    I've done custom engine/trans installs in more cars than you'd believe, and they were almost all high dollar, top notch projects (my previous employer was a high dollar street rod builder). You need to point the tailshaft at the pinion and forget everything else you've heard. Mount it permanently and check pinion angle with the suspension loaded at ride height. The only reason it needs any angle is for the u-joints to lube themselves (non-issue). You also need the pinion pointing a few degrees down so that it'll be straight when the axle wraps, if you aren't going to do anything to mitigate that issue.
    Also, your shifter plans are going to change potentially once you realize how the 6l80e operates but this depends largely on how you're going to control the engine/trans..

    • @jagharingenyoutube
      @jagharingenyoutube Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes, the angle of the frame has nothing to do with anything. Get the car to ride height and adjust the drive train angles based on the level of the whole car. Not the frame

    The belt routing is for maximum contact with pulleys for minimal slippage 😊 allso, good job, this is gonna be sweet 👌much love from Sweden 🇸🇪 👍

  • @TheTalonts
    @TheTalonts Před 3 měsíci +2

    The "extra" pulleys are to keep the belt in contact with as much of the alternator pulley as possible. You might be able to get a good contact patch with fewer pulleys, but don't just pull them all and leave a small arc of alternator pulley contact patch, or it will slip constantly and not charge worth a crap.

    Wheels. If you want to use aluminum wheels, Centerline has a spun aluminum wheel that is near perfect for balance and weight. I advise powder coating the wheel to protect it from salt. If this is a burnout beast, ya might want to use steel wheels.

    preston..you walked for the first time and many other firsts since then...building an engine is mechanics get a manual read it..get the tools learn how to use them properly. the hard part is knowing which tool to use when and what readings you need to have that comes with experience just like hydrodipping only it could be more expensive to a goof so the devil is in the details you may want to spreadsheet everything about your engine and its parts for reference as it is nice to know things like compression and flow and deck height or cam specs or pushrodlencth or rocker arm ratio.... at a later date. as always thanks for the vids

    I would go with a 20”-22” rim. 11” wide rear 10” wide front. Nice sticky ZR 305-35 rear 255-35 front use permanent stickers for the tire sidewalls that say something with gumout or logo on them. Airbags and side exit headers out to 4 tips both sides of the car behind front tires. Kinda like a cool matchbox car.

      @@GARAGEIdiotS As Preston, always Your videos have a combination of creativity, entertainment, presentation, portrayals, narratives, information along with the current status, development within Your various projects, personal with Yourself, along with each individual within the group, team development within these too.
      Much Appreciated. 😃 All The Best 😊, Sincerely ☺
      Note: Also about, regarding the ideas, with wheels & tires per the mentioned request; the following suggestions.
      A. the proposed, shown old style tires and wheels were good for the original vehicle along with the vehicle as purchased from the individual that performed all of the custom work with a "retro", "refurbished", semi-restored version including the taller, old style, white wall tires and black steel wheels perhaps with some matching period correct center, wheel caps/covers.; these could perhaps be included within the 'giveaway" to the new owner to use if desired for street driving or car show use too.
      B. since this custom 1939 truck is now within a different path, desire with use, intent, purpose within a much higher power, speed including drag strip use, the the tires and wheels should be proper, appropriate, perhaps similar with those used with many other such vehicles with high power, drag strip, "Hot Rod" use including "gassers" or such.
      1. suggestions for wheels:
      a. older "Centerline" type, style chrome, polished aluminium or similar
      b., older "Daisy" type, style or similar
      c. two sets; one for racing; one for street use.
      2. tires
      a. appropriate rear slicks for the rear, skinny for the front drag racing
      b. appropriate performance street tires for front and rear, seemingly balanced or slightly offset.

    Definitely wouldn't have chosen an LS drivetrain for that. That's pretty out of place but hey, it'll make it easy, powerful, and sound good.. That straight axle front end and 6L80e should make for pretty much the most terrifying vehicle you've ever experienced!lol I'm excited to see how it all works out. I'm pretty sure you can get super close to running 9's and it will still have the potential to run 190mph!! Now, the vehicle itself will not be capable of anything north of 130mph or so, at least without making a mess of your panties and your poodle skirt, but as I said, it'll be interesting!!

