This still holds every bit of magic that it did for me the last time I saw it years and years ago. Thank you so much for posting. A poetic expression in 4Dimensions.

Thank you for putting this on. It's still as hauntingly beautiful as I remember.

This is my favourite Norman McLaren film.
I was fortunate enough to have visited him 4 times. (The last time was when he was editing "Narcissus"). He was a wonderful person as well as a wonderful film-maker.

@ingaman This movie is from 1968. It was done using an optical printer, edited purely on film... Norman McLaren was a genious and pioneer of experimental animation.

I can understand where you're coming from and what you mean by that. It really shows that technology has advanced during the past 50 years... we have internet now and can just see lots of work digitally and easy criticize about beautiful original works like this, coz it's been flooded with thousands of other video works..
but one thing you need to know, and it's so important--this film was done in 1967. THERE WASN'T iMovie, computer didn't existed then. aint that something!?

The whole thing is available on the NFB website as one piece.... along with every other McLaren and NFB films!
Props to superchat for making this available before the digitization though.

HI, I'm glad you all like it as much as me, shame I had to split it into 2 parts, I think some people may have only seen part 1, & part 2 is great

Pas de deux is from 1968, so no computer wizardry involved. This must have been created by combining multiple layers of film negative and/or multiple exposure.

You should have a look at Zbigniew Rybczynski's work... The Polish filmmaker living in USA - extremely innovative person.

Lovely to watch, but I would have enjoyed the film more if the music had been something other than a numbing, celestial drone. I grew tired of it very quickly.

Two hard key lights and ghost trails from iMovie. I don't see what's so special about this. My little brother could make a better video!
