I’ve never gone for the head to toe Ralph Lauren faux “old money” look. Impeccable tailoring, high-end fabrics, classic styles that feels like you were born wearing it.
I think that at this point we've all missed the point about elegance. Being elegant and classy is not about looking "old money" at all, there are so many styles and all of them can be classy as long as we know how to combine them appropriately

I was in Switzerland on the Chocolate Train tour. There was a couple sitting across the aisle come me. She was dressed so nicely- she exudes class. So did her husband. Their clothing was nothing special but it fit perfectly it looked exceedingly comfortable and they looked liked they knew how to take care of themselves- like they have had money for a long time. No brands necessary. No extra trying.
I have a question for you, when you said no brands necessary do you mean...she wore no brands? also how would you know if she wore brands? I am asking because, if someone wears a luxury item (which is branded even without logos) are they now classless?

I worked in a high net worth environment for many years. I knew a billionaire’s wife who wore a fake Birkin. Was bought unintentionally from a website but once discovered wore it as an “inside” joke!! Equally, I knew a Swiss billionaire who wore the same old scruffy anorak with his £250k watch underneath but would still get his trousers and suits tailored by Zegna. If you’re really old money you have the nonchalance and savoir faire to break the rules in “good taste”. A lot of the time these individuals don’t want to draw attention to themselves and will know how to downplay their wealth and status when going about their daily lives.

because I don't have to wear based on what's trendy these days, I'm referring to the ''splash of bad taste''
but, at the same time we don't have to dress up like someone just to pretend we're one of them, like the stereotyped old money ''aesthetic'' and nothing wrong with the way we used to see them wear, cause this is their life, and it's not aesthetic like people turn everything to be an aesthetic
Honestly I like old money style, for most people it is easily achived also with little money.
One reason I care for this "quiet luxury" trend is that it seems to be restoring some sort of respect for elegance and style. It's nice to see young people looking less like slobs. Now I wish that middle-agers go there too! In this post-Covid (I hope it's "post") era, it's so pleasant to see that the pre-Covid "casual Friday," which devolved into "Sweats and Ts" Fridays, become more mindful dressing.
That said, I agree that it can get over-the-top. But at least we don't have to see the loud logos anymore, especially on obvious fakes.

I like the true, honest elements of Old Money style: buying high-quality and timeless clothing and accessories. It’s become an aesthetic, but it’s always been about these two values: quality and longevity. If you apply these values to your wardrobe purchasing, you can’t go far wrong, they make for a useful and long-lasting wardrobe.
Once again, Anna hits the issue head on. Communicating personal integrity is what makes us look confident. Trying too hard in anyway diminishes our credibility socially and professionally. Thank you, Anna!
Of all the trends that come and go over the decades, this one at least has longevity. You can literally repurpose the “old money” style pieces FOREVER. Therefore I’m glad it’s running it’s course and lots of ladies will have some timeless staples for years to come (hopefully). There’s so many terrible trends that come and go, it’s a breath of fresh air to see people care about dressing nice for a bit.😉
Yeah, you're right. That's better if you have a decent wardrobe. You can do that with all of the old money pieces. But for me, personally, myself, the blazer, no.
It really shouts "stereotype", especially if you have a small wardrobe and you'll wear it often. If you have a huge wardrobe, sure. I have a walk in closet but my wardrobe is at minimal because I am looking to take off poor quality stuff.
I want my fabric thick, also, putting away t-shirts, even ones that shout "Gucci". Saying "bye bye" to all of that.
I am also engaging in Kibbe body types, and basing my selection on that, also, my inverted triangle body type. My style also, "smart casual". I am joining those style methods and will choose my clothes based on what looks good on my body. I am binge watching Anna Bey too. 😂
True! Lucky for me that I look very natural in all the classics! People always compliment me even when I'm just wearing navy trousers and a striped blouse! So easy. I live in Boston so maybe that helps. Who cares anyway😊

I actually really love this trend. It makes pieces more affordable. I like mixing this style with gothic pieces for an unexpected twist. It elevates the goth while giving the preppy some edge.
Same. There's been more elegant designed pieces by affordable brands than before whereas before they targeted the underdressed styling. Of course like anna says, you have to stylise it and make it your own. Lately I've been following some flamboyant elegant older ladies that like to experiment with fashion and it's been very inspiring.

