The doctors teachers, equipment manufacturers, store owners, Firefighters, nurses, Truck drivers, construction people and every paying job that allows people to buy the food the farmers grow. Without them the farms become 1 acre mule plowed plots behind each farm sheds outhouse. .... farmers are important but not more important than any of the other people.

He is right. My mum was always sick and we were poor, no one had even graduated highschool in my family. At 5, I knew that I had to become a doctor to help my mom. My parents moved me from my beloved homeland and soon I went to Vietnam to fight. But I did become a doctor and when my mom developed esophageal cancer, I arranged for her to have the best surgical and medical care at Mass General. My wife and I then cared for her in our home for one year and she survived 10 years, rare for her cancer. When it returned, we cared for her for another year at home ensuring her suffering was minimal and that she received all the best support. At the end after not eating for a while and not being out of bed, she asked for some broth, sat at the table and ate it. Then mum wanted to go for a drive to her beloved beach and we did. She relaxed and smiled, kissed us, and later that night died. We scattered her ashes in the ocean. My vision at 5 years old was accomplished and completed.

I wanted to be a soldier and I wanted to be in law enforcement. I worked for it and I did it. What he is saying breaks down to if you don't like it then change it. I walked away with a degree - first in my family to do so. 'I need to do this' -> Not actually doing it -> 'I really need to do this' -> Feeling stronger resistance -> 'I need to do this no matter what' -> Feeling self-remorse
But through relaxation, your action patterns will change as the following:
'I should do this' -> Not actually doing it -> Relaxation -> Feeling lower resistance
In such a way, you break away from the pattern of increasing your level of resistance, and create an opportunity to at least begin the work you need to do

It never blemished his career to the point where he was an outcast. He moved on and so did everyone else and that's what's supposed to happen. I'm always amazed at how judgmental people are, as if their life is so friggin perfect and they've never made mistakes. Not everyone is the son of a police chief. Schwarzenegger has said that his father had "no patience for listening or understanding your problems". To which I say: Like father, like son. It is quite beyond his comprehension, and that of many other mouthpieces for privilege, that the overwhelming majority of people in the wide world are at a basic survival level, in order to support pontificating parasites, and have little to no time for anything else. Remove the props and the supporting framework for the vaunted 2%, and then where would they be? Frantically looking for ways to survive, maybe?

Arnold was also lucky that his goals and DNA matched. He said himself that he happened to have the right DNA to build the body that he did, otherwise he wouldn't have won Mr Universe and maybe we would have never heard of him. In Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, it's proved that success is a combination of circumstances outside our control as well as personal traits. For Arnold, it worked out well that a director wanted to make Conan just as he started his acting career. Maybe he would have been successful no matter what, or maybe he could have been even more successful under different circumstances, but simply having a vision and acting on it doesn't alone create success. He is speaking from the winners podium, as someone who made it, not as the many people who did everything exactly right and failed. So success can only be defined as having done everything right, despite hardship and trials, not simply on being nuimber 1.

There are countless people who gravitate to places like California to pursue their dreams in show business….the huge majority fail.
To his credit, AS was a hard worker and did not give up in the early going when it mattered the most. But it wasn’t just his doing, and plain luck no doubt played a big part in his career at that point in time…..once he hit it big, then people came to him… but it wasn’t just his sole efforts that put him over, as you alluded to.

Absolutely. We don’t hear about the people who had a goal and worked hard toward it and then got an injury, or had a family crisis, or another disaster intervened, and they couldn’t accomplish it. Because they didn’t make it, they don’t have a platform to make a speech about the 20 years they spent on inventions that never made money for them. And what about those like Van Gough whose success didn’t come until after their deaths? It may depend on how you define “success.”
BTW Arnold, that accent removal class didn’t work, despite all your hard work! 😀 Don’t get me wrong, I like him. I think positive thinking is a good thing overall. He just doesn’t seem to acknowledge how much luck plays into it.

The war ended and he had a choice to stay and complete or just get discharged and go home. Sadly he went home and I saw the regret in his eyes. Who knows I might not have existed if he stayed in.