    • @newtonfirefly3584
      @newtonfirefly3584 Před 3 měsíci

      @nocoasthero1204; You idea, statement, suggestion about the engine placement is close to the proper, accurate, description for the proper placement, height, alignment, angle of the engine long with the transmission are certainly affected by the placement,alignment, angle of the rear end, differential, along with its third member gear input shaft, thus affecting the drive shaft alignment, angle, length, etc.
       @GARAGEIdiotS In reality the placement of these components are via the reality of the physical placement of the three key components, as a three member group within a 3-D structure in which all three require a linear alignment horizontial, of the center line of rotation, from engine crankshaft/flexplate through the torque converter, transmission input shaft, through output shaft through drive shaft including U-joints, through rear end gear, differential , third member gear input shaft. A drawing, illustration, picture, pictorial description is far more effective, efficient and precise than the words are to describe and achieve the necessary, desired, correct, proper, valid results.
      This is accomplished properly, correctly precisely via simple use, with simple geometries using simple, proper, accurate, precise measurements, then forming the proper arrangement, placement, alignment, angles.
      Justin Shearer ["Big Chief"] shows, mentions, details the means with proper this proper set-up with his Gen 3 Corvette [on his Midwest Street Cars channel (along with many other useful, helpful, beneficial, valuable, essential, vital, critical details within engine/ignition,/fuel, suspension tuning, tires, wheels, suspension, brakes, gear rations, weight balance, etc.], using the existing factory frame, along with mentioning his choice with using proper information, knowledge from Jerry Bickel from his published race car chassis guide book, which he used to set up his Pontiac GTO, "Crow", with its custom chassis, frame; "Jerry Bickel Complete Guide to Chassis Performance", along with newer Jerry Bickel's Perfromance for Pro Chassis Construction Volume 1 Tube Chassis Fabrication, Volume 2 Body & Interior -> www.jerrybickel.com/books-and-software-1.html
      Preston, just as You mention in this video with the proper, precise, accurate measurements across the frame rails in the engine compartment, with a proper method for determining the center line, similarly all of the other process, method with proper, precise, accurate measurements are used to properly, accurately, precisely determine the proper, accurate, precise placement, alignment with each of the components
      This 1939 "Hot Rod" truck has a custom frame, chassis, thus it is certainly much easier to determine and achieve the proper to optimum placement, alignment for these components.
      If, when You will use the describe, detailed, explained, proper method in the Jerry Bickel race car guide book including the proper details,methods with precise, accurate measurements, the proper, correct results will be achieved, enjoyed.
      this is very similar with the proper process methods which Your friend Scott from Arizona, that came to Your shop in Colorado thus showed, taught, assisted, with precise instructions, methods to achieve the upgrades with the [Gen IV ?] LS engine from the Gen 5 Camaro, for significant performance improvement, with such precision, accuracy, exactness throughout the build including the last bolts of the oil pan with the proper torque specification. Presumably, Scott showed, taught, performed a proper Cam and crankshaft alignment, timing per the specifications within the proper methods, along with many other details within the build, including the pistons, rings, gaping, connecting rods, all of the vale train components, valve lash, etc., though not shown.
      All The Best, Sincerely

    Try running the exhaust similar to what Stanceworks did on his with a coyote. It’ll give you enough length for back pressure and possibly bring the noise down.

    • @t0ph3rstreams13
      @t0ph3rstreams13 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Back pressure is a negative and kills HP an engine is an air pump. Back pressure limits the air that can leave the engine which means it limits the intake of air which limits the fuel that can be used which means less HP. You want the exhaust system open so the air leaving can leave unhindered which leads to HP gains. Since the intake of air and exhaust is is not restricted. So needing back pressure in the exhaust is bullshit.

    I wish i had sonmebody who woulda taught me crap when i had to take my first motor down to the crank and build it back so itd run again.. my ass had to figure out how to measure cylinder walls, backlash, valves, bearing tolerances by myself and had to get the measurements right and to the thou.. well after putting the whole thing back together i found out youre not supposed to reuse head bolts even if you just torqued em down. The thing blew the gasket and had to do it all over again.. without and engine hoists or proper tools.. sucked but ended up making 6 grand from doing it so i did it again.. and again..
