Question: WIll there be a USS Indianapolis 75th Anniversary Camo or ship discount in the Shop for this ship ? In Honor of its sinking on July 30th 1945 ? Other ships have received this Honor in the game . Please repost if you support this idea .
Holy Hallelujah!

WOW!!! [no pun intended] but that is the most misleading way to present a set of data/statistics I have ever seen.
I don’t even know where to begin. You know what. I’ll leave it up to you and your conscience. .
code dont work
I live about 45 minutes south of Cleveland and visited her a few times; we are VERY proud and happy to have the Cod
Thank you Cleveland for knowing what a true treasure The Cod was. And Thank you Paul Farace for an amazing tour of the USS Cod
Agreed👏👏🤩
My Grandfather Donald Besse served aboard the U.S.S. COD patrols 2-6.
He was a GM3c
When they sunk the Destroyer Karukaya, it was crazy.
As the story goes, my grandpa knocked out a crewmate who was freaking out and screaming while they were getting depth charged.
I guess if they were going to get blown up, he wanted a little peace and quiet first.
They made it out of there, but I guess it was like pennies rattling around in a coke can, whole sub was shaking.
Awesome video
I would had never guess that a software game company would be so passionate enough to be an educator as well. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.
They aren’t. It just helps them sell more stuff to you. Their customer service effin sucks seriously bad.
I know, right? That was excellent!
@chloehennessey6813 Wow you're a fool. You're completely missing the point here.
Ok, who else would have wanted to go down in the history as the captain who sank ships naked?
I wonder if he was in his full birthday suit or had undies on etc. Though you may as well be naked for all the dignity you get from a pair of budgie smugglers (speedos) hehehe.
He could have at least worn a codpiece.
Wow, I have to say for what ultimately is an advertisement for your game, that was damn good documentary. I've lived in Cleveland my whole life and visited the Cod twice but never learned her history, thank you for making this!
Always a great one to see in Cleveland, they keep her in immaculate shape, I’ve enjoyed every trip there.
Where is this in relation to the RnR Hall of Fame?
@@Raellives right next door to it. Every time I visit the HOF I stop by the USS Cod next door.
My dad took us to see the USS COD several times before he passed away 2days after my 8th birthday. I met actual veteran sailors who did patrols on her in the pacific. Veterans are to me, treasured living history books that complement a piece of WWII pacific theater history!! It's one of Cleveland's many wonderful museums!! Incredibly small as submarines go. The USS COD museum experiences are among some great childhood memories.
This is the second Gato class museum ship I’ve heard of. The first being the USS Silversides in Muskegon, Michigan.
@@benpurcell4935, you should try the USS Drum, SS-228, the OLDEST surviving Gato class submarine. She is part of the USS Alabama memorial park in Mobile, Alabama.
How many U-Boats do you have?
Kriegsmarine: Yes
71 in operation at any
give time
@@thesandtiger a very good number
@@1mailpigeon1 Not very good odds of coming home though. 70% of them were sunk.
@@Nekulturny and only sunk about 1% of us navy merchant fleet
@@1mailpigeon1 the Americans sung about 80 percent of the Japanese merchant ship flee
To the crew(s) of the USS COD, Thank you for your service. The only reason the USAF got me was the fact that the naval recruiting office was out to lunch..... otherwise I was small enough and intelligent enough to have qualified for "The Silent Service" when I was looking to join the Navy back in '64. USAF recruiters were in the office next door ! Such is Fate.
Same thing for me in 77.
Crewman: captain can you please put some pants on?
Captain: nuts .
nuts .
Butts.
Nuts!
Absolutely Beautiful.
Thank you World Of Warships for these very emotional and inspiring documentaries about ships that were Legends.
I visited Cleveland and went aboard the Cod about 10 years ago. I wore my Navy submarine ball cap and was amazed at the welcome I received... they rolled out the red carpet for a fellow dolphin wearing submariner. Ironic that her hull number is 224 because my old sub had hull number 624. The Cod does not have a “hole” punched in her like other tourist subs and you really have to be careful when you board her. I thank all that welcomed me on that day and I especially thank everyone that keeps her preserved.
