    I am a professional Firefighter in Germany since 12years and work as Firefighter & platoon leader, what i`ve seen here is Nothing but just ludicrous. One unit (2 Firefighters) professionally equipped with SCBA to prevent cancer, using a rapid attack hose with an AFF foam would have done the Job as we use to do in Germany in less than 5mins., without even destroying the trailers surface. Absolutely wrong aproach, to many FF inside the danger Zone, carrying a bunch of useless Tools for that kind of incident and so on.....Leader shouldn`t be that close, specially staying in the smoke, here we go...Cancer again!!! To much to just write done what all went wron on that Mission......Sometimes it feels, they are still living in Hollywood and need to seek for attention. Anyways…..
    Respect to our Brothers in the US for their service, but they would have 75% less death rate if they would change their tactics and way they work….

      As a firefighter in the US for 11 years the fatality rate deals with many things not just tactics and SCBA usage. You should be careful when making blanket statements. as for my department this would not have gone this way either. we use SCBA on just about every fire and one engine would most likely handle it. As for pulling the deck it depends on the situation whether we would have or not.

      FDNY also has to take into account for neighboring exposures. A call to 911 comes in with a vehicle on fire. FDNY doesn’t know if the materials inside the truck are hazardous, if people are trapped, if a second vehicle caught fire, or a business next to the vehicle. They have the resources to send a heavy response. And the firefighters grab their hooks like it’s second nature. They rather stand FAST with their gear and equipment rather than trying to hunt down their tools if the fire all of a sudden gets out of control.

The trailer wasn't even loaded with anything, the worst case scenario here would have been a tire blowing up or some trash catching fire, so why not take the time and play it safe?

    • @richardstevens5961
      @richardstevens5961 Před 5 lety +1

      Well, anything from a discarded cigarette or cigar to overheated brakes could have been the origin.
      The poles are called Pike poles and are normally used for pulling ceilings at a fire to ‘open up’ and extinguish pockets of fire hidden in the ceilings and walls.
      They come in many various sizes as there are many ceilings of varying sizes. Over the years there may be ceilings added to the ceilings above, making the task that much harder.
      The poles actually have many uses though as illustrated in this video.

    • @CameronLHC19
      @CameronLHC19 Před 5 lety +1

      This is New York so of course it's over the top but I do think they have a reason. From my understanding (this may be wrong but makes sense) is they respond the engine and truck in case there is someone trapped in the vehicle (I know this wasn't a vehicle but it probably just went out as a generic vehicle fire). Another reason could be for more tools so more ways to gain access to the car. Also probably because they just have a ton of units and can afford to send more than what is probably needed just in case it is something worse.
      Most other departments in the US will respond only one engine with three or four firefighters on board, this is definitely not the norm.

    Good job they had 18,000 pike poles with them. Why does the city of New York bother buying SCBA sets for their firefighters, they never use them, why bother carrying that weight around for no reason? Nice to see they still managed to get some vertical ventilation holes cut.....

    "It might explode". There's always somebody at every fire yelling about it exploding. It doesn't work like that. Explosions occur in rare circumstances. Not when an empty trailer's tires are on fire

    In Europe, trucks need to have fire fire extinguishers on board. Im not a firefighter yet (about to become one), but to me it looks kind of wrong when 50% of the firement are holding useless tools (those sticks with hooks at the tip) and not even protect themself from breating in smoke. I have seen german firefighters taking out completely burning cars in half the time these guys needed just to take of some burning tires.