Honestly, seeing the daily, sloppy yoga pant wearing world these days, a little old money style only comes across as costumey and out of place because it is in sharp contrast to the sloppy, sweatpants, outdoor pajama wearing public! Give me old money, classic beautiful clothes any day of the week! I can only hope and even pray that the Ralph Lauren, Talbots and Brooks Bros ads prevail and once again steep into everyday society! Same here. I also don't like fast fashion. The pressure of everyone doing it can sometimes make you want to do it without considering if you really like it or not. These days I just stick to what I like and that's healthy.
People really need to stop following trends and just be who they truly are.

I do a limited color range in high quality fabrics and knits. I think about the price per wear, upkeep (dry cleaning), does it flatter me, etc. So I do cashmere, pima cotton, am adding linen, and good quality dark wide leg jeans. Converse sneakers and silk scarves. Silver jewelry with pearls, czs, and abalone. A sweater on your shoulders can make you look like a line backer. I only do thin belts. And if a color looks good on me (pink grapefruit, cranberry, navy) I'm going to wear it forever!!😊😊😊
My style is and has always been classic. Small fine jewelry, not too much of it. I do love vintage luxury bags not often seen anymore. I am alway willing to learn more about style. May I add a genuine smile and true interest in the people we meet goes a long way. All people deserve respect, not just the wealthy.
Looking natural is the key to whatever aesthetic you choose to wear - too many women, particularly those who chase TikTok fashion trends, will pick out clothes like they are dressing up as a character and put on everything all at once. Instead we should experiment and just dabble into the aesthetics that appeal to us. One or two pieces at a time, essentially trying it on, rather than fully immersing into it
Just dress like you're not trying to impress somebody. Less is more. I can remember many occasions where I felt like I needed to add something else, but Anna has taught me to keep it simple and that's what makes you feel like it's not a weight on your shoulders when you style yourself before your feet hits the floor in the morning. Typically, I look like this. Preppy since the 70’s. In and out of style. It’s me. Now with this old money aesthetic, I feel like a copy of me. Fortunately, my friends and family and wider community know it’s me. As far as people on the street, I don’t know if they can tell I’m authentic or not. I hope so. I’m used to getting stares bc I’m out of style. Not bc I’m Too in style 😂
There is an old eight-point system for dressing that I think still holds true even today. It goes like this:
The basis of the rule is that each piece of clothing or accessory has a certain number of points designated to it based on the “wow factor.” A neutral piece like a pair of gray pants or a black jacket would be a “1” whereas a floral dress or red stilettos might be a “2.” Makeup,and hairstyle count for points as well. I have curly blond hair and love to wear red lipstick, so that might be an extra 3 points right there. Accessories like sunglasses and jewelry add up too. I always strive to be at 8 points or under and am usually happy with the results. Thank you, Anna, for your wisdom and your class and beauty and for trying to help everyone achieve their best. Hah. I learned that one in 1965, at age 12. Only it was 7 points. I still follow it but sometimes it feels a bit spare. So I am gonna adopt your 8.

It reminds me of how many pieces of jewelry one should wear. You count everything that is silver, gold, shiny. Even gold buttons on a jacket. If you have already countedb to a certain number, but still have, let's say a few rings on your fingers, it's no good. Take them off! 😊 Don't remember what was the number. Could have been an eight.

I like the sound of this point system. I usually adapt my dressing style to basic piece, interest piece and statement piece, which includes accessories.
I realised recently I’ve been dressing ‘old money’ most of my life and I never realised it had a label. It’s even more interesting to me that it’s a trend 🤭. I think the key thing to any sort of fashion is to be true to your style and be comfortable in it and with it. Most importantly, always remember ‘manners maketh man’… or woman 😉.