Thank you for your service.
I live in Cleveland. The USS Cod is definitely one of the city's hidden treasures. All of my friends from out of town always want to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...which I always oblige, but there's always a detour afterwards to the USS Cod museum.
The USS Silversides submarine is now a museum based near Lake Michigan in Muskegon, Michigan. I have visited her several times.
same class as well
The USS Cobia is another Gato-class Diesel-electric sub that saw service in WWII, now turned into a floating museum, up in Manitowoc, WI. I was a tour guide on it for a while.
Really loved this video. But I find it just a little interesting that no mention was made of the USS Gar, which the Cod replaced at that same berthing location in Cleveland. When I was a kid in Cleveland, just shy of 70 years ago, my dad took me aboard her several times. That was a tight little boat. Been on the Cod too. Hope to again soon.
My mother’s cousin commanded three subs in WWII. He retired as a Rear Admiral, Sank about 55K tons. His last command was the USS Cutlass. It is still a war ready vessel, part of the Taiwanese navy, the Sea lion. In 2019 she got a $19M retrofit. Mark Felton has done a short video on her. My cousin was Herbert Lollis Jukes, USNA Class of ‘32
It can’t be a coincidence that I was listening to a book on audible featuring a Gato class and now I get a recommended video for one
Ur eyes are opening.
What book?
@@jordanhall8691 Thunder Below, and it’s quite good!
I was just listening to the story about cpt. Flucky and the USS Barb. Does guys in WWII pig boats were real heroes.
I'm 12 turning 13 in April and I've been watching these since I was 9 and I still love this
OUTSTANDING Presentation of Cod!! I've held a lifelong love of submarine warfare in general and WWII, Pacific theater submarine warfare in particular. My Dad was a Marine Corps pilot in WWII and Korea, and that influenced my decision to go Army aviation for Vietnam, otherwise I'm sure I would have been a Bubblehead. I wrote about submarine warfare in several of my (historically accurate fiction) books in the series, "The Indomitable Patriot," "They Stood Above The Rest," and "The Patriot Chronicles: Operation Crimson Tide."
I subscribed to the channel and look forward to watching the rest of the shows. I also wish to compliment the producers for their accuracy in this show. It was a hard life aboard the "Pig Boats" and you documented it exceptionally well.........
Thank you for posting such great videos about such legendary ships. Please keep up the great work I Thoroughly enjoy all of the videos you’ve made!
Great production commemorating the Cod! I got to take a tour of it some time ago,...what a great experience!
Wow! The comparable stats between the Atlantic and Pacific merchant kills is astonishing! I'm assuming a lot had to do with the fact that the allies compromised German communications. Very Cool! Thank you for sharing!
Great video. To my late friend Leo Davis who served aboard the Cod during WWII. We miss you buddy. Leo ashes were shot out of a torpedo tube at the North Pole buy the USS New Mexico a couple of years ago.
Lee Rebel Davis... my good friend and Cod crewman on all seven Cod war patrols
Got to get a tour of her today with Paul, what an honor it was to step onto a piece of American history. Thank you to all who served on this vessel and all our American heroes who sacrificed for this great country.
Sinking a ship while naked is the most bad ass thing ever...
USS COD is actually in Erie PA getting a good ol overhaul to keep her floating
when a submarine captain is ready to attack all he needs is his hat. That is dressed enough to sink ships. :P lol
When you go fishing and suddenly realized you just fished up a cod...
Thank you sir for an outstanding presentation of the USS Cod. Very informative. Sure hope I can visit someday. Greetings from Iceland.
For a end of middle school trip we went to see the USS Cod and some aquarium near there it was really cool to be inside the cod and try not to hit my head on everything
Loved my visit to this awesome ship! I was a surface Sailor myself, much respect to those who care for this beautiful ship! Anchor Away!
