When you say viral protease, you mean that this PI drug only inhibits that protease and not the host proteases?
no, in general all the proteases would be inhibited.... (it's not a drug ;) )
yes, the inhibitor is specific to the viral protease and will not inhibit host proteases. and yes, there are PIs that are drugs (FDA-approved and used in clinic to treat patients)
This makes the topic much less alienating and really shows whats going on.