About 10 years ago I was a Point to Point (for those not in UK P2Ps are amateurs horse racing jockeys going round a course of jumps in a field), and a woman turned up head to toe in a brand new 'rural' oufit and alot of makeup. The thing about her was she tried so hard to get the 'country' look, but did not realise that most people in the country wear old clothes till they wear out. A new item is only bought when the old clothes are worn out.
So what Anna said is true about looking like yourself and not a caricature.
It doesn’t matter if you are wearing Target khakis or Brooks Brothers, if the clothing is properly fit and pressed (second hand consignment or 20 years old) you can go anywhere. At 51, my Tiffany watch and shoes are probably the only thing I care to discreetly flash. Cannot stand logos…and my car is 12 years old. Just keep it clean and detailed. Hi, Anna.

As someone who's very into body and essence typing I think knowing your own types/IDs is critical to avoiding looking stiff, costumey, or just "off"! If you're not dressing in your own lines or honouring your own essence it will always look stilted and weird no matter how perfectly you've replicated the inspo outfit.

@@hidignuuro Yes! Aly Art is the ultimate Kibbe body type/Image ID resource here on CZcams, she has an absolute wealth of content to help you learn the ins and outs. I also like Style Thoughts by Rita's original essence system, especially once you've mastered your image ID and lines. Wearing your own best colours is also SUPREMELY important and can literally change your life (it did for me!!) so learning about seasonal colour analysis (I recommend Sci/Art's 12 Season Colour) and eventually splurging on your own in-person analysis with a trained professional is SUCH a worthwhile investment! Christine Scaman's blog The 12 Blueprints is an incredible resource to start.

I think most stylish people inherently know what to play with and what rules to break. Kate Moss dressing opposite to her seasonal color and essence is a good example of that.
For people who have no idea what flatters them and just always wear what is trendy and the likes can profit from the kibbe/ essence typing and so forth though, I agree. :)
I have been buying and wearing the "New" trend of old money for decades. And will continue to do so if inclined. I have always liked simple items that are made of high quality even when I could only afford 1 or 2 pieces at a time. Dress for yourself and you will be happy.
Over the past years of learning from Anna, I found what true elegance is. I don't like how the journalists and papers has portrayed her in the past, but she isn't afraid to be out there and show to everyone what she really is about. I've also wondered what kind of content she'll continue to make after the many things she has already covered, but time and time again every content that she come up with are always timely, informative and entertaining. I like dressing like a caricature, in December. I dress like Mrs Claus: red suit, red boots, red gloves, and a huge red felt hat. All with a vintage Arctic Fox coat. Lots of bling and strings of Christmas lights (batteries in the coat pockets)

