The best album by Jethro Tull. A great package for it too. Such a shame my Mum didn't like The Whistler like I did.
Legendary song in my opinion.
I have collected all of the Jethro Tull super deluxe releases and they are such a bargain for the cost .
The cds , blu rays and DVDs cover everything. The live content is worth the price alone .

I'd say this is the best of the so called folk trilogy (although Ian Anderson has stated they weren't recorded as a trilogy)....Heavy Horses is a close second with Stormwatch trailing in 3rd place...
My favorite Tull album and in my top few of all time

It's a sumptuous sounding album, full of energy. To embrace Folk Rock when it was very unfashionable takes courage, but yes, Steeleye Span was clearly an influence on Ian and I think toured with Tull in the states. Moving to the countryside was another factor for I.A. too. Contrary to most fans position, although I love this 'Trilogy' of the late folky Tull, I find SFTW a little bit of a pastiche of folk Rock and lightweight, in fact Stormwatch, Heavy Horses and Songs from the Wood is my preferred order in this impressive Tull cannon.

One hell of a solid album and such a BRILLIANT! package it is indeed. I remember getting this one for under £20 it was priced over £30 when I pre-ordered it on Amazon. A lot of the folk-rock influence for this album may very well have come from that Ian had produced Steeley Span's album Now We Are Six in the previous year. I was into folk-rock well before this came out and was quite a fan of Fairport Convention and perhaps seen them live more times than any other band back in the 70's. Saw them with Sandy Denny and without her. It is my favourite out of the three-part trilogy of albums that he went on to do. Besides being in the folk-rock camp there is also a lot of gorgeous progression on this album too. GREAT! job as ever Phil...

You know something…for the longest time this was so hard to get and expensive the recently (12/24/2023) I immediately found it for 70 bucks but for years it was as high as 500 dollars! I wonder if this has been re re released. Maybe Ian gave the green light to re release it
Strong album made even better with great sound and a cool extra old aces die hard. Another 5 star Tull set
The Whistler is one of my all time favorite Jethro Tull songs
i,ve ordered the reissue.
These things are so hard to get, Aqua Lung, Benefit,Thick as a Brick and This was....are the ones I have..I want Songs from the Woods bad..
