Minstrel is the JT album I was totally into throughout the years...Ian's slower folky tunes are the ones that really told me that this guy's hugely talented. Minstrel was the JT album that showed me just how fantastic this group really is/was.
My fav Tull album.
It’s a great album. I’ve only got into it recently but it’s such a hidden gem. The deluxe set is going cheap also and I picked it up recently for a very reasonable price. Also, you’re right Phil that first song is just so metal it’s a real rocker. Never thought I´d fall in love with a song called One White Duck..wonderful stuff!
Phil, you are spot on! Minstrel is easily one of Tull's best records! Great record.
The first studio album I got on cassette in early 79 after getting the live album. One of my faves too.
It is a great album and I just purchased the box set. I can’t wait to get it. I’ve been listening to streaming for the past couple days. I’m trying to collect all these box sets. I’m lucky I found this one I like to have too old to rock ‘n’ roll too young to die and war child also stand up.
Thanks for the video. "Minstrel" is a great album. Have the cd. One of my favorites is the bonus track "Summerday Sands". To me, the acoustic intro that Ian wrote in this track is one of the best he has ever written.
Hi Steve, thank you for watching! Phil
I wish they would re-release the Steven Wilson remix stand alone vinyl again.
Excellent spin kids!
Peace on earth.
Agree Baker St Muse is my favorite song as it's broken down into sections like an opera. I hope they reissue some of these Anniversary sets. I'm missing War Child, Passion Play, Heavy Horses, and Songs From The Wood.
Hi Logan, thank you for watching. I hope this series of videos helps the label realise how popular these sets are and they do get reissued! Phil
I also like warchild but no way am I going to pay £160 + for this boxset.
@@morrisanderson3180 thing is if you were quick off the the mark you could have got em tons cheaper tho !
Phil, Looks like a Jethro Tull mini library ! Thank for the video. take care.
It's one of my faves too Phil and was quite a MASSIVE! step up from Warchild. Got this edition for £18 when it was released in 2015. I believe Reddington's Rare records are no longer going, unlike The Diskery which is another great record shop.
Hi Lee, thank you for watching. I remember the Diskery very well, I used to love going there ! Phil
i just ordered the reissue!
Broadsword is coming next year. It's supposedly has a massive load of extras.
Hi, thank you for watching. I am so looking forward to that one! Phil :)
Also includes a previously unreleased quadraphonic mix. Yes, other artists should make boxsets like these.
Phil je te remercie tu m'as donné envie de réécouter les
Disques du Tull.thanks
The moods textures and lyrics are perfect on this record. The last horah of a great lineup.
Hi Phil. Celui-là je l'apprécie Beaucoup, un bon album, vraiment 🤗
I think Baker St. Muse is their best long-form work. It's as complex and musical as Thick As A Brick or A Passion Play but it's shorter, punchier, and more disciplined.
Hi Matthew, thank you for watching. Great to hear that someone else feels the same way about Baker St Muse. Phil
This is where I jumped on board as far as the book/box sets are concerned....I've got the original vinyl and have a couple of versions on CD...No3 in my Tull chart but that could change...Tull are that kind of band....Great review Phil...
I'll go with Requiem as my favourite track...
Hi Pete, thank you for watching. Yes, Requiem is a fabulous track as well - Phil
Another beauty, Phil, and yes, Baker St. Muse is something else. Jakszyk is pronounced 'Jack-chick'. His dad came up with the spelling of his surname: sick of having it spelt wrong, he deliberately made it more awkward and Jakko has stuck with it. Cheers, Ian
Hi Ian, thank you for watching, pronouncing names more complex than ‘Steve’ is a weakness! Great story, I did not know that! Phil :)
@@NowSpinningMagazine I only heard that story yesterday watching an interview with Jakko :)
got this one !
for me Tull reached a creative peak with this superlative album......
if you're gonna get any of these sets this is the one i would go for tho
Just the cover is worth it.Beautiful music the only drawback is I wish they had video from some of the shows
Hi Thomas, thank you for watching. I agree, that would be awesome! Phil
Easily a top 5 Tull album for me. The title track is one of my favourite Jethro Tull songs. Baker Street Muse is another great, epic song. The entire album is strong.
Thank you for watching 'Baker Street Muse' is epic - you have reminded me to play it again! Phil
I do own this one and the '02 remaster and I really do not hear much difference between the re-mix or remaster.Like all of the Tull albums, this was very well recorded, produced, and mixed. I especially like the string arrangements on this and "Warchild", and yes, Baker St. and the title track are great. A trivial observation in the credits: "Cd assembly and DVD authouring by Ray Shulman". That name should mean something to a prog. fan...He is the incredibly talented Bassist/composer/multi-instrumentalist from the great "Gentle Giant". I'm wondering if his name appears in the other boxes ????...Brilliant album
Hi Stan, thank you for watching and your observation! I will have to look. Gentle Giant had many similarities to Jethro Tull but without a central character : showman like Ian Anderson! Phil
Minstrel is a wonderfully varied album. A great back story about how you obtained your first copy Phil. It's an album of strong melodies, One White Duck, Requiem for instance, but Baker St Muse, wow, it is both stand out, and a grower, what a track, it has it all, and as you say a great piece of story telling. I'm usually drained after listening to it as it pulls you along at a fair pace too. I've never tired of it, and it is still a highlight when giving it a spin.
Although as a deluxe edition, I felt it fell a little short (relatively speaking of course) of musical extras, but they had set that bar so high, but from memory, a wonderful alternative version of the fore mentioned Requiem was a highlight. As with all the deluxe editions, the books could almost be stand alone with their content and quality.
Hi Keith, thank you for watching. I have been playing so much Jethro Tull as I have worked my way through this series. I played Baker St Muse in the car the other day and felt I could have done a separate video just on that track! Phil