Anna, I think this old money style should be encouraged. Don’t worry, it will get watered down and less formulaic in time. It will make its natural cycle. Anything that will get us away from ripped jeans for women and cargo pants, flip flops and baseball caps for men. Just watch videos of tourist spots around the world and you will see the casual, no style, unflattering, boring same old clothes worn by millions. I applaud any style that takes people away from the mass world wide trend of no style, casual dressing. Most people have NO STYLE so any classic style is an improvement.
I admire people who are optimistic about the future. As long as we take care of ourselves, and the planet and continue to educate our children, the way we dress, live and consume. It will tone down over time and many people who once cared for over-production, over waste and other energy consumption - greediness and corruption will not end - but the way we view ourselves and the world will change. I believe that in the future we will have a new rich-to-be-style a lot more toned down and with different shapes and colors, and I'm definitely waiting for that. Who knows? Maybe sci-fi-esque or garden-esque will play a part in fashion. 🙂🛰🌱🥀
I agree with you…it at least is a sense of good style. Even traditional, ethnic/folk ways of dressing from at least 100+ years ago across the globe from different cultures (think dirndls from Germany, hanboks from Korea, Indian sarees, Turkish, Moroccan, etc etc…) have way more style, cultural excitement, and were made with better fabrics than the mass produced, bland, culture less raggedy t-shirt, wrinkled cargo shorts, and flip flop looks that the average Joe/plain Janes wear of today.
I’m a little bit confused on the criticism here. I’m pretty sure I remember Anna saying “fake it til you make it.” Now we aren’t supposed to dress in a classy way because it’s fake? I usually agree with you, but I truly don’t understand what you’re even aiming at here.
Fake it till you make it was never about "let's fake being rich and pretend we're wealthy". Fake it till you make it advice has always been about getting rid of imposter syndrome and lack of confidence, by allowing yourself to blend with a community by adhering to their culture and rules. So if you want to level up and have success with high-society, many people will want to dress like them to blend in. Not to fake that you're also wealthy, but to dress so that you don't feel like you stand out like a sore thumb amongst them. When you blend in you feel more confident and less of an imposter, which is what this expression was about.
And today's video is not me being against a classy style, I'm teaching and wearing it myself :) I'm not a big fan of specific aesthetics as I prefer more broad styles like elegance and classic fashion is, because under that umbrella you have actually a wide range of style personalities and can mix and match it more to make it your own. Hope it's more clear now
My style has always been classic ever since I was 17 or 18 years old. I am now 40 and my entire closet consists of classic pieces. Sometimes I check myself in the mirror quickly before leaving the house and even though I am very comfortable, I feel that my look is to stuffy and buttoned up looking especially post pandemic. Often times I’ll swap out a ballet flat for a classic white Lacoste or Adidas sneaker, or swap out a jacket for a leather Moto jacket style. A simple fitted white khaki orange or navy baseball cap will also do wonders to tone down le fromage.
It’s very strange seeing tennis outfits off the tennis court, like in a restaurant or at the beach 😬

I think people should wear what they want. No judgement. Every one is different. Caricature or not. I think ladies who watch your channel want to level up and that’s great. 🎉 Maybe that couple is doing the same. Maybe they thought that was the appropriate style for that restaurant. You have been teaching this before it became popular. To me all this is minimalist fashionIt which was called French chic. Before that the Preppy look. Like all things in fashion it’s just a cyclical thing. 😊
Dressing classic now has kinda been ruined for people that always dressed this way because everyone will now think you are following this trend and playing dress up rich rather than it being how you dress on a daily basis
I love pearls but I make them much more fashionable by threading my own. I often wear Keisha, oval, shell or my favourites: baroque pearls. I use pearls to match my outfits in 3 colours aswell. I use pearls in 18”, medium length, or long length (as I have a larger chest), so the longer ones give me a V shape if I chose to wear a polo-kneck. Sometimes, I wire each bead, like Chanel does. People always ask me where I bought them.
I really like pearls, but I find that it easily looks “try too hard” on me, so maybe I will follow your idea and thread my own or add longer ones, as I also have a larger chest. Do you mix with other beads?

Here is my solution and compromise for a natural look re old money: If ALL the pieces of your wardrobe are 100 % TOP quality, whether formal, preppy, casual, sporty etc then when you mix and match them, such as sneakers with a dress, you will look unique and classy! Same with accessories! My favorite compliment on my clothing is, " I just love your outfit! I never would have thought of that !!"
I don’t use social media for outfit inspiration, I just look in my own closet. Occasionally, an influencer might show an item I’m interested in buying, but with American social media they show mostly low-quality, dirt cheap, synthetic-fabric items I just won’t wear. Low price seems to be the priority here, but for me, it’s the last factor I consider. I don’t buy designer (well, not much), but “Premium High Street” brands have lots of beautiful high-quality items to choose from.
I love these videos! I need to rewatch your old ones where you show how to style the clothing pieces. Also, Ashlynne who is another great styling genius has great advice too. I realized what makes your clothes hold an authentic value and appeal is to actually custom made your own collection (shirts and trousers in my case) at a private tailor.
I agree. The items that fit and look most like myself are the custom pieces in my wardrobe. Those items I cherish the most.
I am sorry, but old moneys are not flashy. They tend to hide their money. The fabric is high quality but the style is usually simple so no one realize that they are rich

