What is the genre for this music?
This was almost a great song. Almost.
be interested in knowing this song's deeper story, the story of the song in the eyes of it's creator . . . unfortunately, i'm not good enough at understanding lyrics to be able to figure it out myself . . .
best i can come up with is that it's almost the theme track to an anti-hero and I feel it fits well with a character in a story i'm writing (not a novel, just something i'm writing for personal amusment)
basically, this character works for an anti-slavery task force except she keeps getting caught by the people she's trying to bring down because she's being sold out by her own superiors and eventually turns into a mercenary because she discovered it's easier to ignore the law and just walk in and shoot everybody . . . she's helping . . . right?
I may be wildly off the mark with what i believe the song's story is compared to the artist but that's the beauty of music . . . in my opinion . . . if you can't *feel* the music what good is it? not normally a fan of this type of asymmetric music but the soul of the song more than makes up for that. just goes to show what happens when the artist makes art. this is definitely art.

There's clearly a back and forth, and the message is to reject it. How does this message "Take no sides" relate to the core of the song:

One could interpret this to be a relationship where the main guy has idealized his partner, or put them upon a pedestal, thus he's unable to see the red flags, or believe any flaws about the partner.
Another interpretation is that he's a dreamer with strong convictions, but someone is telling him he's a fool, and the "till my heart has broken" for this interpretation could mean until he's been crushed in every possible way and there's nothing more he can do to carry through his convictions. And that is why he goes from wanting to save the people, like from systemic oppression of capitalism slowly pushing everyone into mental illness and homelessness, the same people who bought into the capitalism propaganda and defend it by telling him to wake up, to wanting them to all perish/hating them after he's been forced to give up any hope of making change? Could also be that "til your heart has been broken" is a metaphor for trauma and hardship, and when saying "you hear me I've spoken your eyes are still open you will not be woken till your heart has been broken", maybe he means they'll be unable to break away from their closed-minded thoughts based on which side they're on, until they actually go through hardship?
But the part that really throws me are these four lines:

I've always wondered what the lyrics of this song mean and the inspiration behind them. There is someone else who commented something similar to what i was thinking (except for the tangent about capitalism), but what do the lyrics really mean? The way i see it, it's about a girl who played around with boys who were interested in her, but she had no interest in them, hence the "For your own pride
You took ten lives" and "You will not be woken 'Til your heart has been broken" lines. I also see the chorus of the song (the "i will not be broken" part) as the response of her next partner, saying that he will not be her next victim. And then what's up with the "three minds" "three signs" lines? There's so much to this song which i haven't seen discussed. I'm really interested to get a line by line explanation if possible
Tangent about capitalism is from real life experience suffering from low wages and high inflation with a government that doesn't serve the peoples' interests, but instead serves the interests of the corporate donors. I get you don't understand it, because you haven't suffered as I have or seen someone else go through what I have, so you can't understand.
