A friend of mine started playing these a couple yrs ago. At the same time he bought a Spector. He ended up selling the Spector 3 weeks later and bought a 5 string Sire. They're growing on me and I'm a lifelong Fender P bass player.

I grabbed a 4 string V7 (Alder/Rosewood) to fill a Jazz Bass shaped hole in my arsenal.
Very happy with it, in both Passive and Active modes.
    For the P sound I have a Precision ..
My main is a Modulus Q5 with EMGs

Great video Bully. I'm in my early 50's and just now taking on learning the bass and the 5-string banjo. (Last music I played was the alto sax in 6th grade!). I have a Squire Classic Vibe 60's Precision but looking at the Sire P8 as an upgrade. Great video and has me leaning toward the P8 even though not reviewed specifically. Thanks man! New subber here!

Also I will have my new (and first) Bass tommorow. It's a mid range Ibanez active getup. Hoping it's worth it

I want to say taht i just got a V3 Passive 4 RS in december and for such a low price it is so cool bass!!! Maybe the bridge I will change, the pickguard just for the fun and the tuners seems to have been worked on since I find them more reliable compared to the other SIre I've got..time will tell..but to me no problem..light, very good sound, versatile (low, high, vintage, modern) no problem of preamp, battery and too much harware.;it arrived tuned, one semi tone below, at home and I barely adjusted the trus rod...it 's one of my best investment in a bass in 20 years ( I had more expensive bass etc but I mean the ratio price/quality is excellent) the problem with Sire is the after sale service customers and find detailed pieces

I have 2 Sire and love htem..but NOI never bought them to slap!! I do slap witht hem, nut slap ain't my first thing at all and it didnt' come in mind to me when I bought the first..it is so versatile, I tried it, it was cool for everything, every style , every genre..and one year later bought another model, different (a passive one)..and they won't be alone eternally..Sire is my new favorite brand, even though I m still in love with the great old brands every body love and use (almost)..Im mostly a Jazz bass and Precision Bass guy and very less interested with other style ofbass exept for a few exceptions..and problems with basses aren't problems..you have to adapt, the perfect bass dosen't exist and it is so cool to be able toadapt and adjust..it makes you free...I love my style plug and play for more than 20 years...and ehance those bass is not going to hell...and to me , my 2ND gen preamp is very cool..the only thing I will change are the tuner..for the price I got two bass that I think are better than my fender mexico (I don't say american but mexico at least).taht said I love the Flea mexico 1964 style reissue roadwornand I will get it..and I don't care if it's not perfect..i have very good cheaper basses than Squier, good squier...but bad ones exist for sure...just don't buy just a brand or a nice looking instrument

I'm on the fence about ordering one. Any info about the neck profile? More p or jazz-like on these? Do they vary by model like other companies? The rolled fingerboard Sire advertises is what initially caught my eye. Sounds pretty good on this vid!!! But bully could make any bass sound good I'm convinced.

I am 6 basses down with Sire. V5, V5-5, D-5, M5, M5 FL and a P-10. Never been more happy with a brand as with Sire. Just waiting a Stingray copy and the circle is complete. If they came out with a P5 that had a MM humbucker in the bridge I would be in heaven. No more chasing dreams. One bass to rule them all.

    • @discobassgroove

Sire basses are fine. Worth it. They aren't perfect but really useable and versatile. The specific - little harsh - Sire sound is good for many type of music... but not for all in all conditions. Price/ quality = really good.

I have 1st gen 5 string Sire V7 ash maple sunburst. It gives a lot of tone shaping options. It weighs slightly under 5kg, but for 5 string jazz-ish bass it is acceptable. I really love the low B string on it. It has the best low B I have played by now. I would like to add another Sire bass to my arsenal. Should I go with new P5 for that vintage p bass goodness or for modernistic hi fi sounding bass like M5 or the flagship M7 ?

How is the weight for the P7? I've heard neck dive being an issue with the 5 string, but I guess a hipshot ultralite upgrade would help

I would only entertain this bass If I swapped out preamp for sadowsky and the pick ups with Seymour Duncan. That's what I did with my fender deluxe. Best move I ever made.

Nice video, but I thought it said you were rating 4 Sire basses. ? Maybe 1 FrankenSire equals 4 basses. I can’t say I was overly impressed with the tone on that bass compared to a pure jazz or Sting Ray. I had a V7 Generation 1 #139 signed by Marcus Miller and an M5. I liked both of them very much. I sold the V7 in 2019 when I had surgery on my right elbow and wrist and didn’t know if I would ever play again. I traded the M5 on a Fender 75th Diamond Anniversary jazz. “Love it!” The M5 didn’t seem to fit in the mix as well as my Fender and Squier passive basses and though easy to play, just like ”felt” so different from the others. I also got tired of fiddling with the knobs and switches when I was getting what I wanted from the others with just a tone control. I’m adding a Sterling Ray 34 soon for slapping. I do like what Marcus and Sire are doing with the 2nd Generation.

I don't know, just because a Premier player endorses a product doesn't mean that it's what they say they are. I've been a p bass guy and I believe it it isn't broke, don't fix it

  • @gimmeagig

PJ basses sound ok with finger style but they don't sound good for slapping. Especially when the blend is set for 50/50. Nasal and thin, Quacky.
I have a PJ where I just blend in the J pickup a tiny bit. It almost sounds like a straight P bass but it has a little extra zing and more definition than a regular P Bass.