That‘s soo interesting because I thought the same thing recently over and over again. It looks not like someones personal style and taste, more like copying a trend or wearing a costume. Why? Because it has no personal touch.
I normally don't comment on people's videos and did a lot of thinking before I wrote this. Still, after watching this video, I felt a need to comment. NOTE: I'm a straight male in my early 30s who is attracted to feminine women. And, personally, I don't like the dress with sneakers on women. I also don't like it when women wear jeans. I agree that it could come across as a costume if you wear all the stereotypical items combined. However, wearing sneakers with a nice dress doesn't look good, in my opinion. Women don't necessarily have to wear heels (all the time). Other types of shoes are also fine. Just a 'no' to sneakers when you are not exercising/hiking.
Moreover, I noticed that many people consider even basic classy outfits as 'too much'. So, if you feel great in an outfit that others might perceive as 'too much', do not worry. If you want to wear your nice heels and dress and your pearl necklace, do so. Just don't overdo it as Anna mentioned. However, always remember there are still those (including men) who would admire you for it. Although, the goal is to dress for yourself.
Just wanted to give a point of view as a straight male who is attracted to feminine women.
I read your comment and I am thinking of myself. 11 years ago, before marrying, I always wear high heels (always 7cm ) , becoz I felt they were right for me, I felt elegant, sexy... But then I married and started having kids, spending all the time for family, I have been only using sneakers until now ( my Geox Nebula many years- I found this kind to be most comfortable for me ). Some weeks ago, I organized my shoes, I found out I have more or less 30 pairs of shoes ( more or less 20 pairs with 7cm heels) , so many years I didn't use heels, I realized I couldn't use them anymore, I didn't feel good, so dizzy, headache, seems very hard for me to walk. I am sad.
I am a straight women who also appreciates feminine dressing women. I don't care what the trend is and what the media wants to make people believe. For me it is simple, it looks pleasant when a women looks feminine and a man looks manly.

in any case you do not want to ever wear head to toe.,,,bought everything from the same store same time all at once in huge quantity .,,went crazy ...covered head to toe in the look.....like she said mix it up with your own stuff....stuff that applies to your region of world as far as weather...trends ....activity etc......I live in Texas...it is hot...we modify all our outfits and shoes for living in the heat.....
In my opinion, this trend has mostly ruined certain clothing items that many people might have enjoyed wearing, because if they go outside, they'll immediately be seen as " posers " , or " oh the tiktok rich looking wannabes " .

To me you are the only CZcams-content creator whose videos I really look forward to 🌸 A question: do you think it is possible to look elegant and classy while living a life that mostly consists of doing sports and exercise? Due to my current lifestyle I spend most of my time in sports clothes, mostly gym clothes. What type of pieces should I go for?
I recently found a pair of shorts with a bit of cashmere in them. They are soft and comfy and look different than denim or cotton shorts. I believe Anna says to stay away from leggings or other body revealing shorts, and I would ad to stay away from shorts that look like you just got out of a gym class. Find the length of shorts that look best on you and are your perfect colors. Make sure the top is flattering and goes well with the shorts. If you must wear leggings or a uniform CHANGE as soon as you can so you aren't wearing it in public (I've also heard Anna say this). 🤍
I also think it's about staying true to yourself so far that you feel comfortable and genuine and can therefore be self-confident, but don't let yourself go so that you look messy or even neglected. Of course, you can walk around as you like, but if you want to be socio-culturally somewhere in a certain circle, you should stick to certain labels, I mean follow etiquette and so on. So don't do everything you can do, but enough to look clean, tidy and appropriate. And then add a good bit of your personality to your outfit and it's perfect!
The goal is not to look like everyone else so that everyone looks the same.

