Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday in the movie "Tombstone" offers an interesting lens through which we can explore the relationship between his character and the sephirot of Kabbalah. Doc Holliday is depicted as a complex and multifaceted individual, and his quotes in the movie can be examined through the framework of the sephirot to gain deeper insights.
"I'll be your huckleberry." This famous quote reflects Doc Holliday's fearless and confident nature, as well as his willingness to take on challenges. In terms of the sephirot, it resonates with the sephirah of Gevurah (Strength), which represents power, courage, and determination.
"My hypocrisy goes only so far." This quote showcases Doc Holliday's self-awareness of his own flaws and contradictions. It relates to the sephirah of Tiferet (Beauty), which represents harmony and balance between conflicting aspects. Doc Holliday recognizes his own contradictions but also seeks to maintain a sense of integrity within his actions.
"It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds." This line further emphasizes Doc Holliday's awareness of his own contradictions. It reflects the interplay between Gevurah and Tiferet, as he acknowledges his complex nature while continuing to act in accordance with his principles.
"All I want is revenge." This quote illustrates Doc Holliday's driven and vengeful nature, as he seeks justice for the wrongs committed against him. It connects with the sephirah of Netzach (Eternity), which represents determination, victory, and the pursuit of justice.
Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday captures the intricate blend of strength, self-awareness, complexity, and pursuit of justice. While these interpretations offer insights through the lens of Kabbalah and the sephirot, it is important to remember that they are subjective and open to individual interpretation.

Everyone’s acting puts you right there in the room feeling the tension as these two legends interact. Nobody drops the ball, everyone plays their part with such subtle perfection, and it stays that way through the whole movie.

And why did Doc Holliday have this ability?
He knew he was literally a dead man walking thanks to advanced tuberculosis, as they had no cure at the time. The only treatment they had was for the sufferer to go to a dry climate, such as the desert, which is why he was there. And knowing he was basically a dead man walking meant he did not fear dying in a gunfight, and perhaps he was hoping to go out that way, as dying from tuberculosis is long, slow and painful.
A man who does not fear dying is very, very scary, and Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday captures this perfectly.

Not too mention I've seen photos of the real Doc, one in particular that stands out in memory is one that was taken of him when Doc was 27 years old, the year bein 1878, and Quaid's resemblance to Doc in that photo is borderline uncanny.
Not too mention too, Doc was known for having a volatile and violent temper when drunk, and I think Quaid exuded that well in his portrayal.

The acting in this was truly next level. Kilmer, Biehn, Russel were top of the heap and the supporting roles were very solid. Kilmer and Biehn played off each other soooo well. Unreal chemistry between them. It's interesting how sometimes two actors just click 👌 with each other. It's almost like they draw each other out. Kilmer really should have gotten an Oscar and frankly I think Biehn and Russell should have been at least nominated as well.

He stated that for him the best acting moment in his career was when he and doc had the confrontation and he went from talking to that split second when he realized they would have a fight. His eyes and expression changed instantly. I went back and watched that scene and I agree his acting there was incredible. He and Val practiced that scene for quite awhile choreographing it prior to shooting the scene. When asked about Val being hard to work with he mentioned it was more of a perfectionist plying his trade and contempt for those who prefer to wing it and hope the scene turns out OK. Michael seems to also be on that same level of acting perfection.

Thats why later in the film its Doc was the one who went to go fight Johnny, he already knew how fast he was, he had him beat long ago. The whole conversation in this scene is a set up Doc wanted to push Ringo just enough to see what he would do. Doc was the smartest man in the room because while the rest were men of action he was a man of tactics.

So many good secondary themes in this movie. Probably the best dialog of any script of any movie I have ever seen. Unfortunately the reality was a little different. Best estimate is that Ringo killed himself. The line about "Why Johnny Ringo, you look as if somebody just walked over your grave," is interesting. Even though Doc Holliday was miles away in jail and couldn't have killed Ringo, Ringo was buried where he lay. I guess he was walking over his own grave.
