much and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Never meditate with expectations but with awareness. Donât fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Observe your breath sensations before sleep, when reading, in the kitchen, when taking a walk etc -----anytime-anywhere. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Best wishes--Counsellor.
Recommending kimchi/pickles and sauerkraut was very helpful to get pre/probiotics. I personally noticed a huge difference in regularity when taking ox-bile. I suffer greatly from anxiety and always have - so appreciated this video - thanks.
Very good topic. I have always thought when I had depression I didn't eat well and it caused anxiety...I learned to exercise for depression and eat well for anxiety. I'm really enjoying these segments I have learned so much about my health and great things to pass along to my family and friends or whoever needs help. Thank you!
I sign this! I am a former workaholic and have also been involved in fatigue syndrome and this has affected my stomach and took time to get in order!

God bless everyone! Gut health is so important, thank you Dr. Berg! I wanna say that childhood issues can cause stress in adult life, and addressing and healing those help a lot in quality of life. For example if your home was unsafe (emotionally, physically etc due to abuse/neglect) and you were anxious when waking or going to bed as a kid, that could carry into your adulthood and give you stress for no apparent reason.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE INFORMATION THAT YOU UNSELFISHLY GIVE US! GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
Iâve been dealing with Candida and food allergies for decades. I donât even know what I can tolerate eating anymore. Because of all the poisonous chemicals in our air, water and pesticides I donât even think organic foods are truly ORGANIC anymore.
I know that sometimes they grow organically but in soul that was previously contaminated which defeats the whole purpose! Itâs pretty hard to find land that has never been contaminated these days.
Well that sucks I was hoping making my own garden and growing my own food would be better
I would recommend taking Saccharomyces Boulardii if you don't already. I use the Pure Therapro brand because it is pharmaceutical grade. After I started taking Saccharomyces Boulardii my ezcema and itchy patches cleared up. Then I gave up grains on the Whole 30 diet. I recently tested "normal" for Candida, even though I had had candida issues for over a decade and I tried everything else to get rid of it and nothing worked. I believe it was the SB that made the difference, even before I gave up grains.
If you read the reviews for Saccharomyces Boulardii - the Pure T brand, and the Jarrow brand - and you will see that others were helped in the same way.
btw, I also use ION GUT HEALTH and stomach enzymes [pure synergy brand]. Apparently, enzymes can work if you take on an empty stomach and don't eat.
Best of luck!!
I couldnt out logic my anxiety, that's when I knew there was something else there.