Hi Anna, you are so RIGHT: without criticizing everyone, I see this all the time, now. People look so "Old Money Styled" that they look fake or like they are trying to hard.
The biggest thing i find with people wearing expensive clothing is they think they look upmarket, but their mannerisms - body language and way they speak is off. It's very jarring and uncomfortable to witness.
Also, they are usually over groomed and thus loud.
Or in the case of one chap who deliberately didn't politely let me walk past him the other day, they are under groomed.
The commitment to the closet frustration was really appreciated hahaha

I think there needs to be an element of casual "undoneness" with any of these outfits, maybe a surprise accessory, hair that moves, what the French describe as 'je ne sais quoi' to prevent outfits being too stuffy, too formulaic. I do agree, that without some personality, it can come across as drab

I actually love the old money aesthetic. It fits my style (depending on the day).
I think the main point in fashion, elegance, aesthetics, even the old money one, is choosing what makes you look and feel at your best.
For example I hate big or chunky yewelry, even real gold one...my mum loves it and she looks amazing wearing things that would make everyone else look tacky or like a cosplayer: they key is, she loves big accessories and she feels confident wearing them, therefore that's what she portrays and what others perceive.
I personally love old money aesthetic, I have met many affluent people who actually dress like that and the looked amazing: elegant, classy and very comfortable and that how I aspire to look when I choose my outfits.
I think that old money style is doing great teaching people (especially men) to dress well again. It must be encouraged, even if sometimes you may look overdressed.

I believe the saying is remove one piece of jewelry. Also, I think the old money esthetic will go out of style because fashion is all about the next big thing. My personal style has always been classic with a few trendy accessories thrown in as the shoes always updates a classic button down and slack. Right now it's chunky loafers or a pointy kitten heel pump. This winter it will be something else.
I can't help suspecting or flat-out believing that this 'quiet luxury' trend has been activated by you and your work, videos, popularity, Anna 🤔
Maybe, what do you ladies think? I would have celebrated this trend more if it offered some diversity and was broader in terms of style personality, so that people could fit their personalities into it. I don't have anything against the overall aesthetic, but I'm finding it to become a bit costume-y (like many trends are, which is why I'm not big on trends).

I live in the state of Florida. I am 50 years old. Completely fascinate with dresses, skirts , hats , lace gloves, etc. I love the fashion from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. My wardrobe consists of mostly all shades or pink since it’s my favorite color( not because of Barbie) 😂. Neutrals and pastels. I love Kate spade fashion since it has a lot of romantic aesthetics. I love to look nice. Mostly all the time people complimented me on my outfits or shoes. I don’t wanted to copy anyone. It’s just my style. And it won’t change as I age. Obviously that I am not going to wear something hat it’s not flattering, but I won’t budge with the colors. I will love to know your opinion and tips on this specific style. I dislike pants a lot. I don’t think that my body it’s curvy enough for them. Thank you

One thing that helped my level up journey was to remember that the "Elegant Solution" is actually a mathmatical term meaning to solve the problem in the simplest and most effective manner. When I translated that to my outfits, VIOLA!! In fact, Outfits, relationships, housecleaning, computer work, the Elegant Solution applies to them all.

I always ask myself regardless of how much I like it .
1. How much wear will I get out of this and 2. Will I feel natural in this.
Those two things helped me out. You can always tell when someone is wearing someone else’s personality.
I’ve changed a lot of what I buy but there’s some things that just won’t go away because they make me; me.
I really enjoy punk so in my way I just choose certain pieces and learn not to over do it and choose darker colors.
It’s almost Similar to this thing of , semi casual. Etc . People don’t understand that semi casual doesn’t mean going out and wearing Jeans , t shirt and sneakers .
You have to tweak certain parts, if it’s the jeans you’re going with than cool but you can’t wear a t shirt or wear sneakers.
Switch out for flats or heels and wear a blouse.
This applies to everything in my opinion like Ana said about removing one thing.
And it makes a HUGE difference to find clothes that fits your 1) complexion 2) body shape 2) residential Country’s weather

Its your energy, your security in yourself, being classy,elegant, natural,stylish its your way of feeling of yourself and how you present yourself. Its not being over dressed, not wearing a costume of someone you arent. Being a high Quality person depends on many things, not only only the clothes,shoes etc you are wearing. Its not a trend. Its a way of being,living.
