Arnold made Hollywood action stars JACKED

- The modern actor is now expected to transform their body to play superheroes and roles in action movies. But when Arnold started his acting career, his massive size was a real problem.
But the success of Pumping Iron led to an explosion of muscular action stars in the 80s.
In the 70s, actors worked out secretly to give the impression of being naturally strong, rather than it being a result of training.

What's your favourite action movie?
Would you agree 1 to 2 hours a day is eno ugh to look like them? My favorite action movie are the Terminator series.
Predator is one of the best
First Blood Part II. Mainly Stallone's insane preparation on his body for the role.
@@traviswilcox3472It's timeless
Gotta be Predator, though the 80s created a bunch of classics. From First Blood to Bloodsport, and even into the early 90s with Terminator 2.
The success of Pumping Iron is largely due to Arnold's charisma.
💯 facts.
I'd also would have love to see Serge Nubrey in it too.
Unfortunately the producers didn't took him as they should have (disrespectful money offer) probably because he was black👎
And some steroids too.
I went to the premier of Pumping Iron in Century City with the gym I was working for. It got me inspired to Pump iron and I'm now 65 and still work out 6 days a week. It's the best!
1000%
And the introduction of steroids but you’re not wrong.
The 80's and 90's were the best decades for action films.
By far the 80s and 90s are the best. Action movies will never reach what they were during that time in my opinion. To many great action stars during that time
I don't know about that, choreography has gone so much further, it's just that Hollywood is no longer the centre of most of the truly good action films. Like, the Raid Redemption is one of the best action films ever produced, and has some of the most complex and lengthy action sequences ever put on film. That could never happen in the 80s/90s, where the choreography was more "Hulk Smash" than anything else.
@@AveSicariusif you could just combine the testosterone of the 80s with choreography of today it would be genre defining no cap
@@AveSicarius*green screen*has gone much father and today’s actors are anemic, pint sized pansies.
Action and horror films
Respect to muscular action stars. Thanks Arnold & Sylvester❤
It really was cause of 80s action stars, and yet I still find 80s action stars more aesthetic than today
They taught something an entire generation are yearning to see: strength when it is easy for many, even the hero, to be weak. That sometimes there are things which we are designed to say, “I bleed for this.”
God rest
А Ван дам? А лунгран?

Hmmm Oooh Lord🤦♂️!…
Today, Hollywood wants people like Dylan Mulvaney typical character to be the face of the new generation😢…
And Jean-Claude Van Damme

Benedict Cumberbatch & Tom Holland: hold my beer

Steve Reeves was the first bodybuilder to be put in film and actually gave the impression that muscular men should be put into certain roles. With the rise of comic book based movies, the actors/actresses have to depict what they appear like in the lore. There are still action movies where you don’t have to be a super muscular figure but still able to perform the action in the scenes

@@Doomstroyer42X a great as well
@@c.galindo9639 I thought he was considered the first bodybuilder? I know he was a strongman too.

@@c.galindo9639 I'm not so certain about that, he was just leaner thus looking more aesthetic, he has also done posing photoshoots.
Actors having to bulk up for a role isn't new. When Christopher Reeve was chosen to be Superman he was only 170 pounds and he didn't want to wear a suit with fake muscles so the British bodybuilding champion that wore the Darth Vader suit was brought in to train him and when it was time to shoot Christopher Reeve went from being 170 to 225 pounds
Technically both of those were after Arnold started acting. His first film was a Hercules movie in the 60's followed by Conan.
And skinny people keep arguing with me that it's impossible to ever be muscular bc of genetics
@@michaelmccarthy579 Hercules in New York was 1970, Stay Hungry was in 1976 Pumping Iron was in 1977, Superman was 1978, Conan was 1982
Vader… Believe that was David Prowse. Built like a S brick house but a very nice, humble man by all accounts.
@@nuntana2 yep. That was the guy that trained Christopher Reeve
And then there is Keanu Reeves playing John Wick.
Keanu is in good shape but he doesn't need to be muscular since all his scenes have him in a tuxedo anyways
Kinda true he's not very muscle bound is he
Tom Cruise ain’t muscle bound and he’s short yet he made it happen still as an action star still too.
@@datsapaddlintom cruise was muscular man. Very few action movie stars are skinny. Keanu reeves is the perfect slim action movie role

We were all pretty bummed out when Robert Pattinson refused to bulk for batman, but I heard he made it work
It's annoying when they are bulky but don't have the training for movement and fighting though. A cow looks big but isn't as intimidating as a panther...
@@B1gBossMan Refused to "bulk" haha 💉 we all know the type of bulking Hollywood wants you to do.

Bruce Lee was the original and the god father of lean muscles on screen. Even body builders at the time were blowned away by the details on Bruce's physic. Plus, Bruce knew how to make muscles look badazz on screen and shot in the right lighting. But more important, his masterful martial arts movement made his movements super smooth and explosive that hasnt been match even by today.
Arnold wow.... Only 80s and 90s generation can understand what a gem this man is !
My grandpa and father knew Arnold, his ego really turns me off. Yes you are massive and a huge star, no humility.
I just remember Lou Ferrigno. In the documentary Pumping Iron, that dude was a freaking beast.
Steve Reeves was already 1 of the biggest box office draws in the world b4 Ahnuld touched a weight, Reeves actually created the peplum industry, incl. 4 Ahnuld's idol, Reg Park.
Exactly. I've gone back and watched some of those Hercules movies because they were before my time. It's been fascinating to see the evolution.
You are missing his point. Reeves was the outlier. Wayne, Eastwood, McQueen etc. those guys were what was common.
Man he just name bunch legends I grew up watching
To this day, Arnold is the only action hero I've ever seen who isn't afraid to put his max bench, and for that, I will always respect my spirit brother for doing that.
The way he pronounced Van Dam cracked me up 😂😂😂😂
He's saying it correctly, ie how a European would say it. Correct pronunciation is not "van damn" which is the Americanised way, it's "vun dum (van damme)"....the "a" vowel in most euro languages is a "uh" sound
Van Damme is Belgian, that's the right way to pronounce it. Being an Austrian, Arnold knows
@@davidkymdell452No neither of you are correct, van damme is pronounced with french a, which is not uh. English doesnt have that sound

Beginning with the movie "Pumping Iron" ,ALL the male, and female stars have to be pumped, ripped, or both. I was already bodybuilding when "Conan The Barbarian" came to the theaters in 82. After that movie I had many people ask me how they can get pumped. Arnold Schwarzenegger came to America with less than 100 bucks to his name. Since then he has conquered the world in bodybuilding, movies, and California politics. Very few, if anyone EVER made the most of the so called "American Dream" than The Austrian Oak. 👑💪
Conquering Cali politics isn't really bragging rights. California is a sh1thole.