Wish measurements weren't in metres; however, excellent. Great visitor attraction in Cleveland where USS Cod is permanently docked on North Coast Harbor.
As a Canadian, I'm fine with metres. I just find it offensive that they'd measure the diesels in horsepower, when everybody knows that diesels are all about TORQUE!
As a nuke submarine sailor I've always been in awe of the men of the ww2 submarines. Thanks for a wonderful video.
Now come on, I want to see a naval legends on the fish
This is the most amazing video I have seen on CZcams for a long time
Went to tour the Cod a few weeks ago. She's a beautiful boat and excellently maintained by Paul and his team. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.
Thank you to all the crews of the Cod and the good people of Cleveland ihope to visit the Cod one day.
I had a school trip from Dennison Ohio. It was a World War Two trip. This was a couple years ago now but I had the privilege come aboard this vessel.
This was an AWESOME video....very well done !....I've seen the Cod many times down near whats called "The Flats" area of Cleveland....Very close to Cleveland Browns Stadium.....She's a beauty !....Oh my mistake ....First Energy Stadium.
Just heard about the USS COD today, so I looked this video up.....love it. Will go and see it in person.
GENUSGADUS
Thx
Thanks
Np
thx
@krakatoa fax
What an honor it was for me to tour the USS Cod, you could reach out and touch dials and gauges that someone from WW II touched.
Everyone knows the true legend is that of the U.S.S. Codfish
Yeah, the Codfish sank 5 freighters and 15 aircraft carriers. Unfortunately they were sunk in 1954.
Three times at least
Nah m8 its albacore she sank taihou IJN aircraft carrier with one torpedo
Yh did nothing during the war lol. Sunk it's frist ship in 1950
Saw one in person, very small, but packed full of stuff! And still bigger than a U-boat
These vids are absolutely phenomenal. Thanks World of Warships.
I got to see the cod when i was on a work trip in 2022. Man, she was something to see but interestingly, the pajamas werent there when i visited i have the picture to prove it (though admittedly blurry)
They may have been removed for washing sometime in the last 20 years... more likely they were hidden under something.
Really well done video and a very fitting tribute to an outstanding and historic warship of the United States Navy.
Really missed watching these.
Another great video, thx for this history lesson
and this is 80 years old, amazing
That's only when it was finished and put together...this was in the making for many years before that. What's being machined today for sub production, won't be a finished product for about 20 years.
I love the naval legends videos keep em coming !
Just watched another series of vids showing Cod being removed from her berth and towed up to a dry dock for much needed repairs.
Years ago I worke on the same sort of GE diesels that Cod had. The ones I worked on had been modernised with massive turbochargers. At Full throttle a big flame would shoot out of the exhausts.
When I was Scoutmaster my scouts slept on the Silversides in Muskegon
My mothers boyfriend at the time was a sailor onboard the Dutch sub when the crew were rescued. I have a group photo of that party in Fremantle.
It seems to be in a great shape, like you can just turn it on and go sinking ships at any time.
30:40 love how the merchant ship just insta-stops due to the torp hit.
that's how that works right
In the 90's went to the RRHOF. Parked by the Cod not even aware it was there. Boarded her & absolutely was the highlight of the trip, will go back for the Cod not the "RRHOSHAME"!!!! THANKS CLEVELAND, the Cod is a fantastic piece of history. Great place to straighten out the kids, theyll love it!!!!
A: Sir, so you say you don't have cash for COD?
B: Sorry, I must have forgotten
A: No problem
B:
"Would you like that in Chum consistency, or little bits and pieces?"
A:
Well done boys. My dad served on the USS Shangri-La CV-38 during WW2.
My Father was on the U.S.S. Redfin Gato class sub 42/43 and the U.S.S. Wasp Essex Class Aircraft Carrier 43/45🇺🇸
COD before COD become famous.
I've been visiting this boat since I was old enough to walk so glad to see it get some recognition
What great history! Thank you.
Our pleasure! We are glad you enjoyed this episode and don't forget to check out the entire Naval Legends series on our channel!
Excellent video!
The Cod left Cleveland today being towed to Erie PA for servicing after 58 years. Will be back in August.
I visited 10 years ago. Would have been fun to have known the pajamas back story 😊
Very interesting...thank you Sir for your service
nice documentation
The Magnetic detonator worked properly, it just wasnt calibrated for equatorial latitude. New London CT where the Beuro of Ordinance for the submarine service is just above the 40th parallel, which has a tighter magnetic field as we get closer to the poles of the globe.
The other ignition problem encountered was the firing pin that was to travel accoss the axis of the torpedo. A right angle strike wouldn't detonate because of the inertial G force wouldn't allow the pin to travel upon impact. However a glancing angle strike there would be detonation. Ironically the fix was using the lightweight alloy from the propellers Japanese aircraft shot down at Pearl Harbor to fashion a lightweight version firing pin.
Excellent video.
I actually live in Ohio myself, good to know one of our more historic parts of the state is getting noticed!
I live in Ohio. I fixed it for you.
Great video. My community lost a citizen aboard the Wahoo; a memorial marker is located in the cemetery.
thank you for detail video
Now i want to eat cod while playing COD now
Great watch!
Anyone else notice the Buddha belly at 28:34?
WOW’s history videos are just fantastic!
Well since you already explain the artillery armament of submarines in the videos about submarines, I hope you do plan to introduce artillery armament for the submarines ingame too.
You should have these as a last ditch attempt at defending yourself as sub captain, having only one artillery gun of basically Destroyer caliber wouldn't be a real threat either, only when a target is about to die anyway.
I miss studying the Cod from Hornblower's while eating clam dip.
It's nice to see her in my home town getting Hall redone at the shipyard hear in Erie pa awesome document. I love history so dose my son
USS COD was SS-224, my father was radioman on USS SEACAT SS-399 which was one of 12 Subs that escorted the BB-63 Missouri into Tokyo Bay for the Surrender of the Japanese
GATO class, like a floating palace compared to the German TYPE VII.
THANKS for your SERVICE !!!
N CONTINUED SERVICE !!
What a TREASURE !!
❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼🖖🏼
What a technological marvel, beautiful ,gives me goose bumps
You guys should do USS Barb, incredible sub
Her sister ship the USS Croaker SS-246 is berthed in Buffalo,NY
Love it!
The COD was supposed to go into dry dock last fall, for an underwater survey/cleaning/repaint. Her last bottom inspection was back in the '60s. Yes, she is actually floating in Lake Erie... Anyway, she was supposed to be towed to Erie PA for the drydock, but the towing company backed out at the 11th hour. Now the COD is scheduled to be towed to Erie sometime this Spring (2021) for the underwater refurb..
She left this past Sunday to Erie pa , hitting a coast guard ship on the way out due to the tugs.
Check out the footage shot by a crew member during it. He posted several and gives an inside look at all the work done to her. Was a lot of work after sitting over 50 years. Awesome footage of her cutting a wake too.
Well done boys, well done!
Good video but WTF. There was no code show at the end when I had viewed it.
I just saw the USS cod today
You should do a video of the LST 325 in Evansville in that last operating LST in the world
I bet that sub taste good
Damn this is excellent.
Amazing to see the craftsmanship our forefathers were capable of some 80 years ago. And the heroes that actually went to war in those things, ...greater men than I !
Even longer before that. That's when it was all put together. But it would have taken many years of planning and building to get it to that point. I know they say what's currently being machined, won't be fully put together and in service for about 20 years.
Very good video
Cant wait to catch this fish
What I want to know is, where did they keep the ammo for the deck gun. I presume they didn't lug those 5 inch shells up a ladder from inside, that wouldn't be very efficient.
If I remember right there was often a storage compartment in the front part of the turret, accessible from the deck. So rather short ways for the ammunition.
Technology technology of this submarine is so cool
